I used to love their grooves, the drummer's soulful vocals, the horns, they sometimes had wah-wah guitar which was a plus for me. In Concert or the Midnight Special, I'd be there, glued to the tube. ✊🏼😊🎉🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊

You need to do the original album version. Its the whole 1st side of the album, about 30 minutes long. Flip side has Tobacco Road plus.

Written by Smokey Robinson, “Get Ready” was first a hit for the Temptations, in 1966. Rare Earth, who were then known in and around Detroit as the Sunliners, added the song to their concert setlist that same year.

I love the shots of the audience on these old live performances 😊❤ I remember seeing Smokey Robinson sing this at The Michigan State Fair and it was fantastic ❤

Temptations did it first, but Rare Earth went higher on the charts. Peaked at 4. Yes they are Detroiters. I was a Detroit suburbanite from the late 60's through the 70's. Detroit radio was magic. And we love our local boys and girls in the music biz. I am pretty sure they got their name from chemistry. There is a group of mineral elements given that name. They are hard to isolate, that is why they are rare.

What you saw here was some live performance footage more or less synched with the single (radio) version audio of the song. Rare Earth were the first white band signed to an album deal with Motown. Barry Gordy made a subsidiary label to market them to a white audience and named it Rare Earth Records after the group. Get Ready was a Motown song (The Temptations I think), that Rare Earth was already playing in concert before they even got to Motown. They recorded it on a Psychedelic Pop album that they cut for Verve records that was called Dreams & Answers. That was probably one of the things that got Barry Gordy's attention. On their first Motown (self titled) album they recorded an EPIC live version of the song to which they jammed out for well over 20 minutes! It took up the whole second side of the album. They had success with I Just Want to Celebrate, I Know I'm Losing You, Born to Wander, Hey Big Brother, We're Gonna Have a Good Time.

As Ann Mills says below Rare Earth were from Detroit, Michigan, and were the first all White band signed by Berry Gordy at Motown. I remember dancing to their hit "I Just Want To Celebrate" in Junior High. The Junior High was very cool, we had dancing during school, with the Phys Ed Coaches being the DJ's. Rare Earth was BIG, BIG, BIG.
