In fact, it wasn't a Lucrehulk-Class Battleship but a Lucrejulk-Class Droid Controllship. The Battleships didn't exist until the Clone Wars and differ by having way, waaaay more turbolasers (and the lack of antennas even tho they are mix forms with the antennas of the Droid Controllship and the weaponary of the Battleship)

Palpatine was dead after Episode 6. He learned to cheat death however trough Plagueis teachings and achieved to be revived into a clone of his own.
