Hey Pete. I have an idea for a new series you could do that I think is interesting. It’s where you rank all of the songs off a certain album like for example you take Ride the Lightning and rank all of the songs off of it from your least favorite to your favorite and the rest of the videos of the series would be the same, but just different albums in each video. Just a thought and if you end up doing something similar that’d be cool.

I disagree with the 90’s remark, and I say it as a guy who is around Pardo’s age. The issue is not the decade as much as the pressure from the label to homogenize towards a “style and sound that sells”. It’s hard to say, but some of the worst drum sounds ever are on 80’s albums.

The debut is my favourite. The band, especially Blitz, is just so full of energy and aggression, plus Feel the Fire is probably my favourite Overkill song.

I absolutely love Overkill. What a great band, came across them randomly one day on KZbin when I was a teenager when I found "Hello From The Gutter" & "Elimination," then found that my older brother had some Overkill albums. Love at first listen, those two remain two of my favourite Overkill tracks. My least favourite album is probably "I Hear Black," but I don't think Overkill have any bad albums. I enjoy them all, just to varying degrees. Right, now let's write this list. My number one and two are easy choices, have been that way for years. Three through ten will be more of a challenge. 1. Ironbound I fucking love this album. Until I heard this, Horroscope was definitely my favourite. The title track, the opener, "Endless War," "Killing for a Living," all killer tracks. "The SRC" is probably the weakest track here and I don't even think the song is that weak. The production is absolutely killer, really showcases the strength of the songs. 2. Horrorscope What a thrash classic. This albums is awesome. "Nice Day...for a Funeral," is my favourite song here. What an incredible solo too, the production of this album really aids in helping this songs slower/chuggy midsection really flourish. The drums are punchy but not over the top, the guitars are rounded and thick as can be, the bass is prominent without being distracting and Blitz sounds fantastic. 3. The Electric Age i was riding very high on Overkill when this album released and this album felt (to me) "more of the same" coming off Ironbound, and I didn't care one bit. The opening track is great, and personally the second half of the album is the stronger half. Each song is a banger, I'm still not huge on "Black Daze" but other then that, all fun songs that don't get old to my ears. 4. Under the Influence "Hello from the Gutter" was the first Overkill song I heard and that solo is easily one of my favourite in all of 80's thrash, sick playing and writing. This was the first Overkill album I bought as well, when I was sixteen. "End of the Line" is another favourite song of mine from this album. 5. From the Underground and Below I think this album is over looked a lot, "Save Me" and "It Lives" are two of Overkill's most fun tracks in my opinion. "Little Bit O' Murder" is pretty cool as well. I think the production here is pretty good too, a little bit more bassy than some but this album and "Necroshine" have similar production styles and I think they sound good. 6. The Wings of War Their latest album is a lot of fun, really enjoy the entire album. "Batshitcrazy" was an early standout track for me and one I still go back to pretty often. 7. The Years of Decay When I was younger, this album was a lot higher on my list. However, this album has dropped several spots for me and though songs like "Time to Kill," "Elimination" and "Birth of Tension" remain "go-to's" in the Overkill catalogue, but some of the other tracks for me haven't kept their shine. Not that I dislike them, just that I don't enjoy them as much as I used to. 8. Immortalis This album doesn't seem particularly popular amongst other Overkill fans, but I listened to this a lot when it came out and there are still songs like "Overkill V," "Charlie Get Your Gun," "Devils in the Mist," and "Skull & Bones" are definitely "go-to" Overkill tracks. 9. Feel the Fire This album has gotten better for me with age, despite the fact that I didn't really get into it on first listen. Took a little bit of time, but this album really warmed up for me. "Rotten to the Core," "Hammerhead," and "Kill at Command" remain album standouts for me. 10. Necroshine The productions of this album is pretty good I think, songs like the title track, "Forked Tongue Kiss," and "My December" are really highlighted from this sound. The title track is the most replayable for me, but overall this album is good. Such a great band, so many albums which all have highlights that make you want to go back to that particular album, time and time again. Long live Overkill!

It's absurd that Anthrax is part of the so-called Big 4 of Thrash, but not Overkill. Anthrax lost credibility with I'm The Man. Overkill has always been superior to Anthrax.

Death Angel, Exodus and Testament are better than Anthrax too.
@hellojimmypage3 жыл бұрын
Never cared about that Big 4 thing, it's a term some music journalist came up with in the 80s that has been totally irrelevant for a long time now. Don't let it bother you, better trust your own taste and instinct in music instead.

@@independenceltd. It's probably because of the album sales. Anthrax sold more than any of the bands you mentioned. And they were able to fill middle-sized venues (up to 6000 people) at their height. I think the same as you, all three bands (plus Overkill) are better. Anthrax have one great album and that's "Among the Living" to me. Maybe "Spreading the Disease", but the rest is just ok or even boring.

How is this band not more known throughout society?

I totally agree, I like Metallica and megadeth more because I’m not a 100% thrash guy and those are my 2 favorite bands, but if I did prioritize thrash, overkill would probably be my favorite band ever, and I don’t deny for a second they do thrash better than anyone I’ve heard, I think years of decay is the best thrash album I’ve ever heard, I may still like master of puppets better as an album, but overkill are thrash gods

Overkill are such an overlooked and underrated band and deserve more credit than they are given.
