One thing I like about Kai as a villain is compared to Tai lung and Shen he actually respects Po, he’s the only one that basically doesn’t go “really, a panda is the dragon warrior?”
@heyitsmira1710 ай бұрын
Because he knows what pandas can do. He is a master of Chi who learned that from pandas themselves, ofc he respects Po. I'd say Shen kinda does too, or else he wouldn't murder most pandas in fear of being defeated

Personally I loved Humpty's character arc. The entire movie he talks about how he doesn't belong anywhere and how he's not a "person, bird, or even food". And when the one person who treated him like family cuts him out, he wanted revenge. He has a desire, fear, and misbelief. And in the end he gets to be exactly where he belongs. At the same time it's like a Count of Monte Cristo story.

@@finalmountain Daanngg!! I really like your points! No harm done though😅 He certainly doesn't make a good villain haha😗
@nielslehnen607610 ай бұрын
@@finalmountain it gotta be said you completely missed the point behind Humpty's motivation and actions. He didn't "betray" Puss because he didn't want to stop stealing or because they needed to steal to find the golden goose. He betrayed puss because he felt betrayed after puss became the hero of the town and at that point hardly cared about finding the golden goose anymore. It was as if he lost the only friend he ever had and if you like the movie with the dumb bears (excuse my venting I still like that movie I just think its overpraised) you would understand that its COMPLETELY within Puss's character to let fame go to his head and stop caring about what truly matters, further justifying Humpty's actions despite obviously still being very villainous indeed. Makes it so that the audience can somewhat sympathize with him. Not saying he's an amazing villain but he's at least better than some others that were placed above him for me

The argument he has with his father at the climax of the film always gives me chills.

Same thing that happened to that poor Gronckle. Stoick doesn’t *know* that, and he doesn’t *care* to know. That’s what makes it so amazing, he’s arrogant and doesn’t believe anything else is at play beyond “they’re evil monsters”. I'd argue that Charming's plot actually fits his character quite well. He's completely deluded himself into believing that's he's the storybook hero (no doubt his mother's influence) and at the start of Shrek the 3rd, he's seen putting on an awful play with himself as the star where he finally kills Shrek and gets the princess. In his mind, this is how the story should end, because his vanity and pride accepts nothing less. He's very dramatic (befitting his warped hero complex), so when he captures Shrek and forces the people of Far Far Away to watch the play he wrote, it's less about the play itself and more for his own ego, where he finally proves to the kingdom that he's the real hero by rewritting the story. He doesn't care that Shrek didn't want to be king (Charming had no claim to the throne anyway, so he couldn't take over without a coup), he doesn't care that the people don't like him. In his mind, he MUST be the hero, Shrek MUST be the villain (because he "stole" the kingdom from him, as well as his mother during the events of Shrek 2). The hero must always win. But Charming was too deluded to see where he truly stood in the cast, and that's exactly what happened. I will concede that his story itself wasn't the best. Villains who only show up at the end of the story have to be either powerful or terrifying while being hyped up by the story itself, and Charming was neither. A villain like Charming needs to have a greater impact in the story itself to make up for that.

I disagree. Pitch is a cop-out in the books, reduced to nothing but a 1 dimensional villain with a "backstory" and a character about as deep as a kiddie pool. He's better the in the movie because you don't get the excuse of "he's evil because of fearlings and if he were Kozmotis again, he'd just be back to good". His whole arc is also a cop-out. I prefer him so much more in the movie, because at least there he is open to changing in more human ways than just by killing and/or un-possessing him.

I still have to disagree in this discussion, if a so called force of nature enjoys the fear of his victims and only stops when they are done it's certainly a villian no matter if the goal was to stop him from wasting his lives which in first place it shouldn't even be his problem

You have a point when it comes to Fairy Godmother but really 1 &3 should have swapped places mostly because in the case of the Last Wish at least they always quickly or gradually paid it off by the visuals. Not only that but also the fact that for the first time Puss actually bled after saying he had never been touched by a blade and the slowmo used throughout was outstanding.

I will defend World Tour to my grave. The first Trolls movie sucks. World Tour is so fucking good though and I love the way it handles race and culture. Especially because Barb and Poppy reflect each other really well. Barb wanted to unite everyone under Rock and Poppy wanted to unite everyone but didn't stop to consider the way people are different and want to keep their differences. Instead of going "Poppy is so right! Everyone is the same so we should all get along! Hugs and Kisses!" It goes "To properly unite and accept one another we have to see our differences and not try to erase them." Especially since it uses the Pop Trolls as colonizers, given that pop music is typically the music industry's go-to "make everyone the same whatever" genre.

Ramses is the best villain imo, easy S tier. Pitch Black is A tier, he foils Jack Frost perfectly. Kai is low S tier or high A tier, he is connected to Oogway and Po and the concept of chi in general, being the reason pandas lost that ability, also having a lot of character and tied things together, being both strong like Tai Lung and genius like Shen, being tragic and evil etc.

One of the reasons I absolutely love Rameses as a villain is because he feels so human. He has what most (or all) Disney movies lack: a corruption arc. We want Rameses to be better, because we know he had been better in his past. We want him to fix his relationship with Moses. He doesn't start as a villain and I LOVE that. Yeah, Fairy Godmother is hysterically funny, ambitious and machiavellic, but as an antagonist, as you said, he's the most complete. Prince of Egypt is underrated, man.
