Trust me when I say Copperhead Strike is a MONSTER when running well. I know you've had your disappointing rides but the ejector you get on it when it's running well is crazy.

I have never had a bad ride on Copperhead Strike, its elements are of exceptional quantity, quality, and variety. If it is below 55 degrees out it provides a superior experience to Fury 325, if the first launch had more of a punch than my 2016 Nissan Leaf it would be a perfect coaster in my opinion.

This is my home park, so I’m always excited to see you do videos on it. I miss Thunder Road a lot, each side being on opposite sides of the border was such a cool gimmick. It was pretty rough towards the end, especially in the last run of hills, but it was always a walk on. It was my first real coaster and I must’ve marathoned it twenty times the week before it closed. I never got to ride it backwards, but I’ve heard a lot about it. My grandfather has a tshirt from its opening year somewhere.

I grew up as a local in Charlotte & we had season passes every year growing up & as teens. I’ve loved every coaster they’ve had, even if some have been janky rides 😂 i remember the gauntlet ride (not a coaster but, one of my faves,) the log flume, that is no longer there, they used to have a kids play place on the island that the riverboat floats/floated around, and the motion theatre ride was a huge deal when it came out!!! I also remember they had one of those parachute drops (much like bungee jumping i guess) anyway, three of us went & I had to pull the rip chord at 13, terrifying & exhilarating all at once, but never again 😂😂😂 Do they even still have that ride? I rode fury once though & I swear part of my soul is still up there in the sky 🤣 It was always such a fun place for us to go & to see all the coasters they have now just floors me! I will def be heading there this summer again! Great video & as a child of the 80’s & 90’s I remember most of these very fondly ❤ great vid!

I miss the old entrance with its classic southern charm that really fit the pre-cedar fair vibe of the place, and i miss thunder road... but other than that Carowinds has improved so much from a regional park when i was a kid growing up to NC to the destination it is now. What's amazing is how much better channels like yourself promote parks, than the parks do themselves. Maybe that's all apart of their grand plan. Parks really should start investing more into showing their history within the park, especially for the gp.

Just got back from my first visit to Carowinds (along with Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens Williamsburg) and had a great time. Rain was for real...shut the whole park down in the morning for about an hour and a half, but then opened back up to walk-ons on everything except Nighthawk. Living halfway between Kings Island and Cedar Point and seeing Carowinds compared to these parks, I was surprised at how top heavy it was, but, man, what a great top. I'm not going to dunk on a perfectly fun Orion, but, man, Fury 325 was what I wished it was. My 2nd was Copperhead Strike...rode it three times and had a big ol' smile at the exit each time. That hangtime and ejector had me locking my feet under the seat each time and my son, who rides everything, said the idea that he was about to be tossed out was one of the first legit scares he'd had on a coaster in a long time. Afterburn is a ton of fun but I think I preferred Alpengheist, even though it was less intense. And I had a blast on Intimidator but my kid said it was boring. He's spoiled by Diamondback, I guess. And I love Nighthawk and was happy to get to ride a flying coaster again. Although I doubt I would have enjoyed it, it's been a long time since I've ridden a B&M standup so the fact that Vortex wasn't running was disappointing, but that was maybe for the better. Hurler was really boring and riding rough and I cracked my head on the seat back so hard at the bottom of the first loop on Carolina Cyclone that it took away the enjoyment of what I otherwise think was a pretty enjoyable coaster, especially compared to Corkscrew. Amazing, though, how much more comfortable the seats were on the cars of Loch Ness Monster at BGW...no way to bang your head on the back of the seat on those! All in all, a really fun and well-run park.

@VtheG Well, I just got back from my trip and luckily remembered this comment. I think the park was fantastic. You can tell how well they take care of the park with the cleanliness, the atmosphere, and the quality of everything there. It reminded me of my first trip to Kings Dominion and made me a little sad that my home park is not a Cedar Fair park. We did sadly get rained out on BOTH of the days we were there, but we still got in two solid half-days and had a ton of fun. My thoughts on the rides: Fury 325: hands down best ride of the trip and my new #1 coaster Afterburn: the most positive surprise and my 2nd favorite of the trip Intimidator: even though it gets called InTRIMidator, I was surprised how hard those trims hit. Still a great ride, though. Copperhead Strike: I think I over hyped this ride in my head. It's still awesome, but I rank Intimidator slightly higher. Nighthawk: way better than I expected. I had heard from other sources thay this is one of the worst rides in the park, but I think it's the best thing after the top 4. Carolina Cyclone: another pleasant surprise. It was a smooth ride, and every element was very fun. Hurler: The first three hills after the turnaround had better airtime than I expected, but it was extremely rough.

The best part of growing up next to a park is that you can get all the kiddie credits with no shame. I can attest from firsthand experience that Taxi Jam was the greatest thing ever when you're three years old. Also Thunder Road was the roughest most uncomfortable thing I'd ridden by late 2014 ish. I remember actively preferring Hurler to Thunder Road; that's how bad it was.

i still feel like crying when I think about thunder road. it was my favorite coaster ever as a kid as it was the only intense one I was tall enough for, and even still on some days I’d be too short. I’ve always wished I could’ve ridden it when they ran the South Carolina side backwards. really just the perfect blueprint for a dueling coaster, right on the state line. god i miss her, i know she was at the end of her lifetime but rmc thunder road come ON. ugh. anyway maybe i’m just more sensitive to jankiness but hurler and cyclone MURDER me. hurler still fools me, i’ll think hey! it has no line! and then my heart is ripped out of my chest on those stupid shaky turns. and as someone who’s worn glasses since childhood that headbanging on cyclone was torturous. i say was because I haven’t ridden it since I was like 7 for that exact reason, and they did do a refurb a year or two ago so i’m not fully sure. I've been once and it was a good park. I'll have to go back to help solidify my opinions (and ride Kiddie Hawk and Ricochet) but my ranking at this point is: 11. Woodstock Express 10. Carolina Cyclone 9. Carolina Goldrusher 8. Vortex 7. Hurler 6. Flying Cobras 5. Nighthawk 4. Afterburn 3. Copperhead Strike 2. Intimidator 1. Fury 325 Carolina Cyclone was rough in the back, but maybe it's better in the front. Vortex was smooth up front, but it did have some headbanging thanks to the hard restraints. Hurler had decent speed and a good drop, but the rest was nothing. I'll have to ride again though. Flying Cobras was smooth in the back but rough up front; same with Nighthawk. Nighthawk was really good up front, and I ranked it above Superman Ultimate Flight. Afterburn was great but I'll have to reride now that I like intensity more. Copperhead Strike was running great and everything (except the launches) delivered. And yes the top 2 were awesome.

Carowinds is my home park, and yet I haven't been there since 2019 😓 its amazing tho and I love it so much! I just wish there was more intense roller coasters like after burn and fury. Intimidater isn't too intense except in the back rows, and copperhead strike is pretty intense but the launch doesn't even feel like a launch (back in 2019 I would have to ride in the mornings because every other time it was extremely filled so it might be better in the afternoons). Like i said I haven't been since 2019 but i've been to parks hours away from me in 2021-2023 like cedar point but i'm planning to go visit carowinds soon since it so close to me anyways 🤭 good video btw!

I’d rearrange the order of the top 4. For me it’s: 1. Fury 2. Copperhead Strike 3. Afterburn 4. Intimidator Fury being number 1 is an absolute given. I have never ridden a more perfect coaster and it is my favorite coaster as of right now. Copperhead is number 2 for me because of that sweet, sweet hangtime. That hangtime is glorious, especially on that Jojo roll coming out of the station. It also has brilliant air time moments spread throughout the layout as well. You can’t go wrong with this one. Afterburn is my favorite B&M invert. The forces on that ride are amazingly brutal and it whips you around the layout the entire ride. That batwing is gnarly. If only the restraints weren’t so small. As a big dude (6’3” 245lb) it often takes the operators a massive effort to get them locked in, of which I always get stapled in the process. It hurts the reride factor a little bit because I like breathing. I haven’t had this issue with any of the other inverts I’ve ridden either. Intimidator clocks in at 4. Those trims and that MCB handicap what should be an amazingly brilliant and wild ride. The floater air time is fantastic but every time you hit a trim, it throws you out of your zen on the ride, taking you out of your immersion. It’s still an excellent ride. I just wish they’d remove some of the trim brakes and that the train wouldn’t come to a near complete stop on the MCBR. Of the hypers I’ve ridden, it ranks second behind Goliath at SFOG. And it may fall further down when I hit up some of the hypers I haven’t ridden yet this summer.

As a Carowinds season passholder I agree with most of this list. I need to give Nighthawk another shake though. I went on it at Winterfest and it was rough as hell, I was told by another season passholder that the outer seats are the worst so I need to try it again. My only real change to the list is putting Afterburn over Intimidator. My reason being that Intimidator is a good ride, but it’s in the exact same park as Fury 325 and fury does everything intimidator does but better.

It’s the equivalent of a city like Oklahoma City that has one really tall building and the rest are only relatively tall, like 300 feet shorter.

My daughter and I were there last June. We didn’t ride any of the kid coasters, and Flying Cobras and Nighthawk were closed. That said, you’re mistaken as to Hurler being forceless. It has lots of force. Unfortunately, it’s the jackhammering of the train over tracks that the feel as though they had been there since the 70s, which is difficult for a coaster that has only been there since the 90s. My worst EVER. And your top three at Carowinds mirror mine, exactly. Copperhead Strike was a major disappointment and Afterburn was a welcome surprise. Oddly, I-305 at Kings Dominion was the consensus choice for best coaster of our vacation. Extremely forceful and the first time I’ve ever been near graying out. Even my wife thought it was incredible.

Carowinds desperately needs more re-rideable coasters despite the size of the lineup.

Hurler is the roughest wooden coaster I've ever ridden. And my home park is Frontier City that includes Wildcat.

Oh nice, my home park!! I kind of miss the paramount era of this park, and i'd say the cedar fair additions are hit and miss, but at the end of the day I'm glad the great unifier is disliking vortex.

Thank! I agree but think NIGHTHAWK should be top 3 (I think its gotten much smoother) All Carowinds needs now is one more 20 million dollar coaster... The new flat rides look so exciting Looking forward!

Carowinds or Dollywood? I’m booking a trip and I’ve never done a Giga. Dollywood from what I’ve heard is overall a better park. Not sure which one to pick. Nice vid

Dollywood is the better overall park. It has more character, better setting. Carowinds has more coasters. Carowinds has a great top 4. Dollywood is more balanced after Lightning Rod, although a few of the coasters are just good family coasters. Thunderhead is the second best coaster at Dollywood and it would be 5th for me at Carowinds.

For me, Copperhead Strike is # 2 in the park. I have Nighthawk slightly ahead of Afterburn for 4th. I kind of like Vortex. I would put it at # 10, counting the defunct coasters. I don't get headbanging, while Firebird gives me brutal, painful headbanging, so that makes me think Vortex would be worse as a floorless.

If Carowinds opened in 1973, that means this will be their 50th year in operation in 2023. Perhaps that could be the next park you make a documentary on because of that?
