Eyerock is one of the strangest bosses in the series, mostly because it’s an entity hiding in a void room accessed through a tube in a pyramid. I still like it though. Chill Bully is a bit underrated but could’ve been used a bit better. King Bob Omb and King Whomp are still the best for their iconic simplicity. The DS version had a lot of great bosses too.

I’d say the giant Piranha Plants are not bosses, because only one awards a star, not each of the five, and which one it is isn’t the same each time, it’s always the last one. So you can’t say that any individual plant holds a star, therefore, you can’t say that any individual plant is a boss.

Also using a obscure strategy to skip a semi fight is a design choice very common in modern games like odyssey and this seems like the pioneer of the philosophy. Eyerock is especially cool to me since I first found him in mario kart ds's mission mode as a kid, which in turn made me go back to mario 64 ds to find him in shifting sand land. It was a really cool moment back when I was playing ds games as a kid. It also helps that eyerock is a pretty fun boss fight.

Fun fact: on the first 2 bowser fights, if you suck at aiming it, you can just toss him off 3 times and he’ll go down. But on rainbowser, you don’t get that leeway. You *HAVE* to hit the bombs.

My favorites are Bowser in Koopa Clown Car (Super Mario World), Giant Baby Bowser (Yoshi's Island), Final Bowser (Super Mario Galaxy), Final Bowser (SM64/SM64DS), Castle Bowser, Giant Bowser (New Super Mario Bros Wii), Real Bowser (Super Mario 3D Land), Fury Bowser, and Dark Bowser (Mario&Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story). While my least favorites would be the Fake Bowsers from World 2 to World 7 in SMB1, Bowser in the Bathtub (Super Mario Sunshine), Giant Bowser (New Super Mario Bros. 2), Shrowser (pointless; Elder Princess Shroob is the proper final boss), Giant Baby & Adult Bowser (New Yoshi's Island), Baby Bowser (Yoshi's Story), and Mario's Time Machine NES. Also, while the music for Bowser's final phase in Galaxy 2 is epic, the fight is way too easy. As for Bowser/Mecha Bowser from Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, he/it is meh. Also, can I say MS-DOS Bowser from Mario is Missing is easily the worst Bowser sprite?

IMO, this game has many things that could be considered as bosses: Chain Chomp, Koopa the Quick, maybe Hoot, Unagi, the racer penguin, maybe Dorrie, Klepto, the mantaray, maybe the other penguin walking on the snowman, Ukiki, Koopa the Quick (again), and maybe the Lakitu on the floating ship.
