Loved to see your reaction. I was at this show. The video you watched was projected live onto a massive screen above the stage. It was absolutely life changing. You were right about the influences. The drummer was into James Brown, the bass player was into Motown, the guitarist was into Elvis and Robert Johnson and the early blues. You have no idea how lucky you are to see this stuff like this. We all knew they had filmed these shows. But they didn't release them because "they thought it was boring." Those of us who were there had to wait until the bootleggers got their hands on the tapes and finally released this stuff sometime after 2000. We had to wait 25 years! I honestly never thought I would live to see this footage in this quality. It's like being there again.

Welcome to the greatest band to ever grace the stage. In 1968 The stars where aligned when these 4 master musicians came together to become Led Zeppelin. Jimmy Page the Guitarist and producer. He was the best session guitar player in the UK Jimmy had a vision to start up a new band. His creativity from him from playing his guitar with a violin bow, using a Theramin, making his own affects pedals. having a custom double neck guitar built for him by Gibson. They would do things that no other band dare do. Then by infusing different styles of music driven by a heavy thunderous beat.They Revolutionized Rock and Roll. He needed the right minded equally talented musicians for this to happen. Robert Plant a 18 year old vocalist was referred to him..Robert had what Jimmy was looking for. That soulful bluesy style who sang with heart and emotion but he could also scream like banshee.Robert recommended his friend John Bonham he was a thunderous drummer that hit the drums harder than any other drummer has. But he also he had the smooth quiet backing beat when needed. and his fills and triplets with a single bass drum was unlike any other. Then John Paul Jones (Bassest and keyboard) a true master mind of his own he had mastered many instruments while also being a sessions musician that Jimmy had often worked with. He herd about Jimmy's band and said he would give up plans he had and join in. From their first practice together Jimmy said there was this connection between all the members. Led Zeppelin was formed. They changed the way music was composed. They changed how music was Performed. And they changed the world with their first record. There are many real good bands out there but everyone of them were inspired in some way by what Zeppelin did. Imitation and copying something that has been done before is easy. Having the vision to introduce change is genius.There are no bad Led Zeppelin songs only timeless masterpieces.every song is different some bluesy some folk some rock some reggae, country, funk. They play it all with a added thunderous unique style that was unique to Led Zeppelin from 1969-1980 when John Bonham died in 1980 the band could no longer exist. there was no replacement that could do what bonzo did. but during that 10 year span they did what no other bands in history have ever done. Every show was sold out to the biggest crowds in history. these are some of the reasons that they earned the respect of their piers. and deserve the title of the greatest band to ever grace the stage. Their live shows would be 2 1 / 2-3 1/2 hours long.
@hinney8273 жыл бұрын
not to dump all over your post, but Page had been in the Yardbirds, and didn't simply have some vision to go from session guitarist to Zeppelin. He actually got Plant/JPJ/Bonham together to finish the tour the Yardbirds had already been contracted to play. They played as The New Yardbirds, finished the contract, then started recording their own stuff as Led Zeppelin. Page's first choice for vocals wasn't even Robert. Can you imagine what the world would have missed out on if Terry Reid would have joined the group, instead of passing on the offer, leading to Plant and Bonham joining up? How many bands wouldn't even exist without the influence of Zeppelin?

The story goes that the “blouses” Robert Plant wears are from his previous night’s conquest. This is an old gospel song. They way Jimmy plays the slide slays me. I’ve also heard John Paul Jones used a fretless bass so he could keep up with Jimmy Page. Mississippi blues goes way back to the 20’s at least. The entire LZ catalogue is a gift to the world. There's nothing better to put their music into proper context than seeing the first reactions of young people to this music. That is the true test of greatness. I'm 67. I've been playing guitar for 54 of those years (not especially well, but still going :) ). The whole reason I started playing was from hearing "Heartbreaker" for the first time in 1969. So, for me, the works of LZ perhaps resonate in a different way. They blessed my ears throughout their careers, but also inspired me to bring musicianship into my life, to this very day. This is a debt that can never be repaid.

Try Dazed and Confused by Led Zeppelin for a metal influence. Do the live one from 1969.

In 2007 there was a tribute for Ahmet Ertegun a co-founder and president of Atlantic Records. When it was announced that Led Zeppelin was going to play a set for the first time in 28 years. The request for tickets broke world records over 20 million in a few hours. They had to do a lottery because the area can only hold 20 thousand. That is the last time the surviving members play all together.

WRONG 19 years I saw them with Jason Bonham in 1988 @MSG for Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary Concert P.S. Led Zeppelin with Jason closed out the Show and took the Stage a little after 1am played 5 Songs

John Paul Jones is a phenominal bassist! He does stuff with a band called THEM CROOKED VULTURES which includes Dave Grohl and Josh Homme from Queens if the Stone Age. Great stuff!

A lot of people leave JPJ out of the Zep conversation, without knowing he was the main architect of their music and sound.

@@Brotha_Teresa I agree! He was and is very talented in his own right. Love him.

btw i love watching you guys react to rock n roll....makes me feel like a kid/young again (only 40 though!). Its like turning your best friend on to something you love...the 'ol "you gotta listen to this!" sort of thing....makes me smile every time. Now a great idea for a channel would be someone like myself who reacts to classic hip hop/rap type of music as i never did listen to those types of music...middle aged white dude with 5 kids reacts to rap!!
