My favorite part about strong chess players is they think they know what the audiences want. Just because they are a bit bored with playing classical..they go out and proclaim "casuals" would rather watch blitz etc.. Its hard for regular folks to follow the play of a slow game.. you think making the games 5 minutes help that? LOL. Its pretty obvious there is an agenda being advanced by these top players

Nope. STOP THIS NONSENSE. Chess is the classical format. Rapid and blitz are dumbed down versions for us to have giggles and fun. The current generation of players is just preemptively refusing to pass the torch to the next, younger generation. They are pushing for rapid and blitz as main events, because it is the only way in which they will be competitive at the top level in about 10 years. Sorry guys. I admire Fabi, Magnus, Nakamura, Aronian, So, and the rest of this generation. But they have to follow the example of all previous greats of the game: Once you cannot compete in classical anymore due to age, step aside honorably and let the new generation take over. I don't see tennis greats like Djokovich and Nadal trying to make a push for padel or ping-pong to replace tennis just to be able to fight for championships in their late 40's. Don't fall for it people.

Greats of the game sure but they all will be broke and chess will simply have no audience. Especially with all these modern engines it's so difficult to Actually get a decisive game. Whereas i agree classical should never be gone it is as you said the history of chess. Every single legendary player has defined himself/herself through that, rapid and blitz is simply much more entertaining and fortune generating which would probably help classical as well.

Rapid and blitz can be entertaining . But it loses the chess content in many ways. We cant follow all these games and moreover the games are over in 15 minutes. Not ideal for chess 😂

What do you want? Follow all the boards? You can always see videos of exciting games in reviews. Imo rapid is the perfect balance of everything

Yep classical >> speed chess. Top chess players should stop assuming that fans want more speed chess, when the raw numbers speak a different story. The big classical tournaments garnered more viewership than any of these big speed chess events.
