Not to be that guy, but it's because a lot of current rappers don't switch up their style or beats often enough to make a whole project entertaining. Variety between their own songs is the biggest negative to their music, not a lack of lyricism.

That Freddie Gibbs take will definitely change by next week, lmao. Piñata & Alfredo in particular are both Top 10 hip hop albums ever in my opinion. Bandana & Shadow Of A Doubt are also great albums. Besides Kendrick & maybe Denzel, I think he’s currently the best in the rap game.

@@andreypanarin6930 I love all of them, Danny Brown & JPEGMAFIA are great, J.I.D. just put out one of the best records this year, Tyler since 2016 has been consistently fantastic, so if you want to think those guys are better than Freddie, I’m not going to argue that, however personally, I would give Freddie that #3 behind Kenny & Zel. J.I.D. would be my #4 rn. The reason I can’t say Tyler & J.I.D are better than Freddie is because I feel like everything Tyler made before 2016 is not that good outside of Yonkers & She. J.I.D has been fantastic so I won’t say he can be better than Freddie but I don’t believe he’s there yet. Freddie hasn’t missed in 8 years & I doubt he will miss with his album coming out this month.

Big disagree on that last one. Freddie Gibbs has a bonafide classic (Pinata) and several good-to-excellent projects under his belt....even tho he demolishes every feature hes on, I'd still definitely put his solo stuff above them. Lil Baby has some solo material that I do enjoy, but he's often better on features because while his rapping is usually pretty cool (he's not particularly lyrical but it at least sounds nice), he often picks really stock sounding beats. Kinda funny because even the lamer trap rappers usually still have good beats, yet Lil Baby has the opposite problem lol. If you haven't heard it, you should check out 1st N 3rd by Marlo, it goes hard but Lil Baby and Future carry the fuck outta that song.
