As a former early childhood educator, most of these are meant for infant sensory and fine motor exploration. A lot of the toys we purchased for the children were ones we wanted to play with. Back in the 90s when slime wasn't popular I would make slime for a coworker who was having a bad day, sometimes we would let the children play with it. LOL

That pillow, from the first moment I saw it, I thought it was not originally meant as a fidget toy at all, but simply a toy for toddlers to learn motor skills, lacing the shoes, doing up the buttons, opening and closing buckles... but also their first numbers and the alphabet. I absolutely understand why it was labeled for toddlers rather than just a fidget toy, despite the fact that nothing stops anyone else from using it. I like the idea of using it for physiotherapy. But yeah, I don't think whoever created it ever thought it would be used as a fidget toy.
@LeeDee52 жыл бұрын
Yeah I saw it more of an educational type of toy with alphabets and numbers and learning to develop the fine motor skills too.

I think a lot of fidget “toys” provide more mental stimulation and can be a distraction sometimes. I think the colorful balls were more to provide a lighter, less engaging form of stimulation. I could see myself using the orange ball by absentmindedly feeling all the craters on it. Just depends on what types of fidgets you like.

oooh something you might want to check out are uh, I think they're called "busy books" or "quiet books"? They're made out of fabric, intended for babies/toddlers to develop fine motor skills. My siblings and I had one that a family member made, 40+ years ago. I uh, definitely played with it well into my teens. They're similar to the first sensory pillow in that each "page" (again, it's entirely made out of fabric) offers a different activity or tactile sensation. Lacing, zippers, buckles; things like lions with loose yarn manes you can run your fingers through, etc. Really simmers down the ol' brain bees. I guess the one thing about them is that you're probably more likely to find them from small makers, rather than mass produced.
@MikuruChan1232 жыл бұрын
The pillow was a blast from the past! I went to a Montessori school and we had a bunch of frames, each with one of those "tying" activities. There was one for zippers, one for tying laces, one for buttons...these are just a few I remember off of the top of my head. They were meant to teach us fine motor skills.

My sensory kiddo might like the balls to work on her skin? Hard to say. We have gotten her things like fidgets, weighted blanket, and a hug pod type burrito blanket. Personally, I liked the Owl pillow more than the square pillow, because it can also be used as an actual travel pillow (since the front is mostly flat and wouldn't hurt to lay your head against) and/or used as a little bag/case (thanks to the zipped pouch on the front). And also because it's an owl and I love owls. But both pillow versions look great.

The pillows remind me of an ernie (from sesame street) doll I had as a kid. His jacket had buttons and zippers. He had a belt, a watch band, shoe laces, and I think a velcro something. Everything came undone and you could re-tie and clip everything. I think having all that on a character is cooler than a pillow. They need to make them again.

Jackie! When you get tied bags, take one of the handles and twist it so that the plastic becomes twisted up tight, then push it through the knot. No more ripped bags!

I've seen pillows like that but for alzcheimer's patients, so it had more 'adult' things to do. If you liked the pillows, maybe you could try out a montessori board? It has a lot of activities as well.

I got goosebumps just hearing the crinkle wings. Loved the video.

Wait. I just realised something. Our Salty Overlord throws EVERYTHING on the floor. But Salty can bend her salty back enough to pick it up from the floor again. That means… Angels must be the one to clean it up. And that is why he always hits her. Everything makes sense now.

I'm laughing so hard at the 6-ball set. We have multiples of those at my library for the babies to play with and drool on.

I'm a seamstress and I've made some really similar pillows and "sensory aprons" (same idea, they're just sensory/motor toys on an apron) for a local assisted living facility, alzheimers and dementia patients really love them!

I like that pillow. And I bet you can mix and match the snapping buckles to create new looks.

My all time favorite objects are pillows. This excites me. I am hyperfixated on pillows.

Yeah that first pillow is Montessori. It helps children work on dexterity and also just learning about how to do buckles and the like. It’s a fascinating parenting/teaching method

I love the zipper/buckle etc pillow! I have ehlers-danlos syndrome and often dislocate my fingers & wrists, so it would be a fun addition to my physiotherapist exercises for helping my mobility & dexterity 😁

Hey Jackie you're great and I comment because I care. Those fidget balls are useful when rubbed palm to palm like a massage, as you mentioned . I also see it as a fidget toy when rubbed on thighs or knees. I've seen ppl fidgeting by constantly rubbing their knees. They were may enjoy the fidget balls.

I had a Banana in Pajamas toy that was similar to the pillow. It had buttons, zips, laces, snaps, and velcro to help practice motor skills. It was one of my favorite toys when I was a smol grain.
