I sometimes question the labs as well. I mean the controls in the lab have to be spot on as well to get accurate tests.

Excellent Presentations and very thoroughly described and explained in depth. My local County Agent’s Office does a Soil Test for $10 and the results are very detailed. Since Nitrogen is likely to be soil element that could be depleted by heavy plant intake the Rapitest Nitrogen Test seems to be a good deal.

You correct for any color in your soil water. If you water already has color it would impact the test result unless you correct for it.

This will be our first time testing our soil. We have noticed our harvest suffer over the past few years although we add compost every season. Due to the current situation we are in with Covid-19 we have decided to use the Rapitest soil kit over a lab. I do have one question. In the video you say to take multiple scoops of soil and put them in a bucket. Wouldn't you want to keep soil scoops separate if they are from different areas of your garden? Any advice is welcome. Robert hank you for this informational video! It was by far the best produced and easiest to follow. My fiancee and I look forward to reading your book Soil Science For Gardeners. Happy 2020 season! - Mark in Milwaukee
@Gardenfundamentals14 жыл бұрын
You can do it either way. Even if you want separate readings for different areas it is a good idea to get several scoops from one area and mix them up before testing. This gives a better average.

2:55 Salt?? why not use bentonite clay? Salt will add more desalved salts to the test.
@Gardenfundamentals14 жыл бұрын
everyone has salt, but almost nobody has bentonite and the salt adds sodium, which is not being measured
@brianlink3914 жыл бұрын
@@Gardenfundamentals1 Oh yea, I use to use a PPM meter. Obviously chemistry works on a different principle. Bentonite clay is cat litter. Well the $1 cheap kind. But not everyone has a grinder so. :-)

The Rapitest that you held up at the beginning of this helpful video included a test for PH. Was the ph test not included in this comparison?

I've got the same question, why recommend this product? Is there a kickback or something. We know that 1 test is correct, one is badly wrong, and the third has no comparison. 1 out of 3 hardly rates a stamp of approval.

I am not recommending it. It is a product review, which means I give you straight answers about it. All I got was a free kit to use for the video.

@@kinjunranger140 Saying something is the best choice for a home test flirts with recommending, especially when not comparing it to other products who may have tested K properly. I was stumped when I heard that. If I go treating my yard for a K deficiency when it was perfectly fine then I may wreck my whole garden. As soon as I saw the test difference vs lab the product was a complete fail in my book and is not even up for consideration. I too trust the lab result given they provide PPM.

I don't see how you can endorse this product. You showed three tests and compared the results to a lab test. Comparison 1 was invalid because the lab gave no result to compare to. Test 2 agreed with the lab, while Test 3 disagreed greatly. You even said you believed the lab. So that is one agree and one disagree out of two tests. You must be getting a kickback.
@Gardenfundamentals13 жыл бұрын
If you wat the video you will see that I don't recommend the test. It is a product review - not a product endorsement.
