Man, I seriously love NF! I don't connect to all of his songs, but the songs I connect with are so real and hard. As a 36 year old, these are big boy lyrics. The way he expresses himself through his lyrics is how all men can aspire to try and communicate themselves through words. Especially when they're struggling with whatever mental health issues they are dealing this.

IMO the plane is a metaphor for his come up. In his song Destiny he talks about rap being something that he was called to do and he says, “My career about to take off, flight mode. You don’t like where we’re headed? What you sitting on my flight for?” The fact that he is sleeping and dreaming that the plane is destroyed is very true to his mental health journey. He has been very open about his tendency to be pessimistic and he doesn’t have any hope that his career will be what he knows he is made for. Then all of a sudden he wakes up and looks around and realizes his career is actually taking off.

The plane represents a look at his mind, and if you could look inside of it, what it would physically look like. That's why, in the beginning of the song, he says, "Let me get in that head space.

Rumor has it that this song was written on a flight back from a not so great meeting with some music executives who wanted him to change his style. NF responds by saying I am going to keep it real and let the chips fall where they may. The plane, in my opinion, is his career is taking off but there is turbulence. Every word is a response to those executive and the industry. Another clever line most people miss is "I'm on famous, I'm just Nathan" is a shout-out to Nathan's Famous Dogs. As for a Clouds level song I would check out Paid My Dues which is a response to a poor review from Rolling Stone music critic for The Search album.

This is a great track from NF, of course it's open for interpretation, but my take on it is he's coming at all the haters for his rapping style and content. One thing most people can agree on is he doesn't follow the usual formulas, which he encapsulated with "Real". It's a great insight into his feelings about the music industry, who repeatedly dismissed him or tried to change his approach as it didn't fit the usual mould. NF has previously said without god there's no purpose, I am paraphrasing, but it was along those lines, so when he says the bar "If God ain't real, real isn't", that's NF saying, I gonna do what I know because in God we trust. Peddle forward seven years, and he wasn't wrong as he's now a successful artist in his own right and "Motto" demonstrates that beautifully too. As for the video I could be completely wrong but I take it as a metaphor of his career, in his dream state, he's crashed but when he wakes and realises he's on a plane, he settles in because it's about to take off. That's what I love about art, it's all subjective and we can all take different meanings from the same piece .

Clouds as far as the song goes isn't in my top 10 nf songs, the video is legit though. If you want some banger tracks with good videos. Why, Lost, Hope, the search, warm up is a one shot but not as cinematic.
