Zakk Wylde was born Jeffrey Weilandt in New Jersey... He was already a Black Sabbath fan as a kid and said he saw the band live for the first time in 1980(?) when Ronnie James Dio was the singer... He picked up a guitar early and was already a professional as a teenager. In 1987, he was a local musician at 19 years of age who heard that Ozzy Osbourne was looking for a new guitarist and Zakk sent in a tape hoping for an audition. Ozzy Osbourne recalled looking at tapes coming in sent by guitarists and one stuck in his mind - a tape w/ photo of a blond guitarist who was a split-image of his late guitarist Randy Rhoads. Ozzy went, "Look here... a Randy Rhoads clone!" Ozzy never listened to the tape. Weeks went by and Ozzy was still looking, when his drummer (the late) Randy Castillo came up to Ozzy and told him that he had found a great guitar player to audition for the band - this 19 year old kid he had seen jamming in the East Coast scene. When Zakk Wylde came into the studio to audition, Ozzy was puzzled, "Have I met you before?" Well, Zakk proceeded to play and amazed Ozzy w/ his guitar skills 🤘🤘🔥🔥Suddenly, Ozzy remembered... "You're the Randy Rhoads clone!" 😂😂(I'm sure Zakk was confused by that remark...) But it was a musical match that was beyond the studio... Ozzy and Zakk became close friends as well as bandmates. Ozzy took Zakk under his wing and taught him everything about the music business... The two also became partners in shenanigans offstage too, indulging in drunken mayhem and public pranks. Zakk even made Ozzy the Godfather to his kids... Ozzy made some of his biggest records w/ Zakk Wylde on guitar... Another friendship Zakk made early in his career was w/ Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell - the 2 guitarists bonded over booze, pranks and love of guitarist Eddie Van Halen. In 1994, there was uncertainty if Ozzy would continue touring because of purported health issues, but they worked on the album 'Ozzmosis' that was eventually released in 1995... Zakk was also a huge fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd... Neil Young... Creedence Clearwater revival... as well as acoustic artists like CSNY and Bob Dylan... So, he put together his first solo band Pride and Glory ... and released their only self-titled album in 1994 w/ Zakk doing the lead vocals and delivering more folk songs like 'Machine gun man'... After Pride & Glory split, he recorded an acoustic solo album 'Book of shadows' in 1996. Zakk revealed that he was asked to join Guns N' Roses in 1995 and jumped at the opportunity to work w/ singer Axl Rose and guitarist Slash... he spoke mostly w/ Axl and decided he would sign on. Of course, Ozzy was going on tour in '95 into '96 and Zakk was unable to commit w/ the Guns N' Roses gig coming together... and Ozzy hired guitarist Joe Holmes to handle the touring until 2000. Months went by into 1996 and Zakk was frustrated that Guns N' Roses was still inactive and neither Axl nor Slash were working together... then, news broke in '96 that Slash had been fired by Axl Rose... bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum were also out... and Zakk decided to bail as well by 1997. In 1998, Zakk Wylde decided to return to his heavy metal roots and recorded the first Black Label Society album 'Sonic Brew'... w/Zakk singing lead and playing all the guitars, bass and piano... He released a 2nd BLS album 'Stronger than death' in 2000 and proceeded to tour (They had a difficult start at the bottom level... Zakk recalled the first tour was a nightmare) ... He was also hit hard personally after the death's of his friend Randy Castillo (former Ozzy drummer) in 2002 and then Dimebag Darrell's death in 2004. Zakk returned to Ozzy's band in 2001 and recorded the 'Down to Earth' album and had BLS play Ozzfest 2001... Zakk's Black Label Society career also took off w/ a string of successful albums and tours... and besides working w/ Ozzy over the years, Zakk Wylde released another solo acoustic album 'Book of Shadows II' in 2016... He recently joined the touring version of Pantera to pay tribute to the late friends Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul of Pantera. In 2005, his haunting ballad 'In this river' by Black Label Society paid tribute in the music video to late Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell.

Zack wylde is far and away one of the best guitarists ever, he's won every guitar award there is to win. Zakk started another band while he was still with ozzy, called Pride and Glory, this is from that. And it was several years later when he founded Black Label. He had a solo album called Book of Shadows in that time that is incredible!

Jeffrey Philip Wielandt is his given name. I heard he chose “Zakk” from the tv show “Lost in Space”. His last name was inspired by a British singer named Kim Wilde. I’m not 💯 but I have heard it several times 😊 I have always loved his voice ❤

He definitely is a huge fan of Oscar Wilde. Not who was in mind when he took the last name, though. Zakk is one of the best Metal guitarists to live. He's lent his talent to so many amazing bands. You probably couldn't go a whole day listening to a rock station and not hear a song he was involved with. He's definitely a titan of the industry 🤘🏼🤌🏼

Around 1990, there was a famous live blues bar in Vancouver that had an open jam on Sundays. One night, a dude with long blonde hair got up and smoked the place. He got off the stage and went to have a drink at the bar. The following is a conversation between him and the guy next to him. Guy: You play pretty good. Blondie: Thanks, man. Guy: Do you play with anyone. Blondie: uh, yeah. Ozzy. 🤦 It was Zakk.

The song you did "this river" by zakk is actually about his best friend dime bag Darrel who played in pantera and was shot dead. The song was sorta a tribute to him...

Zakk was so obsessed with playing southern rock on the tour bus with Ozzy, that one day Ozzy had had enough, and set fire to Zakk's confederate flag adorned Les Paul, telling him he never wanted to hear him play that shit on his bus again.. the guitar survived, but is now covered in beer bottle caps nailed to the top to cover the charred flag design underneath..

@@lunixcaptain has nothing to.do with acceptance, it more of having someone famous come from place you grew up or currently live. Is bragging about growing up in tampa Florida during the death metal explosion or the fact I currently live in the home state of Hatebreed wanting to be accepted? America is so large it gives us pride of where we live in this large country. Well thats how I see it.

Interesting, this gives me the strangest nostalgia though I'm pretty sure I've never heard it before, must be some kinda zeitgeist osmsosis lol. Also, judging from my mad scientist calculations of your patreon request threads you're getting very close to reacting to my suggestion (Jeremy, requested SWANS). Now, I gave a choice there and was extremely nondescript in my suggestion so as to send you in as blind as possible but in such a way you really aren't choosing anything because you don't know what the choice really is and this shall be the correction to that. The songs in question are Kirsten Supine from the album To Be Kind and Feel Happiness from the album SWANS ARE DEAD. So....: The choice is basically like this, you find yourself at fork in the road, there is a sign on the road to the left says Mind (kirsten supine) and the sign on the right says heart (feel happiness). Whichever you choose is embracing that quality fully and abandoning the other. Choose wisely 😊
