"That was the longest recap ever!" ... So there's this anime called The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It's a great show, one of the most famous anime of all time, has probably the most famous non-opening anime song of all time, and is just in general a very good show. HOWEVER. It is also home to BY FAR MOST **INFAMOUS** ARC IN ANIME HISTORY. "The Endless Eight" is basically a string of 8 episodes in the anime, and it's basically the exact same episode repeated 8 times because the characters are stuck in a time loop, with only 2 scenes being changed per episode. One scene near the middle where the MC learns how many loops have passed. The number gets progressively bigger before finally ending on 8,768 in the final episode of the arc. And the last scene of each episode where the MC tries desperately to think of other ways he can stop the loop before finally succeeding in the last episode of the arc. Other than those two scenes changing somewhat with each episode, the episodes are 100% the same. The Endless Eight is, to my knowledge, the only arc of an anime dedicated to recaping the exact same episode point for point multiple times in a row. And the source material wasn't like that. The light novel only showed the final loop. The anime studio decided to go "fuck it" and made over half of an anime season be the same damn episode back to back for 8 weeks in a row. That's where the infamy really comes from. Imagine you toon into the same show every week expecting something new only to get last week's episode again with little to no variation. Eight times in a row. That shit would get to anybody. All that said though... I do like the Endless Eight. As a weekly anime, that shit stung. But as a work of art and an experience, it is TRULY one of a kind. At its core, it's the most literal interpretation of feeling hopelessly trapped in a suffocating comfort zone qnd the accompanying fearful hesitation to leave it behind.

picking up the bones post cremation is a very VERY common post-death ritual for japanese people. think of it like how in the western world a family might carry the casket of their loved one before burying it. in japan its super common to cremate the body, and the family will themselves transfer the bones and the ash apart into the urn. this is the only time its socially acceptable to pass something from person to person between chopsticks, and the fact itadori is doing it alone is super sad. sure it might seem a little morbid but its a very normal cultural practice and in my opinion really shows love and respect for the person who's passed
