Most Budd cars in HO are pretty generic where it's just one or two base models that have just about every roadname you can think of slapped on them. But this one is nice since it was made to look the way the Santa Fe had them, where they have the Mars/gyro light and other unique details to the real Santa Fe versions of them. Great job on the Santa Fe Budd cars Rapido!

I noted the BC painted big red barn wit the draper taper, is this a tease for your next prime movers by Rapido item. Smile. Great layout i would like a long video of that layout. Once more I have 3 of your RDCs and love how well you did them. You may have a big advantage in dealing with China being located in Canada. Your making an asperational product and its very special but expensive. The level of Road specific details is very well done as you might desire for an asperational product.
@railvidoer6 жыл бұрын
The BC Rail unit is a General Electric C40-8Ms which Rapido offers in their Prime Mover line. It's close to an SD40-2F Red Barn which GMD produced at London, Ontario.

I just hope they decided to make another modern Amtrak loco and some Amtrak cars to go with the the NPCU.

When these were released, did they have onboard capacitors in them? I ask because when I put my pair on the track after being in storage for a couple months, they seem to want a few minutes to have a cup of joe and wake up before they're ready to run. But once they're ready, they're incredibly smooth. I Also want to thank you guys again for the assistance in obtaining my set after my dealer got stiffed by his supplier!! Your customer service is top of the line, just like your products. (Not a shill, just a very satisfied customer.)

Thanks for the kind words! We didn't include capacitors with these models at release so it's hard to say why there would be some hesitation. Okay; over the past several years I have purchased over 91 RDC's all Proto 2000 except my Rock Island 9003 and Rapido 6133 from "RAPIDO". I have converted over 47 RDC's to DCC/Sound and sold most of those. My main line is Rock Island and I still have a couple of them to convert. However the most I have to convert are various lines. Why do I mention any of this you ask? Because I am a large user of ESU Decoders and your RDC's have the ESU decoder with the best RDC sounds available. Now I also have the Scale Train Museum Big Blow with the ESU decoders and love the sound. Especially the wheel squeal. Now being a member of the Model Train family Scale Train shared its unique wheel squeal sound with ESU for all of us to use. I personally have installed over 37 of those decoders in both Athearn and Lionel Gas Turbines. Sold most of them and kept a couple for myself. So my brother; why have you not shared your Unique RDC sound with us? Why not allow ESU to sell decoders with your excellent sounds. Thousands of RDC'd are out there and I for one will not throw mine away just to buy yours. Just doesn't make $ sense. Your RDC's have features that distinguish them from all others and if I see another Rapido Rock Island RDC I will most likely buy it, but even with all the features I install in mine; just doesn't compare with the Rapido. Besides the price differences it's just not competitive. Lets share, shall we? I would purchase over 40 of these decoders myself in a heart beat. I use my friends at Mountain Division. A Fan. Love your video's by the way, kiss, kiss!
@rapidotrains5 жыл бұрын
We were selling RDC decoders through our web site but we've had trouble getting blank decoders from ESU. We're working on this now and you will be able to order them again soon.
@choochoo39855 жыл бұрын
@@rapidotrains Great. I order my ESU 58420 decoders loaded by Mountain Division and assume those are the decoders you require. So can I order on your Web Site?
@choochoo39855 жыл бұрын
I looked on your web site, but do not see a place to order the decoder. PS; I did find another RI RDC-3 today on E Bay and purchased a Rapido Trains 16627 HO Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Budd RDC-3 Phase Ib Diesel. That makes 6133, RI 4003 and RI 4002, next will be RI 4004. Can only afford one at a time.

Great video and Uber Great detail, Rapido!! Extremely Well Done!! My only "complaint" is with HO scale railroading "In General" and ONLY where engine sound is concerned. I know Rapido put in some time recording the actual sound from those "georgeous" twin 6-110 Detroit 2 cycles, but it's all "lost" when utilized on the actual scale models... sadly. The sound needs more "depth" to it... it's all sound too "tinny" and as I noted previously, sounds like it's eminating from a tin can, and it's thoughout ALL of HO scale railroading.... with the exception of a few custom built sound systems that are imbedded throughout the "road" itself.... some have absolutely amazing depth of sound - SO realistic. The commercially available sound decoders/systems actually are quite true to the "real" locomotives, and have certainly made great strides in realistic engine sounds, but much work needs to be done in the area of speaker technology to bring more "depth" of sound and get rid of the "tinnyness". Perhaps they should get together with BOSE sound systems (Framingham, MASS.) they're world renowned for producing tremendous sound reproduction with great depth and clarity out of very small speakers, as most people know.... might be worth looking into it with them. Keep up the Excellent work, Rapido.... your a breath of new and fresh HO Scale air with your incredible attention to detail. Great things are coming from the north.... outside of cold air!! ; ) PS..... I have a Dimension 5 BOSE sound system on my pc with sound reproduction that is beyond words.... but what engine sound I could hear eminating from these beautiful Budd RDC's was very disappointing.... the "idle" sequence was true to real, but again... no depth to it, too "tinny" sounding, and also did not hear any real throttling up of the engines to hear what they would sound like at "higher rpms".... although I know most (if not all) of the "real" 6-110's governors were set for 1800 rpms max (they worked much better at 2100 - 2300 just like the series 71 engines) when utilized in the RDC's and Genset applications.

You should have no reason to use Full Throttle with an RDC. The load is constant. You don't haul a heavy load.... However, by playing with "straight to 4" you can mimic the full throttle effects. See it done here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGW4mIGXi86db5o
