"This episode is unique in that it’s perhaps the least Zone-y on paper. There’s no supernatural or even the least bit Sci-Fi-y to this, the premise could happen in real life and nothing too wild comes up in the end. Yet it still feels like an episode as we still have that sort of writing and pacing, plus it still has a twist ending. It’s a fun premise but it could have been better. It takes a bit to get going and we don’t get as much of the guy struggling to do this as I would have liked, or as much of the other guy trying to get a rise out of him. But what we get is enjoyable and both are equally unlikable yet slightly sympathetic in their own way. The twist is rather silly but I kind of loved it, it was unexpected and wild. So overall ,mixed but generally an okay one. Plus it’s basically the better version of A Thousand Words!"

The bet was meant to show the strength of will of one man, while the reward was dependent on the honesty of another. Both of them gambled on themselves, but the first man was a cheater while the second was a liar. In the end, all the bet did was silence a smarmy motormouth and expose a self important fraud. They were both trying to prove that they were a better man than the other, when they were both lowlifes in their own ways. Gambling is a risky venture, and you might lose more than you bargained for, especially when the bet is made in the Twilight Zone

Well another James Rolfe TZ best episodes from his top 10 crossed off the list. Unlike the other silent TZ mute, The Silence is absolutely fantastic. The premise alone is just wonderful betting a man named Tenneson that doesn't know when to stop talking. The tension is just wonderful between the two with Archie trying to make sure he breaks Tenneson like telling him how the outside world has been wonderful or his wife supposedly cheating on him. If that wasn't great and intense the twist is really well done with both ending up paying for their cheating ness. (Of course it's debatable who got it worse). But yeah the silence is definitely golden in the Twilight Zone.

Well, he told nobody about it & he covered it up to fake being able to rely on his own patience in order to look good. Maybe not cheating, but a fraud pretending he was skilled.
