I would have gone out and bought a new Henry Extra without this vid, now i might get another 10 years out of it. I ordered the brushes from these guys, speedy delivery and no drama .They took around 10 minutes to fit and most of that was in re-assembling the hoover. The brushes i took out had 10mm of carbon left on one and 3mm on the other so it was right down to the spring :) @ atrino My hoover just died like it had been switched off, there were no signs of a catastrophic failure like smoke, grinding metal or burning smells. With hindsight (and the new brushes fitted), i can now tell the hoover had lost suction power over time.

Can the brushes be a reason to cause the house electrics to trip and turn off....mine trips the house electrics just as it about to start ..hearing the motor for half a second

Two of the Henrys I use at work expired with an electric burning smell which I assumed was the windings burning out, in which case I thought it was either a new motor or vacuum short of rewinding it. But when the carbon brushes fail, do you get the same smell (in which case I can easily make this cheap repair?) Also, would it be possible to modify a Henry with a brushless motor and associated control circuitry to make one with a much longer life? And is rewinding within the scope of home repairs by someone with reasonable electrical/electronic knowledge, albeit as a robotics hobbyist? Note that both companies PAT test anything I fix, and my Vax passed just fine.

Just disassembled my Henry and I can see grease covering the connectors ? It doesn’t turn on. I’ve replaced the switch. What’s causing the mechanical grease everywhere?

Try replacing the PC board, the little electronics board inside.

What type and size screwdriver to open up to get to the motor? I can't see the screw heads very well. Is it cross slot/Phillips or Pozidtiv? Thanks!
