They didn't split when Ren got sick. Ren's been chronically ill and in 24hr pain, from the age of 19. At his worst he was bedridden and in such chronic pain that he couldn't get any proper sleep, for the best part of 7 years! It was about a year after that period that Ren and Romain became flatmates and the Big Push was formed. Ren remains chronically ill and in 24hr pain. He recently suffered a major relapse, that left him bedridden again and in unbearable pain. He was blinded for a while, due to a severe autoimmune reaction in one of his eyes and came close to being permanently blinded in that eye! Even during his better periods he is dealing with more than many people could bear. His daily routine involves IV drips, an electric current being passed through his brain and bucketloads of medication. His autoimmunity also makes him highly allergic to virtually all food, which means he has almost exactly the same meal, every single mealtime, breakfast, lunch and dinner, 365 days a year. He has permanent damage to his body and brain. He has a whole host of debilitating symtoms including chronic fatigue, frequent brain fogs, permanent pain, especially in his legs, 'snowy' vision, constant muscle twitches, insomnia, lots of side effects from all the medication etc etc. Ren has Lyme disease, bartonella, MCAS, neuropathy, severe autoimmunity, adhd, ptsd, chronic depression and too much stress can trigger chronic anxiety and panic attacks. The fact that he does what he does is really quite remarkable! As for the Big Push, all parties involved have expressed a desire to work together again but getting everybody together again, at the same time, has proven difficult, though Ren and Romain remain close and have continued to work and perform together. Gorran is slowly busking his way around Europe and Glenn has been settling into married life. I'm pretty certain that a reunion will happen, though in what form and when, remains unknown.

Ren was a big fan of Sting. The original was written about the writer Quentin Crisp. Other Big Push songs you might like to react to Bongo Bogo, Precious & Dignity. Same lyrics.

Thank you. That was fun ♥♥

Ren was still with Trick the Fox when he was getting sick, one of the reason busking was his main avenue to perform for so long was that he couldn’t predict when he would be well enough and could just head out or meet up with other buskers in his short windows of feeling a bit better

They split up because Ren was moving to Calgary for lengthy medical treatment for Lyme and his autoimmune disease as well as the brain damage from yrs of being misdiagnosed. He spent 18 months there. Also while Ren was playing with the band he was putting out music for his solo career.

TBP was activ from 2017-2022, formed the year after Rens first stamcelltransplantation, wich was the same year (2016) he finaly got the right diagnose.😊

Ren said they did not break up only because he was going to Canada. He said they were all ready to move on. They do all love each other & Ren hopes they can arrange a reunion. He & Romain have performed together several times since his return from Canada.

This was originally recorded by the Police, and Sting was a member of the band. I think Ren skipped a verse, but otherwise the lyrics are as originally recorded. REN’s voice may be similar in range to Sting’s. Try “It’s Alright” by the Big Push - an original.

I'm ambivalent on solos. It gets boring when it feels like a musician is just showing off that they have technical skill or can play really fast or whatever. But the solos here aren't like they - they are really expressive and integrated into the feel of the song. The best solos feel like a conversation between the soloist and whoever is comping for them. If you aren't already familiar and want to see some incredible musicianship and communication, check out Snarky Puppy - Lingus.
