This was the most casual review ever, like talking to someone over a couple drinks about video games. Good stuff!

I miss those old Trophy Bass 3D games on Windows PC. They had the best quick play, no progression, no missions, no whatever, you set up a rod and lure and drive a boat around and catch fish, that simple. It had like 42 or 43 types of fish too. I’d give anything for that exact game to be remade with new graphics, it only had like 32 bit PS1 style graphics, but the lakes were to scale, you could fish entire lakes like Dale Hollow. I hate the need to do imputs, TB3D had the best tension based system where you could reel or drag or just let off, no stupid imputs. You could make it as realistic as u wanted too, you could make it to where the shadows of fish appear on top the water or turn it off, you could see the fight underwater or not, I loved it

picked this up half price in the EU sale... its OK for short burst fun - checked your video out before I bought it and generally agree. Do think its strange they implemented motion controls for the boat but none for the casting / reeling action. Guess its because its a port and the motion controls on those sections would likely completely change the game's difficulty (one way or the other).

I just bought this game because I realized my work had it on clearance for $9, and I wanted something different for the Switch that would also incorporate some motion controls. I only played about 10 minutes of it and I was not impressed. I'll give it more time, but I don't understand how Ocarina of Time, a game from 1998, still has a way more fun, addictive, and deeper fishing *mini* game, using purely visual cues over these elaborate interfaces, than some of these newer, focused releases.

Thats because this is going for realistic fishing and zelda was not. If you fished in real life you would most likely like this more
@southpaw1174 жыл бұрын
@@Bruh-wk5tz Sure, the general approach to fishing may be more realistic with the different lures, equipment, locations, and actions you can perform, but the core gameplay is nothing more than following UI cues. Just look at some of the actions you have to perform during the different stages of catching a fish. I mean, following quick-time events to attract fish? Keeping the fish within an arbitrary grid to gain bonus reel-in speed at the tap of a button? No real visual clues as to how the fish is moving relative to your position besides a distance meter on the bottom? No close-range final struggle, just move that UI element to the left of the screen and the fish is caught? Is that what you consider realistic fishing? In Zelda, it was all about learning how to wiggle the lure properly to invoke interest, controlling the rod in all sorts of different ways to ensure the tagged fish doesn't break free, and you still have to consider the right time of day in order to be the most effective. If you were to completely disable the UI in Rapala, would it still be as playable? Zelda uses zero UI cues to tell you how well you're doing. It's all in the visual performance, in the controller's feedback, and your skill to combat the fish's struggle. Its fishing is immersive to me as a result and I could easily lose track of time trying to catch bigger and bigger fish. Rapala is like playing DDR x Fatal Frame and I quickly lose all interest after the first catch or two.

I only like fishing games where you can see the fishes battling underwater, while reeling in. I liked the Konami Bass games on the PSX, the Rapala game on the 360 with the fishing controller and now this on the XB1 and the Switch.

Nice review. I think I can live with the ugly graphics, since the game looks enjoyable. I use to jam Championship Bass on the PS1 back in the day, so looking for something perhaps similar to that, and this is on sale for $5 at the moment, so it’s a easy buy
