Ranking Every Companion in the Mario RPGs

Hello everyone! Today I'm going to rank ever companion character in the paper Mario and Mario and Luigi series. I really hope you enjoy.

I feel like starlow in bowsers inside story was very different than in dream team and especially paper jam. In bowsers inside story she rips on Luigi but not nearly to the same extent. She also aids as a bridge between bowser and the bros as Chippy. Personally Chippy starlow is pretty fun, where as Starlow starlow is less fun. Sometimes I think she would be fun if she actually joined bowser as a minion. I mean she helps bowser while still insulting him, sometimes even when bowser is in the right like when he was slammed in a vault for several hours. She is mean enough to be flawed, while still not against helping or anything. Idk I liked her in bowsers inside story specifically

Yeah, her Chippy role is what I remember most about her, and I think she does it pretty well. Starlow in Bowser's Inside Story doesn't deserve the slander, but she got worse afterwards (especially Paper Jam).

Finally someone acknowledges Dreambert. Such a perfect mix between funny and serious. Only issue with him is that he never shuts the fuck up. Like holy shit, i already know how to jump and switch to luigi

i think you entirely missed the point of goombario he is supposed to be us, just some normal kid who is is a big fan of mario and his biggest dream is to go on an adventure thats why his design is simple, he is just a normal goomba, also i really like how his teeths are more round to reflect his innocence not every character needs to be stylish and flashy, some designs just work by being simple

There's nothing interesting or special about Stuffwell but he's at least not annoying or rude like Starlow so I think they implemented him pretty well. His only purpose is to give information and that's it, on the other hand Starlow gets a lot of dialogue and screen time that nobody cares about

Yeah, I was originally just going to do personality, but I thought that it would be too one note. So I added three other categories. But I agree, Olivia would be number 1 if I didn’t include gameplay. Also I got a new microphone, so the audio quality is going to be much better now.

Im so glad starlow is at the bottom. Like your telling me this so called star spirit. A representative of her ppl doesn't have a more reseved personality and have kindness. Honestly she was hating on Luigi the whole game as if he insulted her whole bloodline. I absolutely hated here she doesn't even belong on the list for how bad she is. Thats my rant

¡¡¡HOT TAKE WARNING!!! Although I'm not Starlow biggest fan, I think she is a bit overhated, here's my opinion about her: I think she is pretty fine as a character in Bowser Inside Story (except for the scene after the Shroobs fight, gosh) and she has an actual reason to be there. I like how she doesn't take the "partner" position in Dream Team because of Dreambert, instead she justs sits there with the other returning characters from previous games like Broque Monseiour; I only hate her in Paper Jam because she is very mean to my boi, Luigi. :( I like the simplicity of her design and I think she is kinda cute (Same thing can be applied for Goombario) We also should admit that her interactions with Bowser as "Chippy" are pretty funny though. You also forgot mentioning her appearence in the side stories, appearing in Bowser's Minions as a cameo at the Gwarhar Laggon's Cutie Battle Contest as one of the contestants and also you can recruit her as a unit in the post-game, although her appearence as a unit isn't canon. And she appears in Bowser Jr.' s Journey in a cutscene at Bubble Lake having an encounter with Bowser Jr. (I find really funny that Bowser Jr. talks to Starlow with the same nicknames as you.)

I’ve admittedly only played Bowser’s Inside Story as far as Starlow is concerned, but I generally quite like her. I’d also say she’s not really useless, as she acts as the bridge between Mario & Luigi and Bowser and I believe it’s somewhat handwaved that the reason Bowser keeps arbitrarily starting and stopping say, drinking water or breathing icy air is Starlow’s direction.

The reason she is in last place is because she can’t do anything gameplay wise exempt for carrying the bros out of the way of the screen wipe attacks. And I guess telling bowser to start and stop drinking, but she has no connection to any stories of the game she is, but is the only one that gets to be reused 3 times. But even still I respect your opinion, and recommend you try out some of the other games in these series, some are pretty great!

Respectfully, and I mean this with the geninue hope you can improve, it's really hard to hear or even understand you at times since the BG music is too loud. I can forgive the poor mic quality because y'know everyone starts from somewhere and mics are expensive, but I have audio processing disorder and 1 minute in I realized there was no way I was gonna be able to understand you and be able to listen to you for the whole video because of the poor audio balancing. In future videos, I'd suggest fixing the audio balancing. I understand that you're a new channel but if you want to improve and keep viewer retention you're gonna have to fix this. From what I was able to hear though, you seem like you're able to scriptwrite and read off said script well. It's just the audio seems to need work. Heres to hopes you improve you definitely got potential.

Okay, yeah, no, I couldn't finish this video thanks to a myriad of problems: Bad audio balancing: There are a lot of times were it is hard to hear you over the game's audio. Overly negative and pessimist: You literally don't stop throwing insults at the characters or the game, even as high as the number 4 spot (and you were saying that Starlow was too much). Not understanding the game you criticize: The scene at the end of Super Paper Mario is symbolical to represent that they both are now in a better place.

For what it’s worth, I think Kersti gets way too much. And that’s mostly because she realizes that she kinda forced Mario into helping her and she apologized for it, and she still SOME gratitude to Mario for saving her from the scuttle bugs. A lot of people tend to forget that which is really the reason I bring it up at all. And by that logic she’s not a bad companion in my opinion, she’s just mid. I’d also argue that the whole story of Super Paper Mario revolved around Tippi, Count Bleck’s whole motivation and the reason why Mario was called upon in the first place was because they cared about her (amongst others). So calling her significance in the story tenuous completely misses the point. And the only thing she sacrificed was a chance to stay with Mario, but I still enjoyed the video👍.

You even admitted that Dreambert played really well off of her (although yeah i think it’s possible for dream team to be well written even without her) and honestly no good sidekick probably could’ve saved Paper Jam’s sorry state anyways. Like, I’m really only insinuating to put her above kersti, and like… **arguably** stuffwell even if i do kind of like him more conceptually? Cuz even as someone that only played PiT, BiS, SPM, and DT, i can certainly say everyone else is just better

I see where you are coming from. Kersti’s relevance to the plot, that fact that I only have to deal with her in 1 game, and here gameplay mechanics make her better than Starlow, but her annoying mess puts her below stuffwell. Kersti and Stufwell are bad characters yes, but they are only in 1 game in their series. Starlow is the main focus in 3/5 of her series games. That’s more than half!

I just want to point out that Starlow was appointed to help with the meeting about the blorbs in Bowser's inside story and that was her reasoning for helping the bros out in that game. It seems like she's just kind of stuck around and become part of the M&L cast and gotten worse with each game. But I'd still take her insulting Luigi over and over again before I'd let that sticker anywhere away from bottom place when she is supposed to be your hint system but won't give you hints unless you have already found the item that solves the puzzle. You could be at a brick wall that needs to be blown down and she'll just be like. "Man I sure wish this wall wasn't here." instead of suggesting "If only we had something to knock this wall down, maybe we can use a thing sticker here."

I do agree that she has a bad hint system. Unlike Starlow though, Kersti actually introduces the Battle Spinner and Paperize Techniques, which even though they both suck, they are still unique concepts and mechanics that Kersti brings to the table. Starlow brings nothing to the table and is reused in 3/5 of her entire series.

@@TheOrigamiAnalysis the battle spinner has bad mechanics in it as well. Like wasting any stickers you put into it if you kill all the enemies before using it. The battle spinner actively makes some fights worse like the final Kamel fight where you have to match all 3 on the spinner or the battle is impossible to win. The battle spinner also does nothing for normal battles because you can just run away and it defeats the enemy anyways. There's also the battle spinner not meshing well with the puzzle bosses where it can mess up the timing you need to use stickers because you even though you used the right thing sticker you put it out of order and now it's wasted and you lost the solution to an unwinnable battle without it.

Hot take I find Olivia annoying as shit, and Olivia’s “sacrifice” was kind of pointless. She could’ve just excluded herself from being unfolded. Also I find goombella more of an interesting character then Olivia, but I do agree depending on who you’re asking Olivia might be more likable. Judging by your criteria Olivia does deserve to be higher than goombella. I mean she helps the entire story like goombella but goombella is competing with 5-6 other partners while you’re for the most part stuck with Olivia the whole time. Olivia does have more story significance unlike goombella, and Olivia is overall more original design the goombella, and you use Olivia more in combat overall the goombella, but I prefer goombella and goombario over Olivia. But that’s my opinion Like it’s kind of unfair comparison origami king was written with Olivia as a main character with combat and story keeping her in mind unlike goombella, she does have flavor text but ttyd isnt written around goombella where it is for Olivia.
