This is a David Bowie cover that they did on their MTV Unplugged album. It was half their songs and half covers of songs they loved. This is my favorite track on the unplugged album, it’s amazing!

If my memory serves me correct, Nirvana intentionally played a bunch of covers just to piss off the MTV execs who only wanted them to play their top hits for the Unplugged performance.

The other guitarist is Pat Smear, who joined Nirvana as a touring guitarist in 1993 until Kurt died in 1994. I think he was about to join the band for real, but they disbanded after Kurts death. After that, Dave Grohl started Foo Fighters and Pat joined soon after.

Pat Smear formerly of the Germs is a legend in punk in his own right. He was the second guitarist the last year or so of Nirvana. He came a while after Jason Everman was fired, Everman also spent a little time in Soundgarden before having a distinguished Military career. Pat Smear was there for the end of Nirvana and the start of Foo Fighters with Dave. He left FF after recording The Colour And The Shape album then came back several years later as a touring guitarist then eventually reintegrated as a full time member. As far as the not knowing about a band but wearing the merch is a poser move trying to be cool hate when the stuff I love from my teen years becomes a modern fashion statement. Like the smiley face shirt I had it with the Flower Sniffing,Kitty Petting Baby Kissing Corporate Rock Whores on the back and the new prints don’t feel right without it.

First of all, that's really not fair comparing them to Rush here considering this is supposed to be an *UNPLUGGED* session but I digress. The reason for the 60s vibe is this is A David Bowie cover and while Kurt didn't write the lyrics himself, I think he feels them in his soul. As far as who's on stage, the cellist is the one guest. Both Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl were longtime(though not founding) members and the rhythm guitarist there is Pat Smear of The Germs who hopped onboard in 93 as touring member before Kurt died in 94 and would then go on to be Dave's backup in Foo Fighters. Gotta get to Aneurysm, Territorial Pissings, and You Know You're Right

The whole Nirvana unplugged performance is considered to be one of the best live albums ever! Check more out of it! React to Where did you sleep last night! And about Nirvana, they were the most famous band in the world while Kurt Cobain was alive! Their Nevermind album changed the music business and popularized alternative rock. He was titled the voice of a generation when he was still here, but ofc the band gained even more fame after his death! But yes Nirvana is usually seen as a grunge band, but I actually dont categorize them grunge! Their sound is so different from Alice in chains, pearl jam, ect and they have many style. While I do love Alice in Chains or other grunge bands, Nirvana I think just had something very special about them when you go through there catalogue! Just because their are very popular and crossed into the mainstream, people like to hate on them but they were so influential and big for a reason. They were simply that great!

Kurt messes up part of the lyrics here, and he messes them up in such a haunting way it gives me chills every time. The original lyric in the middle of the song is "And all the millions here, we must have died alone. A long, long time ago." But Kurt sings, "We marked a million hills, I must have died alone. A long, long time ago." I really feel this is an indicator of where his head was at even then. Malcolm Gladwell did a whole podcast on how some artists mess up lytics due to personal plight.

There IS a 'Live and LOUD' version of this too. Back in the 80s, a drummer came up beside me in the can on a break and said, "How 'bout playing the F***ING MELODY?! It ain't fusion." It made him happier for me to simplify, maybe the singer or the audience, and I didn't take it badly. Words to the not so wise. Kurt played the melody on 'Teen Spirit' and others and it was awesome! Here he plays the same simple effective part upstairsMick Ronson played on the original.

Despite the 'conspiracy', I've always been a Hole fan. The entire Live Through This album was one of those play-every-song. They did an unplugged too. I'm sure you've heard Malibu & Celebrity Skin on the radio or in movies. If you wanna deep dive, take a listen to Pretty On The Inside, fron her 1st album of the same name.

Coming straight from a 16 year old fanatic during the release of Nevermind, it was the release of the single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" that made the band stars overnight. Literally. This was an album that if you were into the "grunge" scene at the time you would remember where you were and who you were with the first time you heard it. I hate to compare them to The Beatles because really the music is not comparison at all. The comparison I'm trying to make though, is how the music of the period completely changed after the bands were realized. You need to remember, the "grunge" scene is what killed the hair bands. Just as The Beatles changed "Rock n Roll". And how both bands still find new fans everyday. Yes, Nirvana had the album 'Bleach', but 'Nevermind' is what put them on the map and changed music. They also have an amazing 3rd LP called 'In Utero' which is what "Heart Shaped Box" came from. They also have an EP called 'Insecticide' which is great as well. While Nirvana really is considered the impetus of the Seattle "grunge" movement. There were many. Mother Love Bone (who later became Pearl Jam), AIC, Soundgarden and so on and on and on. One thing I can answer for sure is that no, Nirvana were at their "biggest" when Kurt was still alive and they were still kinda in their peak. *Also how strange to be making this comment on the morning I found out the baby from the Nevermind album is suing for child pornography. A money grab for sure.

i don’t think anyone from that era will judge you for equating Layne and Kurt. They both had that… something… that just made them truly special. It’s like they sang directly into your soul, and that’s why their deaths affected so many people so deeply. The two of them were definitely on a different level. (i’d throw chris cornell up there, too, maybe a half-step down)

Lance Storm's finisher was a half-crab. I believe he called it the Toronto Maple Leaf or something like that on a play of the Texas Cloverleaf.

Nirvana was never supposed to be a three piece band and they had another second guitarist during the early years, "Jason Everman", who actually played in both Nirvana and Soundgarden and went on to become a Navy Seal. They ran into Pat Smear and they were fans of "The Germs", a hardcore punk band and Kurt's wife Courtney Love was friends with Pat and vouched for him. He joined the band and was going to be a permanent member, he wasn't just a touring guitarist. If you want to check out Hole, check out "Miss World", "Violet", "Doll Parts", "Asking for It", "Celebrity Skin".

In The Pines or otherwise known as Where Did You Sleep Last Night is another great cover they did. But covered from who? Well, it was an old blues song but was around before then with many different names and no one knows who wrote it but it's really old .

Lance Storms finisher was I believe a Texas cloverleaf, but he named it the Canadian maple leaf. Storm was a very good technical wrestler, but was better used in ECW. Very similar to Jericho, Malenko, Benoit and maybe even Bret. For more Nirvana, try Lithium, All Apologies, and Scentless Apprentice.

Nirvana grew in popularity from 1990 on. Like you said, they were the biggest WHEN Kurt died. It was shocking. They sold a lot after his death to the people from the next generation and people who were oblivious until then. The BEATLES grew in popularity and still sell millions, regardless of life status of the members. They had Three giant albums release from 1990 until his death. They became more appreciated musically after Kurt died.

🦋 Nirvana YESSS! 😁 The NeverMind Album is my favorite. All the songs are Epic Level Grunge Rock. "Drain You" "Lounge Act" & "Something In The Way" are 3 I Reccomend for future reactions.😉 Kurt Cobain was an Amazing Musician/Vocalist. I remember the very day everyone found out he had died. EVERYONE Was 😭 It was such 🤧 a sad day. My high school actually let girls go home from being so upset crying. I Still have all my Nirvana Cassette's, Cd's, Tshirts & Posters from High School. Every time I hear Kurt. It brings me back to those days of my youth when he was still Alive. Awesome Reaction Guy's! RIP Kurt The Legend Cobain May his memory live on through his music Forever!
