A really enjoyable review, thanks very much. As an Aussie, I’m used to Australian outline RTR models costing about twice what a similarly detailed British would cost in the UK, so it’s refreshing to see a review that doesn’t have the reviewer fixate on how expensive the reviewed model is. Everyone is different, of course, but I find your reviewing style to be informative, balanced, and well-detailed. Cheers for that.

@@MattsScaleModels thanks Matt. I've heard that RTR models in Aus and mainland Europe can be quite a bit more expensive than in the UK. Think we've just been a bit spoilt here. Hornby have put their prices up again, which I'm not happy about, but I think that's to help address the recent poor financial performance.

@LittleWicketRailway it's all about having a big enough market demand to make large runs worthwhile. Our RTR manufacturers make lovely models, but it's fairly normal to produce only 50 of each main variant. This sometimes means that certain variants sell out really quickly, but it's hard to guess which will sell quickly and which will hang around. I'm working on 3D modelling, so I can print the obscure stuff that fits my era. Thanks again, I'll look you up on Patreon and see you there.

I can confirm that the tender wheels do have power pickup too. If you put the tender on the track without the loco it makes all the sounds except the chuffing noises of the loco running as the ESU Loksound decoder relies on the motor back EMF for the timing.

Thanks for confirming:-)

I brought this train pack and am very pleased with it, I run dc only and was presently surprised the the sound of the loco pulling away and chuffing and brake squeel as it stops, I have converted a old loco into 1401 and was unable to obtain a buffet car so brought a br brown wisbeach one took it apart and re sprayed it into the blue and red and the railings white
@LittleWicketRailway3 ай бұрын
Which model did you convert into 1401? Nice work with the buffet car.

Thanks. The layout build had stalled, but I've quit my job, so now I've got some time and progress will be made!

can you take the coach off the flatcar?

Don't think so.

I love this movie, and I would LOVE to own this set. A shame that at this price there are problems like derailing stock. Sadly for me, that price, converted into New Zealand dollars, plus shipping, means I'll just have to be content with wishful thinking!

A DVD of the film should have been included in the deluxe version at the money they are charging. Even then it would still be far too expensive for such a niche set.
@LittleWicketRailway3 ай бұрын
That would have been a nice touch, but I bet most people buying it probably already have a copy. I do.
@andrewstevenson54493 ай бұрын
Thanks for that. Not something I'm interested in, but seems a fun little set, though with a couple too many issues for the price. E.g. really odd that Rapido thought to put a magnetic roof on the brake van, but not on the house-wagon which has much more interior detail.
@LittleWicketRailway3 ай бұрын
Exactly, Dan's house could use the magnetic roof. Someone showed me the results after fitting a Hornby lighting strip and that improves things a lot
@petersmith44553 ай бұрын
hi there,great video,unfortunaly its too expensive for me, i have a similar theme with my Caledonian pug with two coaches and a toad brake van set some where in scotland.
@Keith-nm3uf3 ай бұрын
why is a coach on a flatcar?
@slimetank3943 ай бұрын
Haven't watched the film but Maybe the context is in it? Maybe they built it from random almost functional scraps to keep the budget down?
@LittleWicketRailway3 ай бұрын
It's part of the film. They need a coach and the only one available is being used as a house by Dan. So they move it onto the loriot Y wagon.
@PlatformONE3 ай бұрын
No wonder they haven't been selling. At the moment, that's almost $788 manufacturer's price. & around $620 for a retailer's price.

I bought this set in the us from Hattons (rip) and once you take off 20% vat add 25 post, I got it 55 cheaper than retail. Still expensive but cheaper than you can buy in the uk.
