Diamondhead was the band that inspired the style of the Big 4. Metallica in particular took huge inspiration from this song in their earlier works, which is why this is the song they played

The biggest regret of my life is not going to see The Big 4 in Coachella (I live in Coachella, CA), I didn't realize it was a 1 time event!!! 😱😭😭😭😭😭😭 I've been angry at myself ever since, and it will never happen again because Slayer retired after Jeff Hanneman's death!! RIP Jeff Hanneman 🙏

@@metalguru85 What I heard from interviews was a Slayer wanted to do the 4 Horseman which would have fit well . Metallica wanted a cover song as to not look too pompous having the other bands playing their song. .

I watched an interview in which Kerry said he was backstage working on a song. He had headphones on and didn't realize this was happening. Only Dave made it out to play with the others.

That wasn't Kerry King with the beard. That was Scott Ian from Anthrax. I think he was the first to start the long goatee look. I'm so happy you guys are checking out the thrash the I grew up listening to. Diamondhead was a huge influence on the beginnings of Metallica. They were a very very, important band in the formation of what we know today as Metallica. That can never be understated. This concert was simulcast to movie theaters across the world. I watched this live in Portage In. We had that theater rocking! It was like a 4 hour concert. Id do that again in a minute!

All four bands are humongous influences for numerous bands. 🤘🤘🔥🔥 Remember, that was filmed 12 years ago. The bald guy is Scott Ian from Anthrax. The blonde is Dave Mustaine from Megadeth. They only played a portion of the song because of time constraints. Diamond Head is one of Metallica's biggest influences.

Something I had not really thought about previously is that there are members in Megadeth and Anthrax as well during this period that we're not around during the inceptions of the band as they came along as Replacements later. I saw The Big 4 at Sonisphere but missed the jam at the end. I heard it from the porta potty though 😂 When you gotta go you gotta go. Metallica played Am I Evil as a cover of Diamond Head. Diamond Head opened the Big 4 show as well.

MegaDave has came out this week saying he's trying to get the big 4 to do it again and to get Slayer out of retirement. So you could see it happen still.

Dave was never on a Metallica album. He was fired before the recording of Kill'em All. Dave was on a few early demos of a few songs that were eventually on the album. If memory serves me right, Am I Evil and Blitzkrieg were added as extra songs on the 2nd or 3rd Pressings of Kill'em All. Both of those studio recordings that you eventually hear again on Garage Inc were the originals recorded with Cliff around 1984 for B sides on the Creeping Death singles ...I'm old and my memory sucks but I think that's pretty accurate if I remember correctly. Nevertheless Metallica has done several bad ass Diamond Head covers...Helpless is probably my favorite from Garage Days re-revisted.

There's only ONE member of Slayer on stage which is Dave Lombardo on drums. They did at least one whole tour together as the Big Four which was in 2010 and 2011 (I saw them in Germany in 2011) which always ended with a jam by members of all bands (as far as I know Lombardo was the only member from Slayer who would always join the jam, Kerry King once said that he doesn't like things like that).

The reason this was a big deal was because this was basically the first time all 4 bands buried the hatchet and was the first time Dave Mustaine had played on stage with Metallica since he was kicked out. Given all the history nobody thought in a million years this would ever happen

Mustaine has been very vocal on the possibility of a new Big 4. It's very hard to pull a new tour because of Slayer's retirement. It would be great to see them live again, but learning about all the issues between Araya & King, it's unlikely that we will see them together in the foreseeable future.

Diamond Head were part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) in the late 70's. They should have been massive, were being labelled the new Led Zeppelin, but bad management left them behind the likes of Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Saxon etc. with no major record deal. The first album "The White Album" is a classic and was released independently.

Just a little FYI, this song is a cover. The original is from Diamond Head. Metallica recorded this on their 1983 album "Kill'em All" when Dave Mustaine was still in the band.
