In order to get access to other classes/jobs, you need to obtain their specific dressphere (Lady Luck is infuriating, because you need to win the Sphere Break Tournament in Chapter 3) and equip it onto your Garment Grid. Depending on your grid setup (and which grid you have), you can Spherechange in battle to another equipped class. 17:38 "This should not have been a trilogy." - Rumor has it, FF13 wasn't supposed to be. They had to break up the games because of the limitations of the Xbox 360. The PS3, using Blu-ray disks, had plenty of space. It's either that, or FF13 was probably just going to be longer with better pacing. I feel like for me to have a "proper opinion" on the game i'd need more experience with it. But he did say 5 was really grindy. I only really needed to grind in 3 for my first two playthroughs and then afterwards, some good strategies and utilizing items properly allowed me to kill a lot of enemies and bosses fairly easily (for reference, every playthrough was a "all bosses" playthrough aside from iron giant. And I was playing the version on the ds). If he's right and 5 is a grindy game, then 5 probably isn't a complete improvement to 3. It also probably helped that 3 has had a 3d remake

Ian-Devon Lewis i mean how was it a small world? There was so much lore in it, so many things to do. You’re talking about how small a world it was but name three other worlds, not including ff11 and ff14, that were bigger. If you don’t like it for other reasons than that’s okay. Ian-Devon Lewis so you’re saying that games that literally could not have more due to hardware limitations have more than ffx? That makes sense. I don't even think the linear leveldesign is that bad tbh. I mostly play JRPGs for the story, characters and gameplay and as long as the world doesn't Interrupt with those I'm fine with it, especially since more niche JRPGs have the same leveldesign (guess I'm used to it). @@superlombax1561 I'm just saying, "but it's an MMO" is kind of a lame criticism when one of your "top" games on the list was also an MMO. FF14's writing is incredibly spotty with decent side quests being so rare as to be notable and 2 out of 4 main story questlines being pretty widely disliked. And Shadowbringers isn't even good, it's just crowd-pleasing melodrama. A lot of the characters do shit that makes absolutely no sense, in service of appearing mysterious and conflicted up until you have a big fight and then they cry. FF11 on the other hand, had pretty consistently great writing. Like, compare Prishe and Emet-Selch: Both are immortal sociopaths who try to do some good to rekindle their sense of empathy toward the mortal, but then ultimately decide they're tired and would rather just die. Except Emet acts like a Saturday morning cartoon 90% of the time, does a big villain thing and then has a moment of sympathy before getting killed off forever. Prishe is a believable character who hides her motivations and intentions and then, crucially, sticks around after fucking you over and comes to realize how shitty what she did was and develops as a character as she confronts the shame she feels as a result. This is probably way too fucking long for a youtube comment so in short, FF14's writing is generally bad and the problem is this: the supporting cast are one-note and the antagonists are just antitheses to the player that you punch until they say goodbye forever without having ever meaningfully explored the problem with their motivations beyond "killing is bad".

A lot of the FF games are linear. FF7, 8 and 9 are pretty linear if you think about it. 10 was exceptionally linear. The only reason people complain about 13 is because there were no sidequests or opportunities for slight deviation. In 7 you had Fort Condor, the Gold Saucer, and the occasional sidequest like Gongaga or the Yuffie/Vincent sidequests, in 8 you had Card Games, the occasional sidequest and the incentive to grind for GF abilities, and 9 had the occasional sidequest and the Chocobo Mini Game before you got the Blue Narciss. 10 was linear but you could backtrack and play Blitzball, but 13 had none of that. 13 level capped you, had no sidequests like cards, and very little deviation on the map. That being said, I still have a favourable opinion of FF13. I'd place it in the middle of the pack, maybe on the higher end. It was a great game, just not amazing like 7-10 and 12 (IMO). The linearity really didn't bother me that much.
@rogthepirate45934 жыл бұрын
Most FFs are linear, even X, yes. But XIII, for about 80% of the game, is LITERALLY a straight, narrow fucking hallway with at most the occasional side hallway that ends in a chest, and nothing else. Linearity in the game's overall design is one thing, but XIII is extremely linear in actual level design too, to a much higher degree than ANY previosu FF. I mean, look at the minimap to see what I mean, most of the time it's quite literally a narrow tube. Much of the game consists of pushing the stick forward and pressing X occasionally, even in battle. It had the potential to be so much more than that, but they wasted it almost completely.
@anthonydelfino61714 жыл бұрын
10 definitely was a hallway, but it gave you the illusion of being able to explore in a way that 13 didn't. You had the option (and requirement if you wanted unlock the monster arena) of going back to areas you'd already visited. In 13, once you left an area, it was gone for ever. Also 10 masks its linearity with little side branching quests that show you how you go off the main road to do a thing then go back onto it. Operation Mi'ihen for example is a side path off the Mushroom Rock Highroad.

A few objections on the ones I've played. FF II: Battle system can be exploited. The story however is excellent. Should be a C tier. Crisis Core: Overrated, unnecessary, with very repetitive missions and gameplay. B tier. Tactics: Best story and music in all Final Fantasy. Arguably the only spinoff worthy of S+ tier. X-2: Most underrated FF title. But as others have said, you dance to unlock anything. You got the battle mechanics totally wrong. Fight against Trema in Active Mode, and then you'll see why this was the best iteration of the ATB system.

You can't "truly" rank something you haven't tried. Your video was generally good, and your opinions mostly well put out. But giving ALL the mobile games the lowest rank just because you don't like the medium, whithout ever having even tried any of them? That's lazy, dishonest, and simply unprofessional. You can dislike them all you like, but at least give them an honest try before you do so, and refrain to make uninformed assertions that are simply untrue. Take Final Fantasy Brave Exvius for instance. You say that Final Fantasy games are "giant epic journeys that span the globe and save the universe". Well, one may dislike the summon system of FFBE, hate on the lack of free world map exploration (I know I did), or find the story corny, but the storyline is just that, a giant epic journey than span the globe(s) to save the universe. The story has been going on for over 3 years now, and new chapters are being added every month. I have'nt played the other mobile games much, and can't vouch for them, but am also hearing somewhat good things about Dissidia: Opera Omnia.
@lenlimbo5 жыл бұрын
Dissidia Opera Omnia story is Dissidia's story done well. It involves all the characters, they talk, banter and resolve things. And it generally treats the characters quite well. Very close to their original counterparts, when those were actually a thing (so yes, the WoL from FF 1 is not exactly like in FF 1, because there he hadn't any character so to speak, but pretty much everyone else is like they are in their games)
@alrox97604 жыл бұрын
Dissidia opera omnia... is a Well better done dissidia game than NT... And the story is still updated... FFRK is a bunch of nostalgia from all the FF games and now not only does it have the record realms to experience the story from the main titles and sequels and spinoffs... it now has its own story and recreates scenes from many FF games with 8-16bit scenes like the original titles... FFRK is a throwback for the classic games and its well done and really free to play friendly

As a kid I was about 5-7 years old playing mostly pokemon and spyro, games like final fantasy 7 went straight over my head due to them being just a bit too complicated for me to get anywhere with. It wasnt until I was a teenager playing games like oblivion that I fell in love with rpgs. Then as an adult, final fantasy xv comes out. This was an amazing game, and so brilliant because it gave me a starting point with the franchise where I could fall in love with the game enough to go back and play the older entries in the series. I'm currently playing through the original final fantasy 7 and I'm fucking loving it. I think the fact that I can go back and play a 20 plus year old game with which I have never played and enjoy it as much as I am really shows how well the game has aged.

And they are all recreated in 2D form. The coolest is the "demake" of all 3D final fantasy games. Please try Record Keeper just for the Record Dungeons. It's a delight to see those cutscenes again, especially if you're a big FF fan.
@evanvongustav88143 жыл бұрын
"Final fantasy is about giant worlds and fighting to save the universe. These mobile games aren't that" My dude, you know that feeling that PS1 players describe about the first time they played the Original FF7 in the days before the internet, "when you get near the end of Midgar, where "you think, 'I think this is almost over. This feels like the climax of a hollywood movie, and there's nowhere else left to go in this city, maybe the last two discs are for challenge modes or behind the scenes or w/e, and then you make it to the end of midgar and find out that it's all one area in a MASSIVE overworld, AND this is all somehow on disc 1?" Well, Brave Exvius kinda does something similar. You start off on the Grandshelt Isles, a sizable map-select style world map where each location has a minimum 4 battles and 2 cutscenes, but its usually 3 cutscenes or one or two of the battles will have dialogue, (ok, significant boss stages will OCCASIONALLY be the ONLY battle in a location. Outside of those significant boss fights, each battle has 3-4 waves of enemies) and by the time you've finished the grandshelt isles, you get this feeling that this story CANNOT keep going that much longer, then 13 battle stages, a ton of cutscenes, and 3 towns later, you find out that the Grandshelt Isles are just one third of the Grandshelt "continent" when the map zooms out with 2/3 of it covered by mist, then have half of the mist fade away revealing Lanzelt, leaving to realize that there's still at least one more country to explore after Lanzelt, making you realise the game isn't even close to the halfway point, then, after you clear all three countries in Grandshelt, the map zooms out AGAIN, making you realize that the entire game up to this point is just ONE SMALL CORNER OF THE WORLD MAP, (literally in the upper left corner), and you're like, "oh my god, all this is at most 30% of the the story"). And if you ever think, "if all they do is tell me they've been wandering for a long time, I won't feel quite the same as if I experienced it", there's often an additional Exploration stage in any given Forest, Ruins, Cave, Mountain path, etc. filled with random encounters, side quests, chests, all that Final Fantasy goodness, complete with a field miniboss monster jumping you with little to no context beyond "this monster is territorial and/or carnivorous and hungry, and conveniently caught you as you were 2 steps away from EXITING its territory and/or hunting grounds", oftentimes sidequests will send you looking for a specific part of an exploration map, which leads to you instigating a fight against an extra scripted fight or finding a key item, or finding a key item, THEN getting jumped by a scripted fight. Explorations often have alternate exits that lead to bonus areas with cool shops or unlock a map with a new summon (all the summons except the first one are in secret areas that must be unlocked, usually through talking to every NPC you find in Towns to learn a rumor about a place and it's location relative to other landmarks.

And they are really meticulous about certain things. While there are a LOT of palette swaps in the enemies, each one has a bio you can unlock by Scanning them, which you can then read by going to "Guides" -> "Monsters" ("Guides" is basically a poorly named Bestiary, as the game mechanics are detailed elsewhere in the menu,) most every enemy with a different name or even a different sprite has a unique 1 to 3 sentence bio. And even better, even event monsters are in the bestiary, so whenever you get to fight monsters in the world of Orience from Type-0 or Gaea from VII or Eos from XV in one of the numerous crossover events, that's more bios to read. Every item, and equip you collect has a description, and many contain cool references, and playable characters have their oqn seperate Bestiary from monsters, any character you've owned has its own bio with its own viewable sprites, animations, etc. And each time you upgrade a characters rarity, their bio has an extra line or 2, which means while there's a lot of overlap, they have to write every bio 3 times over. You could spend hours in the story even if you steamroll the actual fights, you can spend hours just reading the bios if you've scanned every enemy you see, or even if you can't pull any 5 stars, there's so many 3 and 4 stars that the character bio is pretty meaty even if all you have are a bunch of 3 or 4 star characters. This game's roster is massive, even if a lot of them are completely useless in today's meta. Name a character that appears in Brave Exvius's own story, you can probably summon them and play as them. You can find nearly any party member or significant antagonist or NPC too, (except somehow we still don't have Cid Highwind), from Reno (VII) to Rydia (IV) to Fujin and Raijin (VIII) to motherf***ing Kenny Crow Thalia, and Aranea (XV) and Yazoo and Loz (FFVII AC), or Brother (X) You've got everything from protags and final bosses to NPCs that you almost forgot was even in your favorite FF, is my point. And tbey occassionally even have collabs with other SE IPs. If a character from an FF game you never played intrigues you, you can find out what game they appear in, etc. The story itself is about as crazy/ambitious/massive as it gets in FF, too, Act I, has Rain unlock the mysterious power of Visions, crystalized memories given form, then try to master it before it kills him, all the while trying to locate his missing father and stop not 4, but 8 Elemental Armored Warriors from destroying not 4 but 8 elemental crystals that hold the world together. Without naming names, as it turns out, the "leader" of these 8 Elemental warriors (called Veritas or collectively "The Sworn Six/Eight of Paladia") has a special connection to Rain. And though they number 8, there's only 6 active members at the start because one went missing a long time ago and another defected. They also claim to be from a place called Paladia despite no records of a country by that name exist on the World of Lapis where the game takes place. As I said before, the Sworn Six's goal is to destroy the 8 elemental crystals that hold the world of Lapis together, thereby causing the destruction of Lapis as far as anyone understands, and each crystal destroyed also releases an Elemental Sage who were sealed away a long time ago by their oppressors, and though in the past they were all noble, they were all warped by being sealed in their respective crystals for so long. The effects ranged from amnesia to loss of sentience to loss of sanity to developing a sense of self and emotions bu
