The top 5 should be either Stipe or Fedor number one and number 2, then Nogueria, and then you can take your pick of Cro Cop, Velasquez, Werdum and maybe JDS for the other spots. Mark Hunt and Heath Herring are good heavyweights, but should be nowhere near a top 5 GOAT list.

Greatest is about names and records and body of work, best is who would beat most fighters in a one on one fight regardless of record e.g You might put Ilia Topuria at number 1 for featherweight. You might put Dricus above Robert Whittaker for middleweight (not necessarily, maybe you think their fight was the one in three where dricus wins). I would like Lucas to make a best of all time list at some point (rather than this greatest list)

Beating Yan is nothing like beating Volk, Volk is a long reigning champion with wins over the two other goats of his division. Yan lost the belt in his first defense and lost the rematch, then got 50-45 smashed by Merab. You're cooked.

Yan only ever lost to Merab. He is more skilled than Volk too. Volk is passed his prime too. Beating him now is easier than you think. I think Arnold Allen would beat him. All the lightweight contenders beat him too. Volk was dominant because of his speed and movement. That goes with age

I think Dan Henderson could be in the top 5 of middleweight or LHW. At least in terms of resume. He beat Shogun twice. Wanderlei, Big Nog, Vitor, Rich Franklin, Bisping and did that in his late 30s till mid 40s. And he arguably won the second fight against Bisping.

Saying Islam's wins are better than Khabib's is certainly a take... Khabib faced almost everyone at their peak. Poirier (5 fight win streak, disregarded NC), Gaethje (4 fight win streak), RDA (5 fight win streak), Barboza (3 fight win streak), and McGregor (who was 9-1 with one avenged loss to Nate Diaz in a different weight class). The only other thing he could've done was beating Tony.

I really think you should rewatch GSP vs Hendricks, R1 is closer than most people remember. I personally scored it for GSP. R2/R4 were clearly Hendricks', R3/R5 were clearly GSP. So I disagree with you so casually calling it a loss, since you at least questioned the other close fights for other fighters here.

I dont understand why or how you consider Aldo was in his prime at 32 when he clearly wasn't. Jot every fighter is in their "prime" from 29-33. Aldo's prime was 100% before he was 32. The dude was already a champ for years and years by the time he was 27, he got into MMA and fighting much younger than most guys and had waaaaayyyy more fights than guys do nowadays. Some fighter peak early...just like some peak later in their career. You as an MMA fan should know this. Like how Volk started MMA later and therefore peaked later because he didnt have as many fights, injuries and everything else that fighters who start when they are young so

Performance-based rankings over W/L rankings is actually a good idea. It's pretty high effort though so I don't expect that there's enough knowledgeable people that could consistently debate that kind of thing. For example I think DP gained stock for his fight vs Islam. He clearly lost (was submitted) but I'm higher on him after than I was before
