Ranking EVERY Battle Course in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

While the mario kart series is known for it's racing mode, the other half of the franchise battle mode is also a ton of fun. In mario kart 8 deluxe there are 8 battle courses: Battle stadium, sweet sweet kingdom, dragon palace, lunar colony, wuhu town, luigi's mansion, battle course 1, and urchin underpass. There are also five different battle modes being balloon battle, renegade round-up, bob-omb blast, coin runners, and shine thief. However, some courses are better than others, so today I thought it would be fun to rank every battle course in mario kart 8 deluxe! But this isn't just one ranking, but 5, as I will be ranking evey battle course for every battle mode!

It will probably be Block Fort, Twilight House, Cookie Land, Chain Chomp Wheel, Battle Course 1 (GBA), and either the two Tour Battle Courses (but no) or Funky Stadium and Honeybee Hive. I did some analysis.

​@@daybroken2281 Is there at least a possibility of Block Fort, Chain Chomp Wheel/Roulette, Funky Stadium or Honeybee Hive/House based on datamines for Mario Kart Tour? I think GBA Battle Course 1 would never have a chance of coming due to its similarities to the SNES one. The only differences between Tour's GBA Battle Course 1 and 8 Deluxe's SNES Battle Course 1 are the roads on the side of the course with ramps. The visuals are slightly different, but that's expected.

The renegades can just use the glider ramps to fly to the cage and release everyone. Not to mention 1 super horn or star is a free path to the cage. Long story short, if you are the renegades in Battle Course 1, you win.

Lunar Colony got disrespected in Shine Thief, it heavily relies on the entire board instead of a few sections, the shine placement is okay, and the feather unlocks some pathways inaccessible to those who do not have it, which could be used to your advantage

My idea for new battle courses, this will double the current amount to 16, even out to have 8 for retro and nitros each and all 7 previous Mario Kart games will end up being represented. Nitro: - Hyrule Castle (Based on Hyrule Circuit) - Toy Room (Based on GBA Ribbon Road) - Nintendo Switch (Based on console battle courses from MKDS and MKDD) Retro: - N64 Double Deck - GBA Battle Course 2 - DS Twilight House - Wii Funky Stadium - Wii Block Plaza

My favorite battle courses have always been the ones that I like to call “the symmetrical layouts”, which more or less are the ones whose map silhouette is exactly that. Across the series, pretty much all of the SNES and GBA courses fit that distinction as well as a handful of other fan favorites like N64 Block Fort, DS Twilight House, and to a lesser extent Wii Funky Stadium. That’s not my only criteria obviously, but I enjoy when opposite ends of the stage don’t feel unbalanced in value, much like Lunar Colony doesn’t get right in Renegade Roundup. (also I wish I actually had more of a reason to play battle mode online I once got in a lobby with everyone but one person at around 1000 BR and the other dude was at 30,000, that seems like a problem)

Dragon Palace is a great battle course, when you're not driving around Dragon Driftway. You can go into the palace and battle it out! Plus, it's all-around.

Word of advice: Lure people into the narrow paths on Bob-Omb Blast Urchin Underpass and drop a Robbie on them the second their invincibility frames wear off. I consistently get 20-30 points a pop on higher difficulties.

since in the booster course pack, they've been adding everything, or at least give ideas to add everything(looking at the empty item spaces), but what if they added kart customizations from tour or other titles? i think a video about that would be interesting.

mk8dx really needs some more small battle courses. sweet sweet kingdom and snes battle course 1 are the only ones that feel chaotic, and they're the only ones that work when you have fewer than 12 players

In my opinion, Battle Course 1 is actually a great stage for Renegade Roundup. Since there's only one single cage in the middle, it's very easy to remember where it is, for both cops to guard and renegades to free. Whereas, large stages such as Luigi's Mansion and Dragon's Palace have multiple cages that are pretty hard to remember given the size of the stage, and might take longer to reach. Since BC1 is relatively small, it's a lot easier to get to the cage compared to larger stages, making it fair for both cops and renegades. As a cop, I find it a lot easier to catch renegades, and as a renegade, I find it easier to free fellow renegades. Probably the 2nd best for RR after Wuhu Town, at least in my opinion.

Honestly, I just like all of them. As for any new Battle Stages for the Booster Course Pass, I‘ll start with 8, Tour New York Minute and Paris Promenade B, N64 Block Fort, GBA Battle Course 4, GCN Pipe Plaza, DS Tart Top, and Wii Funky Stadium and Chain Chomp Wheel/Roulette, I think all of these should have a chance to return, and make sure to use the correct music this time Nintendo! I disagree a lot. The gamemod i play most is renegade. And i think that having the possibility of having several different tactics is fun and interesting. It's like a real battle where not just brute force matters. Lunar colony? You have to be more nimble to get a good shot, and certain items are better than others on this map, like bananashells which are hidden very easily by the bumps and can get u points without even attacking. Luigi's mansion? The top floor is one of my favorite as nobody comes to bother me, i hate to be stuck in chaos unable to move because im getting bombarded with items. However if someone does come up it is hard to avoid them and the only true way out is back to the dangerous chaos. Mario stadium? You have to choose if you go around the whole stadium, switching path every time, or staying in the same smaller circle. We have a technique with my boyfriend where we will guard the cages, why tak unnecessary risk chasing someone if we can win by being guards? Often it doesn't work since stars and even speed boosts can easily avoid us. But it is still a tactic like another. In sweet sweet kingdom i found i have one spot where i can constantly drift in a circle and access both cages very easily, which makes it my highest count of people saved. I don't hate it because while i can do that, i have to be super careful about surprises coming from the side i can't see, and can use my items to try and help my teammates too. The last circuit? Different tactics as well, we keep to the outside ring since less danger, and come to the rescue whenever all four of our teammates have been captured. Doesn't mean we dont get captured like this too.

WE NEED MORE BATTLE MAPS, but the series doesn't really have a lot that would work in 8. The battle courses need to work well with 12 players AND every battle mode. If I had to choose some I would pick: N64 Block Fort GBA Battle Course 4 GCN Pipe Plaza DS Twilight Wii Delfino Pier And if course, Wii Funky Stadium

I can only imagine they were just running out of time while making MK8 and they desperately needed to pour all development effort into the race mode, and that being why battle mode in MK8 is just the normal courses with minuscule alterations. I refuse to believe anyone consciously decided that reusing the race tracks from the base game would be better than using battle maps. Clearly it wasn’t a cost cutting thing either because they poured so much money and effort into making the rest of the game as detailed and polished as possible.

The only way i think coin runners is good is if i play mushrooms only. Its challenging to hit the opponent and steal the coins, but its not too outraging. And i get to play as the IRS so thats a plus but i agree its not a good battle mode
