Rapid Refill Mugs at Disney's Art of Animation Hotel at Walt Disney World Resort

Just grabbing a bite at the Art of Animation resort hotel and using my brand new RAPID REFILL MUG to get some liquid refreshment for my meal.
Here you'll see an example of the mugs being used and the image of the liquid filling up in the mug indicating that you are only allowed one full refill at a time. Meaning there's a few minutes wait before you can refill again. Once the image of the mug is full of liquid you're at your "refill".
This practice eliminates people who come in and fill up mugs from home or jugs or the idea of buying one mug for a family and then attempting to get refill after refill to fill other cups brought from home or at the parks.
This is pushing for everyone to have their own mug. At first it comes off as a problem but once you're there and using it, buying a mug for the duration of your trip only makes sense if you're after "powerade" or "soda".
Water, tea and coffee are still free for your mugs and cups brought from home. Those are FREE and unlimited with no restrictions BUT Disney can change this practice at any time. Hot Chocolate should be free as well year round but don't quote me on it.

aww, that sucks that Disney is starting to hammer down on their refill policy :/ i never really refilled alot. but its gonna suck for alot of other people. I got a question though, how do they know it your computer exactly. I mean i saw a person refill a normal cup before you pulled out your "rapid refill" cup. do they have sensors or something?

Yes they do have sensors. The mugs and the paper cups have RFID sensors on the bottom. The mugs have them built inside the mug while the paper cups have them glued on. If you buy a paper cup at the dining area you are allowed 3 refills on a paper cup. Mugs have unlimited refills of course but the sensor is smart enough to know when a "refill" has been distributed. The more ice you put in a mug or cup doesn't always mean a "refill". It's the amount of measured liquid coming out of the dispenser. For example, if you fill a mug and the image of the mug on the screen is at 90% and the next time you try to fill the mug up you only have 10% liquid left to complete your "refill". After it stops it will give you a time limit when you can return to the drink station to refill again. Usually it's only about 2 minutes and seconds. It's takes a few tries to learn it while you're there. I forgot to mention that the paper cups refills are given a time limit of "within the hour" so you can't buy a cup and then use the "refill" another day or later in the day.

What you use to be able to do is take your mug if you were resort hoping for dining reservations or just events held at hotels and you could refill your old mugs anywhere but now you are only able to fill your mug at your resort. So there's no point in people taking their mugs to the parks or to other hotels because it is useless and just a pain to drag around everywhere.
