Biography Years Active 2003 - present (21 years) Founded In Seattle, King County, Washington, United States Members David Gillett Andrew Mailloux - Vocals Dave Gillett - Guitar Sean Rydquist - Bass Jesse Smith - Drums Formed in late 2002, Seattle's Rishloo continue to gain wide-spread recognition for their dynamic sound, thought-provoking lyrics and intense live performance. Often compared to bands like Dredg, The Mars Volta, Tool, and Fair to Midland, Rishloo strives to push the envelope of psychedelic, progressive art-rock, drawing inspiration from classic artists like The Beatles, David Bowie, and Pink Floyd, while incorporating the modern experimentation and emotional depth of artists such as Tori Amos, Deftones, Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, and more. In February 2012 the band announced that Andrew, the vocalist, decided to leave the band, this being the unexpected end of Rishloo. The remaining members briefly formed the band The Ghost Apparatus, until late in 2013 when Andrew and the band rejoined forces. On October 10th 2013 the band announced that they had decided to move forward making music as Rishloo. Continuing as they have since their inception as an entirely independent venture, Rishloo have sold 5,500+ units of their debut album, Terras Fames (2004) and 9,500+ units of their sophomore effort, Eidolon (2007) while attracting tens of thousands of fans online from around the globe. Interest in the band continues to grow exponentially on sites such as Myspace, Facebook, KZbin, ReverbNation, and Last.FM. With a lot of hard work and much appreciated help from their fans, Rishloo continue to travel and perform whenever possible throughout the U.S. and parts of Canada. In the course of their adventures, they have been privileged to share the stage with artists like Karnivool, Papa Roach, Fair to Midland, Ashes Divide, Sevendust, Trapt, Strata, and Judas Priest. The band's latest effort, Living as Ghosts with Buildings as Teeth, was released December 2014. So excited to see this band on your channel, and even more excited to see just how much you guys enjoyed it. For me this song has some great moments but I find their newest album to be their masterpiece. There's not a single moment in it that lacks brilliance. It's one that I just always have to listen to straight through start to finish. Unfortunately I don't know enough to enlighten you about the other details such as what a feathergun is lol. I'm as clueless as you, I just love progressive, unique music.

I always thought Feathergun was mass-media that powers that be use to brainwash people, make people to believe that others are their enemies, create conflicts and provoke fights. Feathergun is not an actual gun, but it becomes a gun by proxy. But I might be wrong.

Finally Rishloooooooooooooooooooo!!! Thank you guys!! They're a class in itself, although they're often compared to Tool. Four albums published by themselves, no record label! "Andrew Mailloux is a singer, one of the best in my opinion. 'Just a ride", 'The great rain beetle', 'Landmines', 'Keyhole In The Sky', 'Diamond Eyes' could be some of songs to start with.

Living as Ghosts With Buildings as Teeth is their newest album. All of their work is quality. They are definitely from the US. Check out songs like Weevil Bride and The Great Rain Beetle if you wanna journey down their progressive sound. Songs like Scissorlips are great for something a little more accessible. Rishloo is their debut album. In my opinion after covering several songs I would say downhill is my favorite anyway. Since you don't know me, I'm giving you my opinion on what I've learned. I do my best not to speak in absolutes. For the Heart long Sustained note, Dream of the Archer. I think the difference between Steve, Ann and the rishloo lead singer is the ladder two, can do a sustained note, with the full-blown power voice. No only does Ann use her power voice she raises her volume to the end of the note which is absolutely phenomenal, I think. You have to give Steve props he had a five-and-a-half Octave voice. Sorry these are so long I hope it's not annoying.

EXCELLENT review. They broke up for a while because the singer dove into being self-critical and didn't think he was good enough. Can you believe that. there's only two other singers that I've heard that can hold a sustained note as long as this dude. Steve Perry Ann Wilson. If you ever want to do those songs, the Steve Perry is from a group called Journey and the name of the song is the Winds of March. IDK if your audience would appreciate those old songs but I have a wide experience of different genres so I'm just letting you know.

Fiad to Midland is forever my favorite band...Orphan Anthem 86 may not be as popular, but it's a worm that burrows into your brain & never let's you forget the melodies...same with Musical Chairs, & Uh Oh features a powerful vocal performance fr. Darroh. Say When is an amazing finale for an album. Rishloo bears an amazing similarity to FTM, mostly bec. of the similarities btwn singers. I started listening to Rishloo when I realized there wd be no new music from FTM ever...so began looking for similar bands.

I've copy/pasted some Rishloo info for you guys: Rishloo are a fantastic and utterly underrated modern progressive band from Seattle. They first came on the scene in the year 2002. They mix pounding rhythmic buildups and vocally led alternative rock styles with progressive attitudes, effects laden guitar sections and virtuosic musical displays, all in a concise and grand manner coupled with particularly intelligent and evocative lyrics. The band are perhaps most famous for Tool and A Perfect Circle comparisons, but there is a lot more to the band than simply homage to the unique and oft imitated talents of Maynard James Keenan, Adam Jones, Justin Chancellor and Danny Carey (although if you listen carefully, it is easy to pick up on just that; for each member and their specific tones and styles, especially because Rishloo feature rhythmic and emotive vocals that use of lot of long sustained shouts over musical transitions.) While Rishloo write artistic and creative music suited to fans of progressive rock, the music falls more on the commercial and listenable alternative rock end of the prog spectrum than on the dense, challenging and difficult end. There aren’t twenty-minute songs played at 30bpm full of drills, grotesque film samples and dissonant organs; just intelligent and interesting music written and performed by very talented individuals. Being an indie band, they are not signed with any label and every tour or release is self financed. Band members about their music: Sometimes we could go with 'we're experimental, or psychedelic progressive rock' and people would frown and ask what does that mean. And then maybe it comes easier to bring up the names of bands we grew up with, like Mars Volta, or Tool that we're quite often compared to. We take a lot of inspiration from older bands like Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, bands that we grew up with and we believe it's easier to find their influences in what we're doing. What's the history of band's name? Actually, it's a made up word. We wanted to have something that wasn't someone else's. We wanted to be easy searchable and have an impact when you hear it. We also wanted to describe the idea of inspiration. We wanted that word to be defined by that so we created a word that defined the inspiration within. It apparently doesn't mean anything in any language. Members: Andrew Mailloux - Vocals Dave Gillett - Guitar Sean Rydquist - Bass Jesse Smith - Drums Discography: Terras Fames (2004) Eidolon (2007) Feathergun (2009) Living as Ghosts with Buildings as Teeth (2014)

Some Rishloo facts from a Rishloo fan: the band is from Seattle; the artwork is by Rishloo guitarist David Gillet; they are entirely self produced and published (I ordered merch and my email correspondence was with a band member); they NEVER explain their lyrics, preferring to leave that up to the listener; EVERY song on their last 2 (arguably 3) albums is this caliber, though Feathergun is their most popular.

@@thecakeplays they put out four albums, & though I don't care for the first one (Carbon Copy Silver Linings), their second, Inter.Funda.Stifle is amazing. It has earlier versions of some of the same songs as on Fables...but the other songs? Sheer bliss. Granny Niblo, Abigail, & especially Orphan Anthem 86 are amazing, with unforgettable melodies. And while Fables... was great, their last, Arrows & Anchors, was EPIC.

All Rishloo is amazing! Got me through some crazy times. River of Glass is probably my favorite from this album.

My favorite interpretation of this song is the garden of the sun is a place where you can't hide yourself. Your good, your bad, your misgivings and evil deeds. It's all in the open, in front of you. The "war" is with yourself, the evil you have to confront when placed in the garden of the sun - a place indifferent to everything but the truth.

If you wanna hear a song from Rishloo that's kinda sorta Tool sounding, check out "Omega". Being real though, that's the 3rd of a Trilogy. So either put all 3 together or just check out Omega cuz that's the only full song. The other 2 are more to set the mood. Keep being effing awesome my dudes! Weeble Wabble, Eidolon Alpha, & Omega (together) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mai9pKSkn7acack Omega (single) kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3mQfIl6es-ml80

My history with Rishloo has been great. Heard em first time in Baghdad IZ on last.fm. Fell in love with the Operatic voice style then. Sort of put Rishloo and their discog at the top there with Tool, then I heard Leprous... "Nighttime Disguise/Castaway Angels/Alleviate/Below"... My new Trio of BEST PROG: Rishloo/Tool/Leprous. Cheers

It's prog metal. I got to talk to this band. when I was getting permission to cover one of their songs. I'm not naming any names but one of them writes fantasy stories. There isn't any reason to even try to understand the lyrics, unless you want to integrated into your experiences, it's about his own imagination. I hope that helps.
