Ranking Every World in New Super Mario Bros. U

To celebrate my New Super Mario Bros. Wii world ranking absolutely blowing up, I thought it was about time to finally make a sequel video to it lol! I was gonna release this yesterday, but I got sick and wasn't sure when I'd be able to finish it, hence the lack of updates. Enjoy the surprise!

The idea of Peach's Castle being the destination had so much wasted potential. It could have had a completely different direction than the usual NSMB games. Here how it could have went: World 1: Fruity Beach. The first part of this world happens in a beach, with simple, tutorial levels. The second half has a lot of underwater levels. World 2: Sing-Song Savannah. This is a world based on a savannah, with a musical theme like in Melody Motorway. World 3: Sweet Sweet Canyon. This is a dessert-focused world, with cakes you have to climb, or candy slopes you can slide on. World 4: Wiggler Forest. This level happens in a forest with autumn trees, Maple Treeway style. There are log bridges and levels that happen inside the trees. World 5: Boo Village. Unlike the actual World 5 we got, it's a world that is exclusively focused on haunted levels. The first levels happen in haunted fields, and the final levels happen in a haunted tower. World 6: Samurai Peaks. This world is based off of Japanese culture, with pagodas and cherry blossom trees. We could bring back the Ninjis or those ninja enemies from Super Mario Land. World 7: Dry Dry Ruins. This world is a desert world, but this time, it's focused on the ruins setting, with temples, cave, and abandoned towns. World 8: Peach's Castle. This time, you actually get through the castle with a mix between the usual architecture of Peach's Castle, and the usual volcano theme of a final world.

I really like how pretty some of the backgrounds look in this game, from World 4 with the night sky and snowy aesthetic to World 7 with the ominous-looking purple clouds. And of course, Painted Swampland is simply an amazing work of art.

Honestly almost all of the games backgrounds are visual beauties that not enough people bring up. Like despite not doing much with the new twists they add, visually the game looks fantastic. Some of my favorites are 6-1, those crazy slanted mountains look so freaking cool. 2-1, even when used for one level, the sand dunes and the extreme windy nature of the flowing clouds look cool along with the dark blue color. The in and above cloud backgrounds are genuinely beautiful, and I love the detail of them adding the gumdrop mountains into the background of world 7 since we're basically above the mushroom kingdom. And in my opinion Mario maker 2 makes some of them look even better, the biggest example is the soda jungle background in mm2, it looks so lush and pretty with the added shading. And the daytime look they gave frosted glacier with the stripped mountains looks great and fits right in. In conclusion yeah I'm a nsmbu defender

A lot of the RPGs (namely Paper Mario 64, Partners in Time, Bowser’s Inside Story and Origami King to an extent) handled the concept of “Peach’s Castle getting overtaken by the villain” FAR better than NSMBU.

@ I relatively agree with you on Partners in Time and Bowser’s Inside Story (despite the former’s time travel shenanigans and Bowser mishandling), but as much as I like Superstar Saga’s story for how off-the-wall it is, it makes ZERO sense if you try to think about it logically. (eg. Why weren’t the Mario Bros immediately told that the Peach with the stolen voice was an impostor? How did Bowser end up with Popple?) Dream Team briefly hypes up its new villain at the start only to completely sideline him when Bowser enters the fray, and as for Paper Jam… does that game even HAVE a story?

Excellent ranking. It really is annoying that people don't give this series the creativity points it deserves and say that "every NSMB is the same" when in reality, that couldn't be further from the truth, especially when playing them all next to each other. I'd love to see you cover DS and 2 (and NSLU if that counts)

World 7 is called Meringue Clouds. "murr-ANG" clouds. As in, egg whites whipped with sugar. This is a great video though, please don't take this correction too harshly, I really enjoyed it!

I’ve been trying to finish my 100% run on this game, and I like a ton of the worlds. There’s a ton of good levels to play, and I’d say there’s no world that I’d call “bad”, just underwhelming (Acorn Plains & Layer-Cake Desert).

even though this is my least favorite NSMB game, I still think this game has a lot of creative levels. Hell, just like you, I think World 5 is among the best worlds in the series (although it's not has good as NSMBDS World 6 or NSMBWii World 7 for me). awesome ranking

I personally think meringue clouds should be above the superstar road because the boss is beautiful ly done and Ludwig by far is always the most challenging. In both this version and the Wii version he is by far the best boss in my opinion

This is my ranking of worlds from worst to best number 9 layer cake desert I think it’s a bit boring and not that fun and it’s boss Morton koopa jr is probably my least favourite boss in the whole game number 8 acorn plains it has very simple music and design and it first introduced the new power up the acorn power up and it’s just a rip off of the raccoon power up from Nsmb2 and its boss lemmy koopa is very simple number 7 superstar road it’s design is good but the levels are so hard and there’s no boss which is ok but I wish there can be some secret boss number 6 peaches castle so it’s interesting how bowser took over it and the purple clouds around it is just reminds me of breath of the wilds malice clouds are covering hyrule castle and I think NSMBU bowser fight is the best number 5 sparkling waters I’m not a fan of a world of water but I think the design of it is pretty good and the boss of it Larry koopa his fight is simple and hard for different players number 4 meringue clouds I love cloud levels because when I was a child I dreamed of being high in the sky and the boss Ludwig von koopa is a master peice number 3 rock candy mines I do like the feel of being in a rocky area and the design is good the boss Roy koopa is cool number 2 soda jungle is very hard and tricky it’s like the forest of illusion from super Mario world and it’s boss Iggy koopa is fun and tricky number 1 frosted glacier the design is very beautiful and it’s boss Wendy o koopa is pretty good and don’t forget to like my comment and reply
