Yeah but some of them are being pretty harsh on Tupac. That guy was certainly a genius, just not in the skilled rhyming sense. Some of the tracks he made are more timeless than the vast majority of rap records. I'd even say he's the closest thing to rap's version of Bob Marley.
@toxicbreez42772 жыл бұрын
@@DirtyJamesUK this conversation is about lyricism, technical ability. Pac was a poet, he had powerful music due to his philosophy, and his content/substance is what made his music great. But he wasn't spitting bars, and didn't have super intricate rhyme schemes. There is nobody that has better skills than Em on a mic. Your point about top 5 lists is right though. Everybody's top 5 is always who they like most. I strongly feel if there wasn't an issue with his voice being no longer functioning as it did he would still be as "mind Blowing" as was from the gate. With all due respect his Helter Skelter regardless how he sounds is lyrically hard as pfuk and DOC is a beast with how he came with it for sake of all the fans and to show he could still do it. Personally when I listen to it being I'm such a fan of the man hear in my head how it would be sounding as he sounded in "No One Can Do It Better" so I tip my hat to him for staying who he is.

Em payed his dues and layed the groundwork for his success. He never had an elevator that took him to the top, he went the long route and just about made it when it seemed like it was all in vain. Lyrically there isn't anoyone that's outright better, subject matter is subjective so I could understand that not everyone relates to what he's talking about. I never sold a gram of any drug in my lifetime yet "Can I Live" by Jay Z is one of my all time favorite songs. A lot of people that listen to Future or any rapper that talks about drugs aren't doing drugs, so what is all this "the hood don't f with it" talk about ? I didn't like everything Em dropped in recent years but that doesn't take away anything from his pen and the acolades he attained. Hip Hop is global, it's just that Lord Jamar who couldn't go gold for 30 + years is mad because a white boy is the most succesful artist ever. Lord Jamar's biggest contribution to Hip Hop was Dead Prez. Love those guys, very underrated artists.

I can’t believe this is still under discussion. Hip hop and rap has transcended race and is worldwide. This should be celebrated. People can have can have whatever opinion they want but, that’s all it is is an opinion. My opinion is when people like lord jamar wants to go on about debates whether em is a guest or not does a disservice to the culture in itself. I personally think that there are artist who have made a mockery of hip hop and should have never touched a mike and mumbled, then called it hip hop. But that’s just me and my opinion and doesn’t effect any outcome.

He's also very controversial talking about borderline stuff other rapper don't speak about and vulgar nasty things of his own family and sick disgusting content that doesn't really interest the black community. He's very skilled his content blah but his white skin let's him sell forever. Go for yours eminem!!! People has there own opinions bro nothing personal.

You guys make his fanbase toxic and aint really Hip Hop, how u gon say Eminem is thee Greatest Of All Time and He Outshinessss everyone and hes not a guest hes a landloorddd. Eminem himself wouldnt respect what your saying, and yall are jus dismissing hundreds of a great rappers to say a white dude is by far "Theee goat and the landlord" of a Black Culture thru your ignorance of Hip Hop... instead you could just express how Em is great, by you cant do that wit disrespecting everyone else

The hood inspired Eminem. The hood created the techniques he has now absorbed and mastered. That's right. He IS a master rhymer but he isn't the first or the only current master. What people like Lord Jamar understands is that being highly skilled doesn't gaurantee popularity. Popularity like Em's can't be predicted based on skill. What's popular changes constantly and doesn't signify superiority . However, you could predict that if we ever got a great white rapper that the media and the mainstream/casual listeners would overreact and declare him the goat. It's the Tiger Woods effect done in reverse. People that never cared about rap suddenly became experts on the craft. Tiger actually has tangible proof of dominance whereas Eminem does not. You can't use popularity and record sales to define art especially if the culture that invented said art is not consulted or taken into account when determining it's proper value. You can make him your goat but he isn't ours AND it's not because he's white.

Yea Pac was sumpin else…..a lot of cats seem to act like what Pac did wasn’t that impressive or he wasn’t that lyrical….Pac was a story teller. His tone, inflection, cadence, passion hasn’t been matched since. He exists outside of the “top” lists for me. His music didn’t touch you because of his rhyme scheme or technical ability. It hit you because you could feel his emotion in the music. He had the right voice, and knew how to use his voice in the music to convey how he felt…….He was just sumpin else.

i am so glad some of the ppl said the thing i always fought with ppl about, em raps about his life and what he went through, jay z biggie and the rest of them have songs with crazy beats but they talking about all the ppl they killed and all the drugs you sold, you mean to tell me if em wanted to make a album like that he cant? not only is he the best wordsmith there is no fucking doubt he be ali, jordan and babe ruth in one after he drops a album like that. like those guys said ppl talk about the smoke and mirrors of rap songs because everyone wanna be a gangster. in my whole life i never seen a real gangster make a song what they do in the streets and this is why i was glad ppl brought that point out, if em did songs like that and the way he raps the game is over. 50 said it the best, get anyone you want to battle or what ever make a song or what ever rules you want nobody is beating em and he will beat everything he has lol

I call them lyrical inflection points and they are rare. Inflection points in math are those areas on a graph where a line changes direction..it’s going at a 20 degree angle and then shifts of a 30 degree angle. The 40 degree change was Rakim and then the next one was Eminem. All others, in their era, were just in their orbit, they didn’t ratchet up the level of innovation. I would say that the next inflection point was Fred The Godson. When I heard him, my mind was blown. The layers to his lyrics were other worldly. His word play was unmatched . _If black’s bored, you can get chalked_ . I had to rewind almost every song. _With Louie on, ‘til they cut ya ass_ (you have to know some French history to fully get that bar….deep). Check out his “God Level” album…pure genius.

Tupac is very easy to underrate, as he wasn't a skills MC or a rhymer. His writing was more a diary entry of emotions and his take on important topics, derived from being a Poet. His writing is nowhere near as simplistic as some people say, and that's is why I believe he is definitely a hip hop great and some of his music is timeless. I wasn't even a fan when he was alive. I like skilled rhymers. But Pac was definitely a legend! RIP 🙏

People miss a lot of the stuff that he is doing. He's the master of alliteration. He is so rhythmic and intense in his delivery - he owns the beat like no one else. Usually the people who hate on Pac are New York dudes who want 'witty' Street Hustler shit and think that's the height of lyricisn in hip-hop... Tupac's on a whole other level... he's not a dude in Times Square trying to sell you a CD he's Malcolm X giving a speech to the whole world. And he could do the intricate internal rhyme scheme lyrucal miravle thing he just didn't do it for no reason to show off, when he did it it was to say something profound, like in Me Against the World: "Dreamin of riches/in the position/ of making a difference/politicians / and hypocrites/they don't wanna listen"
