Ranking My Pat McGrath Palettes | 2023 edition

I usually film pretty low effort videos because time- and energy-wise, that is all I can spare for youtube. THIS required a lot more work though. I am not someone who can naturally speak for 2 hours, so dang was this exhausting plus there were unanticipated tech issues...it appears neither my SD card, nor my macbook are equipped to handle 2h of HD footage LOL. So, I had to record this twice. Hope you enjoy, I did my best!

There is something about Midnight Sun that just gets me as well. The beauty of it is the fact that it is versatile and it is not a one note color story. Whenever I open it I still get a sense of whimsical intrigue and dark romantic inspiration. I adore it. I love all of her Motherships to be honest, and as you have said as our tastes and moods change our favorites shift. For me it’s Subliminal and Midnight Sun.

I’ll never forget how I found your channel years ago: your review of Midnight Sun. So it feels kind of full circle to have it ranked so high! I loved this video because it really reminded me of all the beautiful palettes I already own and gives me inspiration to pull out the ones I haven’t used in a while. Thats a good idea, she could maybe to them as single shadows if she thinks she doesnt sell her bigger palette with too many bold shades. I really want the green/blue from 2022 holiday palette, but I could not justify getting the whole palette for that shade 😅

❤❤❤ all of your reactions were totally worth it! So, I would recommend to try the free trials of a few different note keeping apps to see which ones fits you best. The one I use is called Paper. I really enjoy all the features and it’s quite easy and intuitive to use. And, it was not expensive either!

This made my day! I spent all morning cleaning and decided to take a break. I was so happy my favorite creator had posted a video with my favorite content- and it was long! I must say I wasn’t that surprised with your ranking as I have noticed you wearing more neutrals lately. Midnight Sun has been my number one for a while now, as I love it’s versatility. My second favorite is Subliminal. I adore everything about that cool-toned loveliness. Third place would have to go to Subversive, because I feel like it really compliments brown eyes. Thanks for spending so much of your free time making this video! I also like to keep track of my makeup on my iPad, I like to play with eye looks on the app called Procreate. I upload a palette and have some glitter brushes that I goof around with. Procreate is the best app I have ever purchased and highly recommend it for anyone with an iPad!

Love the video! I am glad you pointed out that yes, the shades can be beautiful and unique but they dont always show up flattering on your skin tone. I am very pale and some deep, rich shades are beautiful but turn muddy on me and look blah with my skin tone.

Thanks so much for this!!! I have the Interstellar Icon and never tried Golden Polaris and I was speechless!!! This is really such a pretty shade!!! Combined it with the shifty blue and pulled from Nocturnal Nirvana the teal shade… it’s perfect 😍 Also, I love the Gold in Nocturnal Nirvana because I think it makes sense with the green, it reminds me of a mermaids tale shifting in green and gold on the sun. The purple is the one I am having problems implementing in this color story. Honestly this channel has been so helpful in my Pat Mcgrath journey ❤️

Try using the purple as a liner, it is how I use it...otherwise I find it too dark and dry.

I’m so happy that someone could appreciate the beauty of decadence. It came to my collection only very recently and although it lacks special shades, all the colors in this palette are stunning. Too sad it is removed from Pat’s website (I guess that means it is discontinued because it had not been selling well). Love your efforts putting into this video!

I loved this super long video! Thanks for putting in the time and effort to make this ranking video. I thought I would absolutely hate Huetopian Dream because of how warm it is so I added it later in my collection, but I've been pleasantly surprised and proven wrong by how much I enjoy the looks I get from it! I've been able to do a variety of looks that I love with it too. I felt like Decadence wouldn't be used often as well because it doesn't have any special shades, but I find myself using it a lot because of how beautiful and smooth the metallics are!

I still remember our exchange where I shared that I loved the mothership and that they were worth the money…you were very reluctant at first. And then …love! I have all the palettes. Not sure that I use them like you do to be able to rank them all. Some get more love than others. My 1 is subliminal. 2-Midnight Sun. So under appreciated. It is also Alicia’s favorite. 3-decadence. After that is a blur. I would need to open them all to figure it out. 😱🤣😎

I was sure that bronze bliss would be in the first place haha. I was definitely not expecting Midnight sun!! I know there is a color combo for your go to look but I wasn't expecting it as winner but that's probably mainly because I don't use my Midnight sun palette (I should really sell it lol) and I was projecting :D. My favorite is Sublime. Love me some cool tones. I was also pretty surprised to see Subliminal and Decadence so high! But I totally understand..VR nectar is such a stunner (Devinah Tucana and Terra Moons Venus should be very close but of course Pat's baked shade has no true rival)

It’s funny how I was looking at the new Pat McGrath pallet, which I’m sadly not gonna buy because of the same reasons everybody’s complaining about… absolutely a lack of artistry for this new SUNLIT Seduction I believe it’s called.. IF YOU HAVE DIVINE ROSE ONE AND TWO, YOU DO NOT NEED THIS PALLET. HOWEVER, AS A COLLECTOR, I’M REALLY TORN. Anyway, I guess since I was looking at videos with the new pallet, your video came up on my feed … I really enjoyed your commentary on the pallets. I to agree with you about the burgundy type shades from Pat McGrath. I cannot wear them either regardless of how pretty the swatches look.. Like you, I have light slightly olive skin tone in my eyes are brown… I look like I have the flu when I wear those color shades on my lids. As I am disappointed with Pat new pallet because I feel like she just doesn’t give a crap about what her customers have been asking for while she’s charging top dollar… As you went through, your pallets really brought to my attention how are repetitious her shades are.. so many Rosie, burgundies, and so many golds from palette to palette to palette… Well, hopefully this holiday season, she’ll put out some thing that we could all be excited about and enjoy. Thank you for showing me all the pallets in one video. I loved it. Thank you.

Uau Mariam what a task! I love to see what each person thinks of mother's palettes. For me it's huetopian dream, sith seduction and decadence. ( 4th would be the golden one from star wars 2 collection - which i absolutely loved!) All of these bring me the most joy, but like you and many others I don't think Pat has done a really bad palette . Loved this 1 hour video so thank you for your effort and time taken! This is such a tough thing to do because so many of PML’s palettes are AMAZING! My current favorite (and most used) is Moonlit Seduction, Mothership X; but I ALWAYS wear it with Mothership I (Subliminal). My second favorite is the quad Interstellar Icon. After that, I’d probably go VII (Divine Rose I) and V (Bronze seduction)(I’m a cool toned neutral girl at heart)!

I don’t have a wet lab so my notes are a little less formal. I flip-flop between digital and analog. I love my IPad for conference notes, papers, and reviews. I still use paper for day to day notes, but that’s mostly because I love fountain pens and paper. The digital format is much more efficient but the tactile sensation of note taking is eternal.

I also side-eye Pat (or any brand really) palette rankings with basically new palettes. I view them as very different categories. The Motherships are meant to teach you something new…combining colors and textures in new ways. The blitz quads are a party but much less versatile compared to a mothership.

Wow, I really love her older palettes form 2018! She went more bold with the colours then. Midnight sun is my favorite as well; I have soon hit pan on the light brown and the light upper left shade ❤The only shade I dont use is the green as it pulls dark/not green on my lid. This is also the case for the green in the mini retro paledde from ND so maybe its just my skin tone. I have owned bronze seduction, huetopian dream and moonlit seduction and nocturnal nirvana but since I didnt love enoug of the shades on me (compared to how much they cost), I sold them. I have voyeristic vixen which I love and the first bridgerton palette. I have not sold these so its a sign that I do really like them 😅 She needs to make more palette with the baked mattes from the bridgerton palette!

Maybe if you use a coloured base on your lid, the green shade will show up as green? I actually really love that tone of olivy/ khakhi greenness!

I know what you mean and I miss the Pat who made collections like the 2018 one. But you never know, she’s full of surprises. If you have Gigabyte or the alternative in Bridgerton 2 to mix with the olive from Midnight Sun, you will definitely see the green peek through more.

Oooooo so much to unpack here: 1. I can see your point, although I wouldn't include Decadence in here. 2. I usually quite like her 6 pans, no idea about the Love collection...didn't try anything from it. They are made in different labs: Motherships and Bridgerton in Italy, all other 6 pans in US. Actually quite liked the satin baked shades, too bad they are all colors I don't like all that much. 3. Again different labs. The baked blitz/astrals are made in Italy, so it the Vixen quad. Personally, I disliked the quads from 2021, but I love the ones from 2020. I have never really had much issues with any of Pat's formulas overall, although I can tell the subtle differences. 4. I can see why you might feel that way about HD. These formulas would not be everyone's taste. 5. YAY!!!

I own the new one, also got it just recently - they look identical to the swatches I see in youtube reviews. Also, the dark purple is of wonderful quality. I heard in some older palettes it could be dry, but in the new one it's top-notch. I lament the old luxurious packaging tho. But I'm happy at least she restocked them at all - they meant to be a limited edition, strictly speaking.
