Flow state is our higher dimensional selves taking over and we completely step out of the way. The ego dissolves, any thought or idea of self disappears, and like Smokey says you BECOME the action itself. When you become there action, you are in pure perception and all thought disappears. The only thing that exists is the action itself. It is a glimpse into our connection to our higher nature.

This song is immediately followed by Jerk-Off on the album and in the concert this was recorded from. According to what Maynard says, the Bob Marley guy was indeed thrown out. Early Tool doesn't have the time signature and tempo changes of their modern stuff, but its all amazing rock music.

Solid work fellas. This was pretty rad. Comments are fire. One thing that always amazes me is how TOOL came into the world basically fully formed and ready to destroy. They are so tight, across the whole arc. It's nothing short of BFA. /// Flow state: And this is what TOOL is always pushing towards. Flow State IS the natural world. The natural world doesn't do what humans do. Nature is *always* in a flow state. TOOL talks about this in a variety of ways throughout their whole catalog from Disgustipated to Ænima, FOR SURE in Lateralus, and arguably in Pneuma. Now that I've written this, I might even say that TOOL's music IS flow state...?

Great reaction as always guys. I've been following your Tool journey. Of all the things I thought I would be commenting on, I'm here to clarify 'Flow State' for you. Flow is described by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi in a book titled Flow. The original study was on artists, musicians, athletes and surgeons. However, anyone can enter a state of Flow. It's when your abilities and the task your doing meet and you are pushed just enough to make it interesting but not beyond your capabilities. The flow state is when you are so involved with something you lose track of time and even sense of being. It's that idea of basically becoming one with the task and everything just seems to work. Flow is also part of the science of Positive Psychology which is based on the idea of subjective wellbeing. Being in a Flow State actually makes you happier because that means you are doing something you enjoy. So how do I know all this? My wife is about to embark on a PhD which is based on the flow experience.
