Benji (the vocalist) grew up in wales to a Jamaican family, so Reggae, ska, rocksteady etc. was their from birth but he started listening to punk with his friends, he would trade albums, Jamaican music to his punk friends and punk to his older brother and his brothers friends (in the UK there is a old and well established connection between punk and Jamaican music, particularly ska)

I remember being utterly blown away first time I heard these guys... although the really crazy thing about this isn't the unique fusion of styles, or how easily the lead singer can switch between reggae sound and metal growls... it's the fact that they're from WALES that I struggle to get my head around (well, that and the lead singer's birth name is "Clive"). It's like finding out your favorite rapper comes from rural Wyoming.

I tend to comment the same thing on all Skindred reactions. They're one of the most underrated metal bands from the UK and they have been since the 90s. They're amazing live, too. They are constantly touring and they sell out shows all over. They're one of the most down to earth bands, they'll be playing the back room of a local pub one week and be on the main stage at a metal festival playing for 30 thousand the next, and the shows are always consistently fun and feel-good. Benji (the vocalist) really delivers a lot of audience participation at the shows and it's one of the most fun gigs you could ever go to. This is the kind of band you can see perform and then actually talk to them after, because they tend to mingle with the crowd to watch other bands and generally are just really nice guys with no ego.

Great track from a Welsh band that used to live in Newport. They used to gig in TJ's back in the day, but this looks like it was recorded in LePub. Love the reaction, good job guys!

Was recorded in old le pub, being an old newport guy I remember when my stoner cousin took me to see dub war in newport centre. They were being supported by feeder. Oh they are still based in newport/bristol. Also dub war are active again now(original skindred line up) those guys are based in da port.

My wife has been an excellent source for lesser known bands like these guys. Think the first time I heard these guy was over a decade ago I think from her suggestion. Another band she gave me among many others is one named Ra which she has a few CDs from them. A Nu-Matalish feel but excellent sound.

I've seen them several times live, at festivals and local pubs, and they usually hang around and just chill out with the the audience. It's never weird either. One of the friendliest and down to earth bands in the UK scene. Can't wait to see them play again at Download in June :)

I saw these guys live in 2011 at Download Festival, UK. I was still relatively new into the world of metal and that was my first festival but my god, Skindred made one hell of an impression! One band I would love to see you guys react to is Ignea. A band I found out about recently, from Ukraine. Most of their material, that I've so far heard, is in English. My favourite is "Seytanu Akbar". The one song they seem to have done in Ukrainian is Чорне Полум'я (Chorne Polum'ya) or Black Flame. Both are awesome and the band is awesome and very much deserving of some attention, especially with all that's going on right now.

The singer Benji is the ringleader of this mix of styles-he started this band after his first crossover rock/ragga band Dub War split up-he’s been doing this kind of music for 30 years or more and he’s a great frontman, they play a lot of festivals and get the crowd going crazy

They are from Newport UK. I live not far. So I've seen them quite a few times. You should look up Newport helicopter. Usually in an open air festival where it's more effective.

This was actually filmed in Benji's front room :) star man that he is. Unfortunately when Skindred first appeared many many years ago no-one was quite sure what to make of them...the reggae crowd didn't like them coz they weren't reggae the metalheads didn't like them because they weren't pure metal...they were an unusual fused genre that was ahead of its time and folk couldn't handle it! I got their first albume but as a major old rock & metal fan I found it weird. Luckily I love it all now I'm old hehe
