For me 'Brothers and Sisters' will always be my favourite Allman Brothers album, it was the first one I listened to and it was their most commercially successful album for a good reason, the songs, the performances, the track running order and the production are spot on in my book!... 😊

What a magnificent band! I love pretty much everything the Allmans ever did, so this list could definitely change. Here’s my personal ranking of the albums, with the top eight all being absolute masterpieces: 1. Eat A Peach 2. The Allman Brothers Band (self-titled) 3. Idlewild South 4. Shades Of Two Worlds 5. Seven Turns 6. Brothers And Sisters 7. Hittin’ The Note 8. Where It All Begins 9. Enlightened Rogues 10. Win, Lose Or Draw 11. Reach For The Sky 12. Brothers Of The Road (still a decent album)

My favorite American band of all time! Saw them 36 times. No bad line ups. The interaction between Warren Haynes and Dickey and, or, Derek Trucks was a great as anything the band ever did. Of course, the original line up was the best, but those who cut off ties with the band after Duane died having really been missing out! My partial list goes like this: 9. Hittin' the Note (2003) 8. Enlightened Rogues (1979) 7. Where it All Begins (1994) 6. Brothers and Sisters (1973) 5. Seven Turns (1990) 4. Shades of Two Worlds (1991) 3. Eat a Peach (1972) 2. Idlewild South (1970) 1. The Allman Brothers Band (1969) I have all of the others. There are the occasional good cuts, but none of them, for me, belong in this group. Nice job, Pete!

Other than flipping "Seven Turns" and "Hittin' The Note" this would be my list as well. On any given week I may flip "Brothers and Sisters" and "Eat A Peach" but I agree with the bottom two at all times. I was fortunate enough to have been able to meet the band in 1981when I was 15 and later in 2004. The Dixie Dregs opened the show and I saw Steve Morse in the parking lot after the show. My stepfather had gone to school with him at Richmond Academy and I shouted out, "Hey, Steve! Tony Ivey told me to tell you hello." He was kind enough to stop and chat for several minutes and I asked for an autograph. Neither he or the 2 ladies with him had a pen nor did the 2 friends that were with me. He said his equipment was already loaded and he didn't have access to get me a pick but he could give me his ALL ACCESS pass if I would behave. We all 3 promised and got all 3 of their passes. I was able to chat with Butch Trucks at great length the first time and I asked if I could get something to drink. He stated I was obviously under legal drinking age and all he had in his cooler was Budweiser. He then shouted across the room to Gregg and said, "This young man needs something to drink. Can you help him out?" Gregg said, " I got Perrier water if that will work." Gregg motioned me over and handed me two small bottles of Perrier water, one which I drank immediately (only time I ever had it, didn't like it so much) and the other I kept, unopened, until it was lost during a move in 1998.

I'd argue that the later band with Warren and Derek were the equal of the Duane years. The songwriting wasn't as strong but they put out some very fine albums in the 90s.
@obbor44 жыл бұрын
@@PhilBaird1 I agree. And, as a live band, they so much more capable. I'm certain that Duane would have improved vastly over the years, as well, but it's not like he needed to. The abilities of people seasoned by decades of playing are generally vastly improved, if they can stay relatively straight most of the time. The lack of personal discipline showed, in spades, as far as Dickey was concerned. By the time they replaced with Derek Trucks, the younger guy was a much more capable player and a better band mate. The ABB throughout their later years was every bit as good as the classic lineup as a live band.

This is a hard one because there’s a lot of albums that have equal great songs and then there’s a few albums that have some mediocre tunes but have some really strong ones on there so they fit in a certain pile or category! A great band with brilliant musicians My number 1. Idlewid South- Exciting, subtle, reflective, expressive. In love from the first hearing. Their first album I bought 2.Debut- Hypnotic solos. Tempo changes, energy-rich bass and powerful two drum kits. The instruments unite their forces, a stunning impression. A lot of emotions. 3.Eat a peach- They showed how great musicians they are even after the death of one of the brothers. Great album 4.Seven Turns- Return in a big way. What an album opening! Fresh and full life. Warren and Dickey what a duo. Fantastic songs. 5.Shades of Two Worlds- Album as good as the previous one. They were in great shape. 6.Brothers and Sisters- Very good album. Feel a different direction of the group's sound and style but in a good sense. I like this album. 7.Hittin' the note- I didn't expect this album to be that good. Is fantastic. Back to their best. Great production. 8.Win Lose or Draw-A very strong start. Genius High Falls. The more I listen, the more I like it but you can hear that the air has started to run. 9.Enlightened Rogues- Feel the vitality, energy and determination. A really good album. A lot of emotion 10.Where it all Begins- Most consistency of all albums. Great rhythmically. It's pleasant to listen to. 11.Reach for the Sky- Is this the same band? A bit trivial album. I like From the Madness of the West 12. Brothers of the Road- It's hard to listen to this album.Has some interesting moments, some good guitar solo. PS. Thank's Pete for Allmans. What do you think about the ranking Dire Straits? It's hard to find something about them at your channel.
@PhilBaird14 жыл бұрын
Good overview that. Dire Straits made one of the great debut albums and the next two were solid before they descended into overblown stadium epics. It all started to go wrong when the brothers fell out. Mark's best playing is often on other people's albums. As much as I like his solo releases he's never recaptured the wonder of that first Dire Straits album and the majestic Sultans of Swing.

Hey Pete. I just wanted to speak up and encourage you for the outstanding job that you have been doing the last couple of weeks. With the loss of a highly significant family member, I wouldn't have blamed you if you took some well deserved time away from us. I would like to throw out a suggestion to you. Not all of us are "completest" and don't necessarily need a complete best to worst. For a band or artist that has a huge catalog, Like Elton John, I would settle for a top 10,15, 20 of your favorites, like you are doing with the Allman Brothers live albums. I would venture to say that a majority of us that subscribe to your channel are curious enough to possibly seek out what is not included if we enjoy an artist music enough. I guess I am suggesting, that it's your channel, we love what you do and continue to allow yourself to have the freedom to continue to have the freedom to present your passion without imposing rules for artists that you love, no matter how big or small of a catalog they may have. Just a suggestion. God bless.

Berry is playing bass on 'Wasted Words' and 'Ramblin' Man' and Lamar Williams plays bass on the rest of the tracks. All the others are well worth a listen and have some great stuff on them. I think the band were reborn with Warren and then Derek, and they were sensational in their latter years. I heard Revival on the radio in 1970 (real coincidence because I never heard it played again at that time) and went to check for the band at the local record store. They had a special sale - if you bought the album you would get the first album that went unnoticed in our country for a few coins along with it. When I came home I put on the debut first and that opening sequence of the Spencer Davis tune seguing into It's Not My Cross to Bear made me an addict right away. They remained on my top shelf ever since. Giants. 1. Allman Brothers Band (Just 33 minutes long and you would not want to miss a single second) 2. Idlewild South (Just 31 minutes long and you would not want to miss a single second) 3. Brothers and Sisters 4. Win, Lose or Draw (Their most underrated album) 5. Shades of Two Worlds 6. Eat a Peach (Their most overrated album, the best of it is on Fillmore and the rest sadly unfinished - I prefer the Vol 1 of the Duane Allman Anthology that has great performances he provided as a studio musicians to the stars of his era - I discovered a lot of interesting artists this way - just listen to Duane and Wilson Pickett taking Hey Jude into the stratosphere...) 7. Seven Turns 8. Where It All Begins 9. Enlightened Rogues 10. Hitting the Note 11. Brothers of the Road 12. Reach for the Sky Must have's - Dickey Betts' Atlanta's Burning Down and the first Great Southern album + Pattern Disruptive. Gregg's solo recordings (except for his Cher duet), he only very late received recognition as one of the great rock vocalists.

you ever get the 40th anniversary my brothers and sisters I know you got the deluxe edition of Fillmore you showed that before.. brothers and sisters has so many demos and studios and outtakes it's longer than the actual album 72 minutes..I'm glad to have that one too there's some really great extended jams and some cool songs instrumental a southbound before the vocals were added very cool you can also check it all out on KZbin by just putting in brothers and sisters Allman Brothers 40th anniversary deluxe and you can hear all the extra cuts...it's one that I am going to probably have to order again because I've burned through and worn-out disc two more than I've have disc 1 lol

My favorite Allman Bros album is At Fillmore East but this is studio albums. My top 2 have to be Eat A Peach and Brothers And Sisters. Dickey Betts is underrated. Glad I got to see them when he was in the band in 98. I know Eat A Peach has some live songs on it but the studio stuff is among the Allmans's best imo.

Having seen Betts a few times live, you are so spot on

Eat a Peach ranks higher than Brothers and Sisters, but other than that, you're spot on. the Doc of Rock has spoken. I still think of their first two albums as one album because I had the Polydor reissue of the two called Beginnings.

I'm with you on numbers 12 through 5, but my top 4 would be 4) Idlewild 3) Brothers & Sisters 2) Debut and 1) Eat A Peach, But let's be real, those top 4 are splitting hairs. Saw the Allman's twice in the 90's at Jones Beach, NY. The second time was the same day as Jerry Garcia's death. Those 90's Allman albums are excellent, "Nobody Knows" from Shades of Two Worlds is one of my all-time favorite Allman's songs.

...Pete has said, i think in one of his rant videos, that he just finds them all over the web/net and that he doesn't have a special go-to source...

Was a pretty big fan in the 90s early 00s but lost touch at that point. Own the box set, the expanded box of Filmore East and maybe 3/4 90s/00s albums. Great live band, was glad I saw them once with Dickey in August of 95 wow ! Merriweather Post Pavilion In Md, outdoor gig, sweltering hot and all I recall very vividly was these bikini wearing hippy chicks doing whippets on top of these traveling multi colored busses (think The Partridge Family !). I swear I was drunk, not high lol I’ve never been to a Dead show but that show felt very similar to what I’ve heard and read about Dead shows. They did a 25 min version of Whipping Post I swear !

I really like The Allman Brothers Band but the only album I had from them on CD that I listened to a lot was Eat A Peach. Unfortunately I don't have it anymore.

Always loved the Allman Brothers and their music. When Warren Haynes and Allen Woody joined in the early 90's, it really gave the band a shot of energy in the music. That being said, what are the chances are a ranking list of Gov't Mule studio albums?

Kudos for the "High Falls" shoutout. That song doesn't get nearly enough love. It's like if "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and "Jessica" had a baby.

Question to Mr. Pardo: Do you still play CD"s in your car, or everything that you listen to in it has been transferred to MP3 or a similar format?
@seaoftranquilityprog4 жыл бұрын
Yep, I still play CD's in my car, and around the house. I have a good chunk of them loaded in iTunes on 2 classic 160GB ipods for remote listening.

Good to know. I believed that I was the only one who still did (Ja, ja, ja!). Thanks.
