Yeah I was surprised he didn’t get the death penalty, especially in Florida. The death penalty has some major flaws though. It’s very costly because of the length of time that offenders stay on death row before their execution. Usually between 15-20 years. And the amount of appeals and hearings etc amounts to a lot of money. You could argue that a person should be executed swiftly, right after the sentence is handed down. But, you also see stories about wrongful convictions where an innocent person is scheduled to be executed. Since 1973-2019 there has been a total of 165 such cases. Idk what the right answer is, I agree with the death penalty but I also wish us tax payers didn’t have to suffer for how the whole process plays out.

I'm atheist and pious attitudes + thinking from religious folks do little to make me believe in any religion. Often make me dislike religion even more. But it is sometimes the most deplorable behavior that makes me think maybe there is a god and a satan. If a college guy and gal are drunk and having sex and then the woman says 'stop' and the guy keeps going..... well that is wrong. But I can rationalize the behavior. It is like he lacked any form of empathy but more than that, actually enjoyed others suffering. In other words, it seems to be pure evil. A concept that really only exist in religion.
