People are selfish and stupid. It's about consideration which is lacking. You're so right about people speeding up in the overtaking sections, and when that's gone they slow down again. It happens when I'm in the truck. I have a job to do and they're Sunday driving.

In my camper, I NEVER drive at the speed limit (well the highway speed limit anyway) as I get way better economy, it's easier on the vehicle, and altogether more pleasurable, HOWEVER I am fully aware of vehicles behind me and will pull over at the earliest opportunity to let them past as I know they'll be going faster than me. I get more waves of appreciation than middle fingers. ! Safe travels !! 🤠😎

I live in the Melbourne suburbs. Whenever I go on a road trip I know I am more cautious and slow on the country roads compared to the locals. Especially when I went on a road trip in the Yarra Valley. However Whenever there was a car behind me i always made sure to pull over where safe to let the driver behind me over take. Saves them driving right up my arse in frustration and saves me having the anxiety of having a car behind me and going a speed I'm not comfortable.

@gregf4170Ай бұрын
Got to say as a “city slicker” who moved to country the biggest offenders of your lists are locals. Most country people in western NSW can’t drive around corners. They go flat out 10ks over the limit, then slow to 90 because the road has a slight bend that’s not even sign posted. Basically most Australians have poor driving skills.

Old mate went eight minutes without hitting a Kangaroo or a Wallaby. Now that's impressive country driving. All jokes aside, you're making fair suggestions and offering good advice. Lots of idiots on the road. Nothing more annoying than somebody lazily sitting in your blind-spot all the way up until your lane ends. Likewise I can't stand people turning their indicators on at the last second. It's like they want an accident. Amen about slowing when you see red lights ahead. No need to rush all the way up and slam the brakes. Just stupid.
@Matt123aАй бұрын
Also, if you're towing and don't want to / can't do the speed limit, don't sit on the arse of another slow towing vehicle, who's sitting on the arse of the same. Most drivers who could pass your group huddle, wont, resulting in a country conga line. I can do 170kph to pass you all, but I'm risking a lot of lives and property because of your obliviousness. But I'm the bad-guy, right?
@JakeScully2054Ай бұрын
Yes. If you make that 170k move around the Conga line, yes you are that bad guy. You are making choices the same as someone jointing the Conga line. Something to bare in the back of your mind. A head on collision or a tree does not care if you are the bad guy or not.

There should be a limit on the time that these new, so called Australians can drive on an international licence. Then have to sit for an Australian driver's licence and be formally trained and tested. As for the BMW, Mercedes, and Audi drivers, it seems that they can't afford the repayments to have indicators. Or they are just entitled people who don't care about other people on the road. And people who can't drive to the posted limit on country roads. Man, don't get me started. I totally agree with everything you have said.
@paradiselost9946Ай бұрын
"sit for an Australian driver's licence and be formally trained and tested" thats part of the problem. our test is "stop at the red light before the white line" and " slow down when seeing any form of oncoming traffic regardless of what the speed limit is" along with "ignore the speed limit other than ensure you never go over half of it..." its not about defensive driving, its got nothing to do with how to control 2000kg of steel and plastic safely, or correctly, or skillfully... and 90% of these "driving instructors" shouldnt be... their signs arent even in the same language as the road signs. come up behind the typical "conga line", and inevitably, its some L plater at the front of it. no ability to use mirrors, or consider that other people may be wanting to use that road... theres one international license that SHOULD be mandatory... GERMANY. the only people that seem to know how to drive, besides drifters... whatever. everythings going to hell and it isnt getting any better.
@FunTravel-jm9ssАй бұрын
I hear ya, there are so many terrible drivers on the roads these days, I like to travel when no one else is around to avoid the dangerous dummies
@buster_1972Ай бұрын
Haha that sounded like me with these overtaking lanes. It so pisses me off when they speed up. And people don't know how to overtake any more. And these European vehicle's, there indicators are only there for look's. They don't have to use them. Oh and throw in these international driver's.

@retrozmachine1189Ай бұрын
HAHA, slow down so they will zip past. I can tell you straight that on the Peak Downs you will get a line of idiots sitting right up your arse in overtaking areas. It's clear they want to go fast but they just sit there fuming away. Occasionally when I've pulled heavy trailers and I know full well that I'm slow I give them plenty of opportunity to pass. Flick the indicator, wave hand, nothing happens. They just want to sit there and fume. If the idea of overtaking does finally sink in they'll do it right at the end of the overtaking lane and try to squeeze past inevitably having to cross the centre line. It's quite crazy but I've had it happen on more than one occasion.

Ouch…. Ant…. Someone must really pissed you off- I find German are best at driving hw FAST….great situational awareness- don’t put their ego behind the wheels… Asians are best at slow hi density traffic - everyone- they give each other room, so 2 vehicles will move forward in space design for one…. Aussies are best at being an enforcer- if they THINK you are too fast, they will purposely block your progress😂

Agree with most points, but as I got older I realized you can’t assume the worst when you come across a slow car. Might be a sick kid, elderly, somebody just missed their turn. Also, it’s not YOUR country road- you can drive a BMW on most roads in Australia, LC is overkill 99% of the time unless you’re going off-road later. Your message is lost a bit in your emotion. “Good driving” includes good emotional control and not assuming the worst or looking your temper - not just the hard skills.
@fastandloose3856Ай бұрын
@kdogauch Modern cars are more than capable of handling these roads and conditions. It's the common courtesy that a lot of drivers are lacking. As Anthony said if you can't handle our country roads, then don't drive them. Stay in the suburbs!!!
@paradiselost9946Ай бұрын
if theyre sick... they shouldnt be driving. if its an emergency, why the crawl? if they feel incompetent... they shouldnt be driving. if they are scared, or unsure... they can PULL OVER. missed a turn? then when they perform their u-turn, can they at least do it on a clear straight stretch of road when safe rather than say, just past a crest on a curve in a 90 zone? they dont stop to think about anyone else, or if what they are doing is safe, or sensible... noone looks in their rear view anymore... 'maybe that string of traffic behind me and flashing their lights and the people overtaking whilst sitting on their horns and gesticulating at speed signs are trying to tell us something..." instead its "oh no, road rage, hit the dashcam..." every day i go out, and every day i have several near misses, as yet another person on what i assume is an international license (more often than not bearing a small "uber placard") decides to either try for a right hand turn from the far left lane, attempts to change into my lane without any indicators, or taking a few moments to turn their head and look... then theres teh general slamming on of brakes, or inability to accelerate when leaving the lights, or even check that their tyres are inflated before heading out on that "scenic tour" at half the speed limit... all the while, staring at a phone.

i used to love just riding... who cares where... now? i cant stand it. crawling along at half the speed limit, the speed limit that is now half of what it was just five years ago... any overtaking lanes, they speed up, the merest hint of a corner and theyre slamming on the brakes, or better yet. tap. tap. tap tap. tap. roads falling apart, more development in remote places that shouldnt be developed, with no thought of infrastructure or where all this traffic is now supposed to go... more and more people utterly incapable of operating any type of wheeled vehicle, be it a pram or a shopping trolley... whatever... when you stop to think about it, our roads have only been around for 100, 150 years, and only been tarmac for 50 of that... they werent ever planned, or designed. theyre just random farm tracks, market roads,that have been built upon and built upon until theyre full, then theyre still built upon, built upon... begs the question... WTF is this all FOR? wheres the "golden future" they have been promising us for the last century or so?

This is a clown take. I have driven in every state and territory of Australia and in 10 different countries. I have also lived in cities such as Melbourne and Hamburg, and also in small country towns as small as 300 people. Country drivers are by far, considerably worse drivers than city drivers. Tasmanians are the worst, followed by Westralians, NT and SA. East coasters are better but nowhere near as competent as European drivers. Not even close.
