Ranking EVERY Zelda Game (Including Tears of the Kingdom) NO SPOILERS

The Zelda series is one of gaming's finest. Close to 40 years of history with more masterpieces than failures. Just about every Zelda game has at least something to like about it with most of them having many. In this video we rank the 20 Legend of Zelda games from worst to best.
This video was written in 2021 and edited in 2022 hence the numbers being off and the lack of Tears of the Kingdom mention in the intro. Tears of the Kingdom was added onto the list in the place we believed it to belong. The video was already done but just needed Tears of the Kingdom added and we wanted to get this ranking to you soon hence the numbers not being fixed as it would need to be re-recorded and edited.

Playing OOT when it was released was like going from a bicycle to a Ferrari. That's how revolutionary it was. When evaluating each game in its historical context, OOT is the best.

I personally enjoyed Botw more than Totk due to its' better art style (mainly talking about the shrines and towers) and setting. Totk has a way cooler story, though, it's a shame how they basically retconned all the Sheikah stuff though. I also enjoyed the runes of Botw slightly more than Totk, they complemented the shrines and divine beasts better. Edit: oh yea, and the champion abilities were better than sage abilities.

I liked Tears’ runes more but I wish stasis was kept in. That was really fun to use. The bomb ones were just replaced by the bomb flower and the water one was cool but I get why they didn’t bring it back

Honestly, totk is an objectively better game with more stuff to do and a funner gameplay experience. But imo, botw will always be infinitely better just due to personal preference. I love how simple it seems now and how beautiful it is. The first and second time I played it I recall nostalgic feelings and serenity. It will always be my favourite game ever.

@@cadez8386 I like the setting and the Shiekah tech way more. I find it kind of boring that Death Mountain is no longer erupting, shiekah tech is basically just gone and the divine beasts are really cool looking. Totk may be better, but botw is less gimmiky and more pure.

Glad you mentioned you were talking about the original for Skyward Sword and not the remake. I've yet to play either yet but I went ahead and got SS remake for about $60 with no knowledge of the game but I've yet to play a Zelda that wasn't at least a 9 / 10.

As someone born in the early 2000’s who grew up with Zelda 1, I understand its faults. But I also believe that the dungeons really worked in this game. If you use an overword guide (or just know it front to back) you can have a lot more fun just going straight to the dungeons. Definitely still low on the list, but I believe it should be a bit higher.

​@@adualaispuro I'm following zelda ranked videos while working on mine. This case was a bit tasteless as he did this video 4 months ago as well, but I noticed that IGN did literally the same thing. However, this was definitely a case of it being rushed. It's literally the exact same video aside from poorly placed footnotes and then tossing in totk in there. Not to mention how the totk entry actually is. It's fine if he needed another voice over for the entry, but the audio isn't even normalized with the rest of the audio in the video. I have to turn up the volume to the max, and obv it goes to the "old" video volume after giving potential ear damage lol. It's takes literally 10 seconds to normalize the audio, that's literally the name of the effect to use in audacity, but whoever edited this didn't even take the time to do it. Not to mention the already glaring editing issues with this. Sure, the numbers being wrong in the beginning is not the worst (shouldn't it be 19 and not 18?), but then there's stuff like showing Four Swords Adventures gameplay during the Four Swords entry, and then showing it again for Four Swords Adventures, and some really weird editing choices like stretching the DS footage to make it widescreen. He knew when the game is coming out, and sure, if he wanted to get views like this I have not as big of a beef, as cynical as it is, but he could have worked at least on the editing before, like instead of saying #16 which will throw people off now that the count is different, to just as "our next entry is", and then when he knew that totk was going to be that rank just spend a few minutes changing the numbers on the top left corner. If anything, this is a lesson to keep the raw footage of your old videos, cause you'll never know when you need them. I'm learning the same lesson for my zelda ranked video.

My biggest gripe with Breath of The Wild is that it’s WAAAAY TOO EASY!! I’m hopeful the latest Zelda effort has a difficulty level beyond that of a baby.

I dont think TOK can ever be number 1 in my view. Im playing it right now and its great and way better than BOTW but in many ways it feels like im playing BOTW. sometimes I dont even realize im playing TOK and for that to me it doesnt have that enough orginal feel to be the best Zelda game. It might be in my top 10 but no higher

Ranking OOT below BOTW is insane. It doesn't have proper dungeons, which is what makes a Zelda game a Zelda game. It also lacks the fun of collecting new items, since any cool new weapon or shield will just break after using it 10 times. BOTW and TOTK are open world games with a Zelda skin thrown on.
