Yup, it's the accessibility and the rate of consumption, and even how anyone can be a critic or whatever via Twitter and TikTok that just lets things expire too fast. Every new project is an instant classic, then two months later it's "Who's still listening to that project", then 9 months later it's "Yo, we didn't know how good we had it, shit's mid lately". Late-stage capitalism has been a detriment to media as a whole.

Ion even think that rap is moving too fast, I think a lot of these people don't have staying power because they either: 1. dont evolve 2. suck as people 3. entire gimmicks are based off in the moment things The only person I see lasting maybe another 5 years that are recent is maybe like....Latto or something.

It’s because rappers aren’t artists anymore they’re products it’s easier for the labels to give us new plants every week and keep pump and dumping ice spices than take someone with a nice sound and develop them that’s too much effort when you can keep taking people from the underground with a buzz on TikTok or ice spices and get a quick buck

Why do you think people overhyped the Drake and Kendrick beef for so long? It's simply BECAUSE rap has been so stale lately. It's not that rap is moving too fast it just feels like that cause most of these new age rappers just talk about/do the same thing over and over again. Rap beef is the only thing that really moves people to listen to rap nowadays. that or some sneak disses. Like lets be real, unless its some real lyricist like J.Cole or some club banger rap song who is really gonna sit there and listen to this new age rap shit? 😂

I def feel like the internet accelerates a lot of things. It’s been almost 30 years since the internet came into existence, and now information moves faster than ever. Coupled with the next generation getting easier access to the web via apps and stuff. This shit effects music the most because one good hit off of a 25 second meme can launch you into stardom, but at the same time, you can also fall of very quickly bc ain’t nobody caring about you unless you have hard core fans. Also another person brought up how there’s more niches now, which I do think that’s a good thing, there’s really no monoculture though, you can find subgenres of subgenres with a click of the button. Rap, just like any other music, is going to evolve, people just aren’t looking in the places. Like yeah, if so many people do something, a lot of it is gonna suck, so you gotta find people who are actually passionate about their craft so you can get a taste of something different.

I actually think rap isn’t necessarily moving too fast, but that it’s moving too slow at the top and in overall sound, but too fast with smaller-medium sized artists. Like yeah new rappers come into the limelight and leave immediately. Meanwhile trap is still the dominant ‘new’ production style even thought it’s literally started it’s roots in the late 90’s-early 2000’s, and has not changed that much since the mid 2010’s - now a decade ago from us (feeling old yet?). Also the top, TOP guys are all guys who have been at the top since, again, like a decade or MORE. Drake, kendrick, Cole, Future, etc. This is like the worst possible combination for young listeners, because it feels like there’s a status quo that can’t be taken down, and that young possible innovators are swept away.

Everybody didnt have a computer, thats why mfs who did could make bread selling mix cd’s in school. also social media was primitive compared to now, there was no soundcloud, youtube was way different etc. Smart phones were blackberries and the early iPhone when it was exclusive tech, mfs was still having flip phones and shit. 8:55 I gotta disagree. I think outside of the reason that people cared so much about the beef because it was technically “drama” is because of the aspect of the music we got. We got to see Kendrick and Drake both drop some quality music back to back at a competitive level directly at each other. A lot of rappers nowadays don’t seem to have that drive or the technical skills or even the artistry to be put in those big 3 or A and B tier rapper conversations.

The current landscape of rap is what happens without artist development. I know it has been said so many times, but what I mean is that many artists are able to pop off of something that is only okay and don’t have as much (external) incentive to improve. Rap is where jazz was around this same time (50 years in). Capitalism has squeezed out the artistry. Quality music will come from those who are students of music AND are willing to develop slowly, most likely regionally. There is such a huge opportunity for the upcoming generation to build offline and underground. So little feels special only, but if you are an artist coming up that ONLY does shows in person (for a minute) and build that way, not only will you know how to move the people in person, you’ll learn to do it through your music. No more fast food. It’s going to take longer to get to where you want to be but your music will have a better chance at being timeless

Ppl have to start having standards when it comes to music. If someone comes into rap with jewelry and 200 thousand dollar cars, im not slapping em. If all they do is show off guns and gang signs in videos, its a hard pass. Anybody whos a actual criminal who isnt about growing up and getting out need to be hard blocked from consumption by anyone.
@franciscopereira4047
@franciscopereira4047 2 күн бұрын
You right. Like you said in the video rap is going too fast bc theres a lot to cover. Like any genre that has been around for long, it is going to develop a lot of different scenes/subgenres and bracnhes off until its dead. Even in the mainstream although it sounds the same, you have a lot going on like melodic rap, trap, ny drill, trap queen/ratchet, gangsta rap, abstract, boombap revival, jersey club etc, while in the underground you have dark plugg sexy drill, jerk, opium, pluggnb, rage etc, and there are still people making music on "dead" subgenres like cloud rap, emo rap, silgikore, phonk etc. And streaming only accelerated this process. Nowadays new artists find more success on cultivating an audience for a nieche sound rather than becoming mainstream, and thats because there wont be no new rap sound that gets mainstream bc people are just into different things bc of branching. Thats why you keep seeing the same artists.
@cilhav3n
@cilhav3n 2 күн бұрын
That bs is not the underground, the genre/subgenre is called underground music. The underground encompasses some of what you included in the former half of your post and likely comparatively larger when put together. That is just an absurd notion.
@franciscopereira4047
@franciscopereira4047 2 күн бұрын
@@cilhav3n I think i get what you said but what im saying is that there are waves that come and go fast in the underground. The current "underground music" is already very different from 2-3 years ago and even more so compared to the soundcloud days. The underground music scene leaves artists and fans behind that stick to a certain wave and branch off.
@cilhav3n
@cilhav3n 2 күн бұрын
@@franciscopereira4047 the other side of knows the danger in branding the genre into so many subcategories rather than each new manor of expression into something more nebulous like a "school". That will stagnate the genre fast because eventually everyone with be trying to fill a niche rather establish their own. Hard labels always ruin things even if just a little bit. Best analogy I have from before it became ok to posture as more underground than other people. That is just overcomplicating what should be as simple as "not mainstream". Why would this small subsection have priority over ever single other one?

@laudsarfo-e3c it’s the young people don’t want to listen rappers once they hit a certain age. It’s young people who don’t want to listen to jay z or nas and basically the industry replaces rappers with the new young rapper. Idk how old you are but at some point drake, Kendrick and j Cole are going to be considered “old school” to the younger generation and they’ll be listening to whoever the new young artist is. Meanwhile in other genres like rock and roll the artist can be 70 years old and still relevant to the rock and roll fan base unlike hip hop that has ageism and ready to throw away artists at 35-40

Facts, few rappers like say, JCole keeps me going cause outside of him and Kendrick, nothing much else is out there. Cole said they're the Big 3... and whether fanbase you align with, he was 100% right about it. FPS got people warmed up, the beef got them stoked. That's just the reality.

The mainstream acts have all been around for close to or well over a decade. Everyone below them either makes the exact same generic trap/drill/prostitution rap as all their contemporaries or they try and switch up their style every year without actually getting good at said style.

Also the whole dave blunts thing is just an example of how nowadays most people don’t care about if something is truly good, they just want something that keeps their attention and entertains them. I lowkey think people dont realize music even supposed to be good. Like it seems like they really dont care.

The drake v kendrick thing is imprortant in my opinion because it goes beyond jus rap beef. The fakest dude is at the top of the game, drake is inherently a bad person. It all ties into a deeper issue in the culture. I belive kendrick is coming at things from thst perspective

$uicideboy$ has only been around a little over ten years, and they really only hit their peak 6-7 years ago. So 2017-2018. They have no major record deal, and they definitely do have diehard cult fanbase that probably isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and will only continue to grow bigger and bigger in the coming years. I can see them eventually surpassing Drake.
