I would even argue that Remake and Rebirth are significantly better.

With XVI and (what I presume) is Ultima’s 'repetitive' dialogue with how he speaks to Clive, it makes sense when you think about it as he doesn't see Clive as real or as having actual free will and therefore worthy of exchanging more than the required information. He's what I imagined Jenova to always be like, and imo it's nice to just have a big bad that's simple and straight forward in their goal for once rather than the rinse and repeat "tragic in depth backstory", as that went more to the sub-villain of Barnabas

I know they've focused on making more solo adventures but I'd be paying a monthly subscription to play one or two hours a week a lot of times. I absolutely adore X-2. Honestly, if you take X-2s battle system and give it its own standalone story, I feel it would've been almost perfect. The ONLY part that bothers me is that it's a bit of a nonsensical sequel to a game that didn't need it.

*puts on ffxiv salesman cap* If the lack of an ending is what's stopping you from trying FF14, then now or later is actually a really great time to try it since the current expansion, Endwalker, was written to be an ending for the plot arc that had been going on for a decade. You could definitely stop at the end of 6.0 and have experienced a complete story with a satisfying resolution. And while there is another expansion coming out, the developers have said it's going to be the start of a new plotline, making it basically the equivalent of FF14-2. As for the beginning being rough, I'd say it's less that it's bad, and more that it's slow. While the plot takes its time in getting rolling, it spends that time introducing you to the overall world in a way that I genuinely enjoyed, and that familiarity with the world really pays off in the latter parts when the story grows from "slow but has promise" to "top 10 stories I've ever experienced". They've also built in a lot of solo play options so forced multiplayer interactions are pretty limited (which I know is a barrier for a lot of people in starting mmos, myself included). I totally get what you're saying about mmos just not being your cup of tea though, so definitely no pressure!

I really appreciate this comment! Especially because I do feel like a lot of the community for FFXIV is really good about being understanding about people being hesitant about playing it. I haven’t really seen anyone give me a hard time about my hesitancy towards the game. I also want to make it clear that I don’t doubt that it’s an amazing game. I think my concern is very personal because I know that it’s a game that requires a lot of time, and I don’t really have a lot of time to play games like I used to. I’m struggling to play through Mario RPG actually, but I’m getting through it!

I won't sugar coat it. I'm 300 hours in and am about halfway through endwalker. So I totally understand the time commitment. HOWEVER, if you do ever find yourself craving a fresh final fantasy story with some amazing characters, top-notch story writing, and heartstring pulling scenes, definitely give it a whirl. Definitely has cought me off guard how much I've grown to love ff14s story.

As someone who agrees with your top 6 (X-VI-IX-VIII-VII-XV is the order I’d put ‘em all S with 15-12-16 being my As) as linear as 13 is, 12 is the opposite (certainly so for a modern FF game). The gameplay is fantastic and the story like 15 just needle a little more time to finish as it is really good but there’s just so much time spent in the 2nd half where the story is paused until it gets a very satisfactory conclusion at the end) Based on what you liked and why you liked it I’d predict XII gets at least an A tier. Also if you’ve never tried Final Fantasy Tactics you definitely should as the only reason it’s not considered a mainline game IMO is because it wasn’t assigned a number. It’s got a phenomenal story and great gameplay and like XII is set in Ivalice

I don't get why people dog on FF15 all the time. It's not that bad of a game. I enjoyed it, but agree that it felt incomplete. There was a huge world with not a lot to do other than be pretty. Personally, I felt the story of 15 could've been better towards the 2nd half, but it still worked overall. FF15 is not that bad of a game.

7 is a good game but I have it 5th or 6th in the franchise depending on if you're counting tactics. It's a good game that imo has been highly overrated because of the marketing blitz and r34.

Those are the same words I hear from folks about FF7. Blinded by nostalgia and bias and can't see the game is in no way the absolute best in the series with the likes of FF6, FF9 and FF10. My first FF game was FF Mystic Quest and FF4 but I do not place them on high on the tier list. FF4 is an A rank while Mystic is a C.

The mmo criticism about "no end in sight" is a totally legitimate one. I was subbed to FF11 since launch and stopped playing in 2017 along with FF14. They are both great games (11 was stellar in its heyday) but they are a trap. They keep you there for life which stops you from playing 100's of other great single player games

Main villain in FF9, without spoiling too much, but I feel like in some ways he was like main villain in FF7, in terms of what they wanted to do and a bit of the motivation etc, but things just played out differently in the end for him. I really do think they wanted to try that for a change. FF9 is so interesting in terms of story telling. At first it captures you with the world building and getting to know the characters, and it does such a great job at it too. As you progress in the game, you get to see the characters experience things, and it changes and develops them, while the story takes you on a trip around the world. Near the end and the end, you get all the super strong final developments of the characters, you learn to see some in a different light (which in some cases makes for interesting replay value), while others becomes a more mature themselves. The game's focus on exploration is great too, I feel like that goes missing with FF10 and later. The music sets the world. Yeah, I could go on, my favorite too. :)

I agree!! In fact I actually prefer FF2s backward Leveling system since there's no level cap meaning every stat can be maxed out if you put the time and effort in to maxing them out!! People try saying "it's too time consuming" but I'd argue FF10s Sphere Grid system!! While FF10 is one of my favorites I do gotta admit the Leveling system in that game and the fact that it has 7 total characters to max out stats with and the "breaking stat limits" makes it arguably one of the most time consuming, if not the most time consuming game of the series just for the sake of maxing out all stats, and that's not even mentioning all the Aeons which adds an additional 10 plus once Yunas stats are maxed (regular stats not the break limit boosters) their stats stop growing meaning you have to add additional Attributes too them in order to Max them out which probably takes just as long if not longer then the Sphere Grid!! I remember putting in like 600 hours on FF10 only to Max out every character and 1 Aeon, and it was still incomplete because the HP didn't reach 99,999 and the MP didn't reach 9999!! To clear things up I personally like FF10 more then FF2 put people complain about FF2s Leveling system and ignore FF10s plus grinding in any FF game in general is very time consuming especially if you're tryna Max out levels/stats!!

I highly recommend trying out ffxiv sometime. The story is a masterpiece. And it’s as long and short as you want to make it. You could play all the way to endwalker since endwalker basically acts like an “avengers endgame” in which it concludes 10 years of stories. Sure there’s more story after but you could technically stop at endwalker if you wanted.

May favorites will be forever Final Fantasy II U.S. and Final Fantasy Legend II, both games appeared basicly on the same time, too during the start of the 90ies. Of course its in truth Final Fantasy IV and Sa-Ga II. Both games are quite different to each other, but feel like they are just desinged for me, no matter if its art, music, characers, world building, story and even combat. The other games on your S tier, are among the best and they are much bigger games than my humble favorites, but they have this special something that goes beyond nostalgica and i can replay them countless times and still do not get sick of them.

The segment on 14. I'm going to tell you! "Slap!" HUSH UP, I was the same way! Go play 14! It is the best FF Story in years! Free Trail up to end of Stormblood at max level of 70! You got money for a fast food meal or grub hub or Starbucks coffee ( or whatever ), you can lightly on and off sub with breaks when the trail is done.

Thank you for being fair to XIII. As someone who has adored the game since Day 1, I've seen all the hate its gotten over the years, and caught a bunch of strays for daring to enjoy it. Whenever I see these sorts of videos, I pop in out of a morbid curiosity, and am frequently disappointed by how harshly one of my favourite games is treated. Even though you didn't find it fun, I appreciate that you were still respectful when talking about it. As for XIV, as someone who just finished Heavensward, it really does take a LOT of time to get through. A Realm Reborn is a serious slog, and while the world-building does pay off the more you play the game, I find it really difficult to recommend the game for the story alone. I ended up really enjoying the gameplay, especially as someone who has never played an MMO before, but that REALLY had to pull a lot of the weight through the first 40ish hours of the story. Based on what you've already said about it, despite how much I loved Heavensward in the end, and how excited I am to continue the story, I really can't recommend it to you, personally.

I really appreciate comments like this! I will never talk down to anyone that has a difference of opinion, in terms of a Final Fantasy, because I think it’s exciting that everyone has a different favorite, and that everyone dislikes a different one. However, I do think that it’s important to remain respectful to others opinions on other games within the franchise. While I didn’t love, XIII, I completely understand why others enjoy it! And thank you for that explanation on XIV. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Heavensward. I do think there might be a day in my life, maybe 5 to 10 years down the road, where I give it a chance, and I could fully appreciate it. However, while I don’t doubt that the fans passion for XIV are valid, and that’s it’s probably an amazing game, it’s just really hard for me to fathom putting that much time into it at this point in my life. Maybe someday, I’m open to giving it a try, but not anytime soon. Again, thank you for having this sort of discussion with me! I’m glad that you stuck around that far into the video.

I feel the same way as you do about its many sequels, prequel, spin-off's and so on tho I'm not still too sure how I feel about Genesis. I don't dislike or like the guy I'm just indifferent to him and how his plight was in the story. You did kick me at FF8 being over FF4 then again FF15 over FF4 again tho I do agree they should of delayed it a year to fix the shiet instead of getting the game rushed out the door then asking what we wanted to see next instead of just finish fixing the damn game first even when they knew the game was selling well...

You should treat A Realm Reborn-Heavensward-Stormblood-Shadowbringers-Endwalker as the Final Fantasy XIV-I and anything that will come after the new expansion,Dawntrail,as FF XIV-II. The first story ENDS with Endwalker!

As to your rankings I was expecting you to put XVI waaaaaay higher in the tier list for some reason, but I get why you couldn't like it. Personally I loved it, but i do agree that it's a flawed experience in so many ways, especially the sheer amount of boring, uninstering, side quests that bog the pacing of the game to a halt. The completionist in me had to finish everything but maaaan did they suck ass

Opinions and tastes are obviously always subjective, and i'm one of the misfit weirdos who actually like FF2 and loves how customizable it gets while appreciating that they were coming up with a full story for the first time. That said, i feel that FF4 is as overrated as FF5 is underrated. I totally get the story argument, that FF5's story is generic and straightforward, but i feel that if we look at FF4's story closely, it isn't much deeper, as the internet makes it out to be. I feel like FF5's story is unapologetically generic but they own that, and execute it very well, whereas the story of FF4 is still pretty generic but it keeps trying to convince the player that it isn't through constant predictable and forced plot twists, all the fake deaths (at least all the self-sacrifices in FF2 actually meant something), pretty standard tropes, and fairly consistent self-retconing, especially regarding those fake deaths, *spoiler comment below*. Despite 6 and 7 being my favorites and enjoying gritty stories done right, i actually enjoyed the simple story of 5 more than the forced twists of 4. On top of that, the gameplay of 5 is stellar and always fun, with tons of replay value, whereas the gameplay of 4 gets monotonous pretty quickly. I personally feel like the customization potential of the less-popular 2 and 3 make battles actually fun and provide something to look forward to, whereas the focus on story of 4 and lack of emphasis on gameplay make the battles be more of a hurdle. Character progressions are pretty locked and you can't really change your party around to mix things up. Hell, even leveling up doesn't matter much cause characters will leave and come back often. I feel that if Edward stuck around more and could do more of what bards can do in 3 and 5, people would like him more (i did enjoy his support abilities on versions that actually included them, unlike the US SNES version). By the way, i still enjoyed FF4 and its story and i love the characters for who they are, but i feel that the internet has been way too praisy of it while overly hating on 2 and 8 and sometimes ignoring 5. Interestingly, realizing at its ending that FF4 is at heart still a cutesy "heroes save the world" story, especially with everyone waving "BYE BYE" and being silly, made me enjoy it more for what it actually is, than for what it pretends to be. By the way, props for giving a good case for 8, which is also one of my favorites! (*SPOILER ALERT: how can the Mysidian elder randomly save Porom and Palom if they had turned themselves to stone by their own volition? Why could Tellah not save them then? Same kind of questioning could be said about many aspects of every other fake death...). Spoilery side note: i totally respect not enjoying ExDeath as a generic tree villain, but i don't feel like Zeromus is much different, or that either are much different from Garland anyway. They are all the embodiment of evil made flesh (or bark i guess), and that's fine :)

Bro can play thru 10 and 13 but says that he cant justify playiing 14 due to the timesink lol. 14 isnt really that long for a jrpg lmao. If you think its long its because you are mistaken. Its not like you are a streamer that takes years to play 14 because reading out loud takes a long time. A normal person reading dialogue can finish 14 up till endwalker in like 2 months. Hell you can finish heavensward/stormblood under a week. 14 is unique in that all story content battles are super easy and dont require grinding like the other numbered titles... That itself is a huge time saver.

I go with the other obvious choice with VII being the best. But most people don’t take my list seriously when I put VI in the B tier. The first 40% was great but fell apart for me around the Strago/Relm section and even more so during the WoR. Also to further invalidate my list I throw VIII in S(first FF). XVI is tough. I enjoyed Clive and Cid. I liked the hideaway and the change to dark medevil fantasy. The story was a disappointment in what I perceived it to be. I thought it was going to be a personal journey and it ended going the route of the cliched standard jrpg trope. The characters and villains of the beginning were fascinating and fell off midway. I honestly lost interest after Hugo. Battle system, mixed bag. I’m not a fan of the DMC esque system but enjoyed the regular boss fights with Clive but hated the regular fights and eikon fights. They were spectacular set pieces but they went on forever. Despite this I feel it was the best since X. I’ll give it another shot one day.

"Breaking" FF8 isn't an argument imo. I just levelled to 99 in FF8 and it was still easy. Plus nobody is forced to abuse it. It's a choice, just like when people complain about auto battle in FF13 (which is optional)

Also the "keyword" system being complained about in FF2 in my honest opinion is still just nit picking meaning people are still tryna find things to complain about when it's really not that serious!! It's no different from FF1s trade quest which still requires you to interact with NPCs!! Even FF9 brings the Keyword System back briefly when asking about the special potions!! Plus if I can recall correctly FF3 and FF4 both have this "key item" thing which brings up your list of items and you still have to choose the right one or nothing happens!! To me all that is no different from the Keyword System in FF2 as all it requires is you(the player) to talk to other NPCs!!!

9 is overrated. I’ve only played through it twice and it bored me both times. 7 and 8 are much more memorable.

I would create an F tier just for FF2. I like u tried to play this game again, and it's the only entry i just can't bring myself to play again. XV at A is a wild, different take. I hate that game more than I'll ever hate 13 or 8. I'd put 15 on low C

I'm always shocked when I hear anyone liked FFXV, it's actually the only one in the whole series that I did not finish, About 20 hours played and just determined it wasn't going to get any better and the combat was just beyond bad. FF16 I had the same complaint that there's was no challenge and the fights are so scripted that I felt like I literally could not die if I wanted to. The game felt more like a movie than a game, my input wasn't important.

FFXVI was such a let down. Does not feel like Final Fantasy at all. It’s like it was originally a basic dark fantasy action rpg and then they decided to give things random names from FF universum.

Dont play X-2. Just dont. It will spoil what FFX was. FFX-2 shat all over the story that made FFX great. It hurts even more to learn that FFX-2 couldve been a prequel with Braska, Auron and Jecht, but the idea of 3 guys as main protagonists wasnt "progressive enough". Instead we got the 3 k pop girls and a meaningless story

@@AgentArcadia im mad about them taking FFX and turning it into that. And to shit on everything even more they included Shinra and said ffx and ff7 are canonically connected. And for the final blow they released some novels or drama and some shit where yuna and tidus break up and sin comes back somehow, as to say "lol ffx didnt even matter, sin is back and they didnt end up being together haha". They shouldve just left ffx alone, not piss on everything
