As someone who was a cashier for MANY years, I'd be more for people bringing their own bags if ONE, the cashier station was actually built to support it (we bagged our customers groceries for them and the holders were designed ONLY for the plastic bags, making other bags a pain in the ass to use) and TWO, if people actually kept their bags clean. The amount of times I got bags that smelled like straight up cat piss was too damn many. 🤮

I remember when I was in Australia in 2006 they didn’t have plastic bags in most grocery stores. You had to buy reusable ones or bring bags of your own. We’ve been doing that in Canada for a while now too and I like it…. I don’t like that I own like 200 reusable bags because we forget to bring bags sometimes…. 😂

Yeah Australia introduced the reusable bags when I was a kid. Our car boot was full of them 😂 We have paper bags now too which are great if you forget your bags but it’s definitely a learned habit remembering to grab them before you go in. 😅

I have worked in retail sales/grocery stores for over 20 years. These reusable bags are DISGUSTING!!! People throw them in the car, covered in dog hair, baby puke on them, dirt from kids shoes, thrown in a shopping cart with bird poop on it, then it gets put on the checkout lane where people put their food. Not sanitary at all. The cashier then has to touch it and then touch the next person's food. Just nasty.

I live in California and after the 10 cent bags went into effect quite a few people used the reusables. But then the pandemic hit and they wouldn't let us bring them into the store, fearing contamination.
