"I'm just sitting in my car waiting for my girl" is in reference to a guy who got questioned by police in the parking lot nearby Tienamin (not sure about the spelling) Square. He told the officers he was just sitting in his car and waiting for his girl. His girl didn't come back......

Hard to believe this song is almost 20 years old. I have lots of Metal head friends who can't stand SOAD because they hated the singer. It's bewildering. No band has come out with anything so original since SOAD's last album. Love em or hate em, the one thing you can never accuse SOAD of is originality and just great sounding songs. It's too bad they can't get along long enough to put some new material out. STILL no other band sounds like SOAD. They are their own genre.

You guys definitely got the idea down of it being about how corporations and government use media to hypnotize and placate the masses, honestly I really love this song. Also, since you were wondering, the "I'm Just Sitting In My Car, Waiting For My Girl" lyric, by all accounts that's actually just what Daron Malakian, the lead guitarist, was doing when he wrote the song, and they just kept it in. I kinda like that about it. Also since you were talking about Covers and Similar songs, Linkin Park has a song called Rebellion which features Daron on it as a guest guitarist, and it does kinda sound like if Linkin Park were singing a SoaD song, at least it does to me. Love the videos guys, keep it up, and sorry if I start spamming requests down the line, love what you're doing.

Tienamin square was where China gunned down a stadium full of highschool and college students with live rounds and automatic weapons killed God knows how many. There were journalist who filmed most of all the incident but obviously the footage hasn't been showed because obviously who would want to see such an atrocity. The main footage that leaked was the man who walked in front of a moving tank in protest and the footage cuts out but the tank did run him over and it was filmed. It's easily one of the greatest atrocities ever committed. There are many documentaries on this I highly suggest learning about it. I imagine they suggest to ask the kids of tienamin square because there was a media black out and all journalist were captured and forced to erase footage. It's a miracle the incident left china. The kids at tienamin square were lost due to media influence in China and even to this day it's forbidden to bring it up.

08:30 I mean, there's actually some people who actually DOES sound like Serj, there's a guy on YT where he did some famous songs if they were sang by System of a down, and honestly he did such an AMAZING Job with Serj and Daron's voice (I'm not even kidding, he literally sounds exactly like Serj and Daron) but his covers he does from system of a down's prime era in their toxicity album, so the songs have some heavy riffs and some screams, also he uses literally riffs from soad songs, this makes the songs even more similar theirs, but serj actually has different voices thru the years 08:22 he actually doesn't have that nasal tone in their 1st 2 albums, he does sometimes, but he has more of a clean young tone, his voice was more clean than nasal if this makes sense Also u still need to see system of a down WEIRDEST songs, their hit songs are always the "tamest" ones, their weirdest and wtf songs are their best imo, almost their whole discography is like "bruh this is so weird but in a good way", "such a weird song and weird lyrics but it's good" Didnt u see in the last soad reaction they taking about "Pull the tapeworm out of your s" XD, the next reaction HAS to be MIND, song from their 1st album, 6 minutes of pure weirdness

This is literally one of my top 3 songs by them. The sad thing is SOAD could of done so many I mean SO MANY more great things then what they did. There was just such a big gap where they didn't do anything. Like their drummer said it sucks when you are this good and you can do so many great things and you just don't.
@tysonwilson7588 Жыл бұрын
IMO soad stopped making albums at the perfect time think about the bands of the time Korn Slipknot .etc they all over time made progressively worse albums SOAD made 5 perfect albums then said yeah we will just tour those occasionally yeah it sucks but I feel like if they made an album today it would be a 4/10 compared to what they've done before
@matthewkuffler3680 Жыл бұрын
@tysonwilson7588 I get your point but if they came back and did 1 amazing same Ole SOAD album then that would be great. We don't need 2 or 3 more like others do I'd they do an amazing album matured for how they are and from what they were just an album of what they become and made it same Ole system then I feel like that would be enough. They cut it quits to soon, cane back with a fire ass album and then said there you go enjoy. I'm cool with that, unless their comeback album is so torch then we gotta have another one I'm down with that too. But yeah rock on brother the ones we got are God tier live it up

Pychostick has a Christmas song that's a parody soad byob, it's called n.o.e.l. they are as close to soad timing you can get. Even serj would be proud of that parody. This song was about government manipulation. Kinda like what's going on now, remember no political talk on this channel!

To me "sitting in my car waiting for my girl" show how small and powerless we are againts the system that can run over us anytime it wants. The down ward tone and romantic ending shows beautifully how we are just "bro" and "dude" trying our best againts basic stuff in life as a whole before something so brutal and foreign happens everywhere like in the first verse.

As for the video meaning. I don’t think there is any. While on tour for “Mezmerize” (The first half of the double LP) they released only 2 music videos for “Hypnotize” (The 2nd half the double LP). Since they were on a global tour at the time, the music video for “Hypnotize” (the song) & later “Lonely Day” were seemingly shot during the tour as both videos only show the band either in concert footage or on a tour bus w/ additional non-band footage shot elsewhere with no real themes or elaborate set pieces unlike previous music videos.

A lot of SOAD lyrics play upon the juxtaposition between something political and some everyday life scenario. For example, BYOB talks about partying, but the rest of the song is about war etc. This song is similar. I think that juxtaposition highlights the stark contrasts and similarities between worrying about the state of the world and worrying about what's happening in your everyday life

Yeah. Hard to figure what the lyrics are about. The only thing I keep thinking is that whomever is waiting in the car, might be waiting for the girl to come to America from China. Like a euphemism of some kind. Kinda abstract I know. Perhaps she doesn't want to leave China? (shrugs) By the way, you guys gotta react to the Guess Who 🇨🇦. They're one of Canada's biggest rock bands of all-time. Maybe I'm biased, but I think the original American Woman is vastly superior to the Lenny Kravitz version. They put out a lot of hits and were/are an international success. Others...These Eyes, No Time, No Sugar Tonight, and so many others. A little Easter egg: The guy who produced all the Guess Who albums (Jack Richardson) is the father of the guy who engineered the first Rage Against The Machine album (Gggarth R.).

LMAO, u did TONS of times, literally one of your reactions was "Lost in Hollywood" this makes me think about what u guys said in your last SOAD reaction "I never heard Serj growl" "maybe was the back up singer" like, u literally reacted to "SUGAR" where he does some growls and screams, u reacted to P.L.U.C.K where literally the very first line is a growl (serj growls "DIIIIEEEE!)not really the very 1st line but is after the whispering"eliminations" also in P.L.U.C.K when Serj says "RestituTIOOOON" growled before the chorus, u guys reacted to the "Prison song" which serj does tons of growls, in the intros theres a growl "OOOAAAAARGH" and he does growls in the last 2 chorus, Plus Daron also sings in almost every single song along with Serj (not even kiddin after their 1st 2 albums, Daron started to look more of a 2nd lead/main singer instead of a back up singer, he sings like every lines of the songs with Serj) even in their 1st 2 albums he does some back up vocals

So the song is about the incident of protest of tiananmen square between the communist government and the people, some were teenages, who wanted democracy. The song is about how the media distorts your meaning of freedom, such as materialism, and how these people wanted freedom of expression and vote to make actual change. As for the main character waiting for his girl, I assume it is them waiting for someone to join along to change things or someone wanting to ignore it for the classical nuclear family illusion. But at the end of the song, "she," has not shown up yet. So we may never know how it ends however it ends.
