I feel that Yoshi is kinda trapped being the “kiddie” Nintendo series, what with the cute childlike art styles, cutesy instruments like recorders, kazoos, and xylophones, and the beyond easy difficulty. I think they got the idea from the original’s coloring book aesthetic, even though the soundtrack sounded like any other SNES game and the levels were pretty engaging and fairly difficult.
@jclkaytwo2 жыл бұрын
woolly world escapes the "kiddie soundtrack" trap. there's so much variety in the music, including rock.

I definitely agree. In some games, the difficulty balance is perfect, allowing for easy accessibility for younger players while offering a decent (optional) challenge for those who want it. In other games, though, they really do cater more to the younger player base. I'd love to see a return to Yoshi's Island's difficulty balance: easy enough levels to get through (although some of the later levels were legit tough), but a real challenge to 100% complete. I think that's when Yoshi's games are at their strongest, and appeal to the most people.

You played as Yoshi and went against some of the antagonists of Yoshi's Island, recruiting all of them up until you go to the mountain. I’ll admit Yoshi’s Story may seem a little weird at first, but honestly, I think it’s great! It’s very different from any other Yoshi game, and focuses on trying to get a high score far more than the others and finding the fruit that will help you achieve this goal the best. Beating the game is easy, but the true challenge is perfecting every level. Also, you feel AWFUL when you die in this game. If you’ve played it, you know what I mean. Also, the Yoshi‘s Story ending theme remix from Brawl is so so good!

I'm nearly 40 years old and Yoshi has been my favorite video game character since I was a child. While I completely understand and respect his ranking, Yoshi's Story will probably always be my number 1. I remember playing that game when I was young over and over again just so I could write down each levels story and draw each of the chapter select screens just so I could make my own "hard copy" of Yoshi's story. I still have it to this day (as well as my Yoshi's Story and Super Mario 64 folders I had in middle school). I know exactly what you mean about dying in this game. The black and white yoshis were my favorite to play with but I would usually stick to the other yoshis because I knew they would make it back during the end credits even if I couldn't find the white shy guy.

That's technically Panel de Pon. I personally think it's not fair to count "Panel de Pon but with a Yoshi coat of paint" as a Yoshi game. It's Panel de Pon. The gameplay, the modes, a lot of the assets... It's all Panel de Pon, just with Yoshi characters taking the place of the Fairies. Can a game where everything is taken straight from a completely different game except there's Yoshi characters now really be considered a Yoshi game ? No. It's a game from the franchise that created all these elements but with Yoshis instead. But that doesn't make it a Yoshi game since none of it was created for Yoshi originally.

@@roykoopabestboy Mario bros 2 still had Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Peach (maybe not Bowser depending on which Mario Bros 2 you're speaking of). Tetris Attack is if instead of releasing Super Mario Bros to the west, they replaced the Mario characters with more popular characters and Mario stayed Japan only. Oh and also then Mario characters only appear in another game after that, one that still doesn't get out of Japan and has to share the spotlight with two other more popular franchises. And then no more Mario at all besides tiny cameos and a role in yet another underrated game nobody knows about. Wouldn't that be unfair towards the Mario characters and THEIR franchise ? Well it's exactly what happened to the fairies of Panel de Pon. The OG characters of the game. Well I guess technically Mario Bros. 2 Doki Doki Panic IS similar to Panel de Pon. Its original characters never made it out of Japan and were replaced by Mario instead. But these characters were mascots of a Japanese radio or something. We in the west wouldn't have understood the inspiration. But the Panel de Pon characters are completely original and didn't suffer this problem. And yet.

I also grew up with Yoshi’s Island on the GBA. It was definitely one of my favorites growing up. And I just got a WiiU last fall and finally got to try out Woolly World. I was always sad they never ported it to the switch since I love crocheting and a game full of yarn creatures and worlds really speaks to me lol.

I received a random free game with my custom gameboy color at it happened to be a Japanese copy of yoshis cookie… I’ve never really batted an eye at puzzle games except Tetris and I’ll say yoshis cookie is probably my favorite of the two its surprisingly really fun

I've always adored the Arts-N-Crafts Style in video games, and Yoshi had plenty of them to keep me invested. Whether they're paper crafts, fabric, or Coloring Book art style, These Jolly Colorful Dinos always put a smile on my face. 😊

I really liked your ranking of these games, and all of these character game ranking in general! (Even if I swear by Luigi’s Mansion 3 being the best). Is Donkey Kong coming next?

Yoshi's woolly world is the best one in my opinion. The art style is very unique and the fact that it's still an exclusive to the Wii U makes me happy.
@Trueffelguy2 жыл бұрын
Not me, since I don't have one and really want to try it out...I mean, there is the 3ds version, but a HD switch port would be nice. I understand your thought though
@CoolCatDoingAKickflip2 жыл бұрын
@@Trueffelguy Yeah, I just want the Wii U to keep most of it's exclusives since I personally feel like it's a great console with great games.
@Trueffelguy2 жыл бұрын
@@CoolCatDoingAKickflip I understand that, I also think Nintendo is ridding the Wii U of its worth by porting most of the exclusives to the switch. It kind of makes the Switch somewhat lack it's own personality too...

Yoshi's Island DS was my childhood. Super hard at times but I could still beat it. I got the GBA Snes one later, and for some reason, even though people always say that DS is just the same thing again, the Snes one doesn't have the same charm for me. Still good though

Yoshi's Story was the first Yoshi game I played and I have really fond memories of it. I played it again last year and I still had a great time. Everything from the visuals, music, and relaxing gameplay just oozes joy for me. Nostalgia definitely is a big part of it too since I played it as a kid, but it's just so charming. The only other Yoshi game I played was Yoshi's Island which I played for the first time in 2020 on NSO. It was fun, but it didn't seem to have the same charm as Yoshi's Story to me.

One thing I love about Yoshi's woolly world, is how recognizable the music is, for example, 1 - 5. (The one with the windmills) That music is so iconic and I hear it all over youtube. Plus some of the music in this game like the special courses and Ms. Cluck are just bangers.

I had fun as a kid playing Yoshi’s Safari. My main complaint had more to do with the Super Scope itself, rather than the game. You couldn’t use rechargeable batteries, and every time you forgot to turn the Super Scope off after playing, you would run the batteries down and have to buy new ones - every time.

Yoshi’s Woolly world is my favourite game of all time personally, I remember having an amazing time just playing each world over again as different yoshies and with every level being unique, an amazing art style and many great Yoshi designs to pick from, it truly has the potential to be one of the greatest games of all time.

I think my top two favourite games of all time are extremely underrated due to the conceal they came out with, them being Yoshi’s Woolly world and Donkey kong country tropical freeze.

Yoshi woolly world is so good I bought the game 4 times Wii U 1 physical 1 digital and on the 3ds 1 physical and 1 digital. The reason why is because the disk for the Wii U broke and I got it digitally. for the 3ds I got digital but had no storage so I got a phisical version.

Yoshi Story was the first ever video game I had. It's got a simple structure and was easy for child me to grasp. It wasn't so much supposed to be a difficult game with challenging bosses as it was just a nice little story time, where you guide Yoshi through the chapters of the story bringing him to retrieve the Super Happy Tree- if you want more of a "challenge" you can find the 30 special melons scattered and hidden around each of the chapter levels and find the secret Black and White Yoshis. It's definitely a "kiddie" game, but I remember it very fondly ^^

I honestly really like crafted world and feel it’s way too overlooked (probably because people usually prefer woolly world) As you said the music and souvenirs are really the game’s main issue but aside from that the levels look good and all have many creative and fun ideas to always feel different and aside from the souvenirs the other collectibles are fun to get. So overall it’s a very solid 2D platformer As for the comparaison with woolly world both games are about equally as great imo just for different reasons
