I Finally Watched Kung Fu Panda (2008) And It's Amazing!

Hello everyone. Its finally happening. I got Kung Fu Panda suggested too many times to count. I was hesitent at first since its not a movie that means that much to me personally. I watched it for the first time a few years back but it didnt really stick with me, so I decided to rewatch it last week, but this time I took notes and actually paid proper attention. Surprisingly, there isnt that much in regards to Kung Fu, but there's tons in regards of Chinese philosophy. I enjoyed breaking it down. I hope you do too.

It's a great movie and it's disappointing how many people just kind of write off as a kids movie. Also you should watch the commentary by the Director (Art director?) where they talk about the use of colour in creating the feel of the scenes and communicating the emotional state of the characters. It's too bad Kung Fu Panda 2 just shits all over the message of the first movie by being specifically about how Po was the chosen one all along.

The second one has literally one of the only moment in animated movies history when i can say : Damn that's fucking BADASS ! When Po stand on a roof and when he's face to face against Shen's armada. Heck they made a freaking peacock : threatening with an edgy design. Also that godlike music; i'm literally melting when i'm listening to it

They say How To Train Your Dragon was the best trilogy... but Kung Fu Panda is on another level. The characters, storytelling, visuals, action and Hans Zimmer's gorgeous score make these films so adoring to watch. About the whole dragons being used sparingly thing: it actually is used sparingly in the movie. The only place that's filled with dragons is just the Jade temple. And even then it's only a few parts of the temple. Specifically the parts related to the DRAGON warrior or DRAGON scroll which of course would have a lot of dragon depictions. The rest of the movie has little to no dragons.

I'll be honest, I am one of those people. I came across Ranton via his Shaolin videos. Naturally, I wanted to see more what he had to say, and while his reviews are occasionally funny and all have ENORMOUS effort put into them, they are not for me. I'm not one of those people who will dismiss them as "garbage" because I don't like them. It's just not a style that really resonates with me. It's too random, too chaotic. As someone in their 40s with ADHD and Autism, the pure, unbridled chaos of his reviews are like sandpaper on my brain. That said, I still watch them sometimes because if you filter out the "nonsense" (so to speak), the content, what he has to say, is well thought out, well worded and valuable because even if we might disagree on a game specifically, his insights are valuable.

My favorite thing about Kung Fu Panda is that when I watch the first one, I have to watch the next two. The quality does not drop. I dunno if I would say it gets better, but the bar was already high to begin with. They just keep nailing it. I believe they were supposed to be making 2 more to complete Po's journey. I hope they make them just as good. I can't say this about many sequels, especially animated sequels. They are just all so good! Each with their own lessons for Po.

I think a really cool aspect of this movie that wasn’t mentioned in the review is that the conflict between Oogway and Shifu is actually a debate between confucianism and daoism, in particular the peach tree scene. And it’s handled very well because neither one really wins out in the end

I think the point with Po’s style is that it is supposed to be unique. It is supposed to represent him. He uses his body to his advantage, the environment, and his opponents power against themselves. It’s derived from his fathers teaching that there is no secret ingredient. It is just you. Even shift tailored his teaching for Po in particular because he isn’t like every student he’s ever taught.

Aye. Which is probably why there isn't a comparison to Bear Style. Literally no one can be Po better then Po. He doesn't try to brutalise his opponents with incredible athleticism or speed, but rather takes his incredible endurance to take whatever life can throw at him and roll with it. He literally rolls down a mountain and use's his immense robustness and round shape to shrug all the damage off. It also speaks strongly to his character as despite the harshness of his training and the ridicule he faces from the 5 and his master, he continues to endure and be genuine in his love for martial arts.

Love the movies. It's one of those rare situations, when you get pretty decent sequels, similar to How to Train Your Dragon. I think the voice actors did a spectacular job especially Jack Black as Po. Great story, amazing animation, lots of fun for both children and grown-ups. I just want to mention something about the part with super powers and technique. Most of the people get too excited too easy and it 's not that very few believe in "magic techniques". When I was serving in the army, in the first days (let 's say something like bootcamp) there was a person that admitted he was practcing a martial art (I don 't remember the name). He told us that he could without much power, punch someone at the chest, and he will feel it in all of his body, while pushing him back. One person wanted to taste this punch and he said that it was true. And suddenly, the whole military base wanted to get punched. Of course I tried it as well, and somehow he made my whole body feel so smooth and felt that I lost control during that second of the punch. As I said people will always get excited with stuff like that. Poor guy though, he had to punch 400 people that day. Greetings from Hellas.

I watched a video about the impact kung fu panda had on China specifically I think even tho it's not technically accurate in some ways it's a simple story about a foreign guy who is in love with the culture and he wants to show that one of the responses to the movie was eye opening "why can't we do that" referring to showing love and appreciation to the culture of kung-fu

This movie is special to me because I could relate to Po so much when he couldn't get in to watch the furious 5. I was 7 at the time and I had traveled so far to get to the stadium with my parents just to realize our tickets weren't valid or something. And because we didn't have a lot of money, all I got from that trip was the red Chinese Olympics mascot as a plushie. I vividly remember there being 5 other mascot characters that matched the Olympics colors.

Kung Fu Panda is my favourite 'modern' animation, and all of its movies are fantastic. I can cry my eyes out with the score and the scenes and the lessons etc. It's just all in all something I would rewatch anytime

This isn't a "bear style" per say, but Yin Style Baguazhang, which has eight animal systems, has a "bear system" within it. So there is, at least to my knowledge, a precedent for bear based animal systems. Of course I doubt Kung Fu Panda based Po's fighting style on Bear style, but they may have had similar inspirations. And like you said, there may have been plenty of other bear systems invented in the north or the south, though I'd suspect they'd be a pretty recent invention.

Very nice video :) I would like to add some interesting info to the topic of pressure points 5:52 . I agree that pressure points are no secret kung fu technique to magically put an enemie to sleep, but there is something called "Dim Mak" or "Dianmai". These 108 nerve-points create a negative stimulation when pressed or punched and can be used to have additional control when grabbing an enemy or even temporarily paralyze some parts of the body with precise punctual punches. It's another question if it would be very effective in a real fight, but that's not always what kung fu is about

Very good coverage. The only other aspect of pressure points that i think are viable, are also strikes to muscle groups... ie. the dead leg effect from a powerful strike to the upper or lower leg. When the tissue is compressed against the bone it can create a contusion that can effect the nerves and muscles in the area alike making it not only feel painful or uncomfertable but also effectively numb and unable to take weight. If that makes sense, hopefully I'm explaining it well enough lol. It's essentially like "charley horse punch" you may ha e experienced on the playground as a kid. It causes both bruising and cramping and can feel "dead" or jelly like.

I used to love this movie when i was little but it doesn't have the same effect on me anymore tbh. I don't like the idea of being destined to be great while others (Tigress, Monkey, Mantis, etc) have worked for years or even decades to perfect their skills. Don't get me wrong, i love that Po works on himself and grows in more than just strength. The fight scenes and characters are amazing as well. I'm just not a fan of destiny, fate, prophecies or devine intervention guiding you to greatness.

But that doesn't change the fact that he was selected for that prestigious title before he even trained. And if i remember it correctly, the training he received was only a couple of weeks at most. 5 trained fighters combined failed to do what a random guy did alone, after receiving minimal training. Showing the results of self improvement and hard work is always positive message but not everyone's hard work paid off in this movie.

I love Kung-Fu Panda. As a Kung-Fu practitioner myself I find this movie inspirational and thanking you for giving your thoughts on this Ranton. Listen pressure points is something I have learned before so I know how hard it is explaining the science to people. That is a striking art not a paralyzing art. Some parts of the body if you strike them correctly, it may cause severe damage let's agree on that I hope. BTW I never understood why I am not a subscriber I am doing it now.

I will always love the Kung Fu Panda series as it's what got me into Chinese culture and Martial Arts as a kid and that's stuck with me ever since, plus it also has an amazing voice cast
