"Rapid," composed by Chok Kerong, was commissioned by Brahmastra Arts House for River of Life: An Intercultural Odyssey.
About "Rapid":
From a distance, river rapids may seem predictable and calm, but up close, they reveal turbulence, danger, and immense power. This composition reflects that duality-where destabilizing rhythms underscore the melody, while cyclical basslines and percussion provide balance. In the final section, this relationship flips, with the melody acting as the anchor, as the rhythm section creates tension and instability.
Performed by the NP Collective, this piece was part of the River of Life concert at the Esplanade Recital Studio, supported by the STart Fund (National Arts Council - Singapore) and Sands Innovation Fund.
