It was a crying shame that we had the 2 greatest at the same time with him & the Rock and their peak was about 5 years max. Can’t believe they were both gone by 2003, for different reasons of course but at least they can both say when they left when wrestling was still the best thing on TV

1996-Mid 1997 Stone Cold was very unfiltered and move set was more versatile before SummerSlam 1997. Imagine If we had that version throughout the Attitude Era and beyond.

At the age of 31, you forget how brief of a period all those memories made in the attitude era truly was. The rock only 4 years, stone cold only 5 to 6. It's amazing how little time people need to become iconic and considered the best when allowed free reign.

@TheDanielShepherd
@TheDanielShepherd Жыл бұрын
If you notice, in the 90s, nothing lasted very long. Then you get to the 2000's onwards and everything lasts forever. I don't know why this has happened. Every 2 years in the 90s looks like a totally different WWF. Where as, apart from the performers you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between a 2010 WWE show and a 2023 WWE show. The Undertaker went through about 8 versions of himself from 1991 to 2001. Then he came back as the final form and stayed EXACTLY that way until he retired. Everyone in the 90s had short runs. Bret, Shawn, Austin, Rock. Roman's been a champion longer than someone of them were in their entire run.
@Draconamous
@Draconamous Жыл бұрын
@TheDanielShepherd and that's why it is so insane to think about. Back then I was a kid and had no responsibility and so it felt a lot longer to me. Now 6 to 7 years seems short but a longer career then most in wwe.

Little credit is given to how good Austin was in the ring. Though after the devastatingly carrer ending neck injury his style became more of the brawler. His each journey from WCW pairing with Brian Pillman to ECW making shoot promos to finally then WWF, he made quite a journey. Frankly his style of promos during his fued with Bret and later Rock were the best moments of Austin's legacy. He did add Brian Pillman's loose cannon gimmick Anti Authority heel gimmick to his own.

His marriage to Debra fell apart due to her manipulative and controlling behavior (preventing his kids from visiting him, leaving him stranded at arenas, etc.) mixed with his own personal health issues and professional frustrations. The domestic violence allegations didn’t raise their head until weeks before he sought to file for divorce from her.

Definitely the version we’ve always remembered him for (that we saw in 1996, although, technically, made his WWF debut in late 1995), that played a colossal / whopping / gargantuan role in (exactly said era’s initial year) 1998’s ‘attitude’ era - bald head and goatee (signature move the ‘Stone Cold Stunner’, and theme ‘Hell Frozen Over’).

I've always heard that Stone Cold was a great in ring wrestler yet I was never impressed with his work in the Attitude Era, but I never connected the dots that he had to change his style after his neck injury. All his great work was (unfortunately) before his rise to fame. With that said, in the video it's said that he changed to the style that would define the Attitude Era... so would he have still gotten over so much if it never changed into the brawler style that fit his character more?

Frankly beside nWo, which was an inspiration from the NJPW and not his original idea, Eric Bischoff had no idea what he is doing, why he was booking certain talents, and that's why EB led to demise of two great wrestling firms..... The short run success of WCW should not be considered a great decision because going concern is a principal for any company and the 2 or 3 years of being at top doesn't really count. Calling SCSA not a marketing wrestler, poorly utilising Sting, Bret Hart and ending the streak actually showed us what a failed manager/decision maker Eric Bischoff was in hindsight.
