Failure or not, i actually like when artists try to expand their sound. Switching genres, even just for one album. It’s a huge risk for many reasons. It may not be good, but it’s experimental and I like that.

I loved Speedin Bullet. It feels like a manic episode the whole time. Weird voices lurking around your brain that don’t sound like you anymore, but are in fact you. You try to escape the demonic noises of them but end up trapped. And there are some, what feel like good moments between the dark. And maybe the good moments are just acceptance of your lived reality. Trauma gives that sensual feel but yells discomfort. CONFUSED! Is one of my favorites, the excited clashing of instruments, yet the dark lyrics of, “I might go losing it and drive off a cliff.” Very well put together. There was still some nuance too. Adventures to me was old Cudi, but also a foreshadowing into Passion Pain and DS.

Ice didn't fail because he switched genres. People had already treated Ice as a joke and he tried to self remove by the time the dust settled on Mind Blowin', so really, releasing a rock album was more of a having nothing to lose kind of thing. It wasn't about charting. It was about doing something in life so that people didn't automatically laugh at and hit him with things for being a phony. Remember, he was accused of switching genres already, from hip-hop to pop. THAT is what effected him so much. Ice has talked about just how important some of the songs on Hard to Swallow, "Scars" in particular, were to his own healing process.

I am not sure why, but I absolutely love Rebirth. Especially the song, "On Fire". Also, the song, "Ground Zero" is good to play when you take a huge hit off of a -- long tube and suck all the air and other stuff out -- cause it'll get your heart racing. (Gotta keep it KZbin friendly). It's especially funny to play Ground Zero at parties when there are a bunch of noobs and it's their first time with the green. They'll go into another dimension with this song playing. Mattyballz, cool video my man! I just recently subscribed and loved your videos so far. Rock on my duuude!

Just a minor correction: Vanilla Ice's "To The Extreme" was not Vanilla Ice's debut album, he had one in 1989 before it called "Hooked" which barely sold and was not on a major label (he re-recorded and reworked most of the songs for "To The Extreme"). Great video by the way, huge fan of your work. I also think the critics were too hard on "Speeding Bullet to Heaven" as I really enjoyed it!

@@mattyballz Yeah, that's probably fair (maybe "major label debut" would fit? I dunno). I'm really nitpicking, I get it. "To The Extreme" is by all intents and purposes his first *REAL* album, the previous one was horrible (I own a copy of it oddly enough). I also own a copy of his nu metal albums, and good god are they a trainwreck. Thanks for taking the time answer me!

It’s wild bc I really did like Everybody by Logic… but I also completely understand why everyone was clowning on him for constantly talking about being mixed. Some of his best songs were on that album imo … and some of his worst lmao. That album is supposed to be listened to front to back though, when certain songs are isolated it can be very cringe

SBTH isn’t even that bad of an album, yeah it has a lot of unpleasant sounds but if you have a taste in music that doesn’t cater to only rap and hip hop i believe you’d like at least a couple songs. the album is dark, emotional and full of passion and it’s so much more real than what most artists convey in their music and for that i appreciate this album far more than the general audience does. its gotten me through some tough shit due to its grittiness and how unapologetic it is, cudi really put his demons on display and i could relate to that. unpopular opinion but it doesn’t deserve the hate it gets

Kid cudi album is one that will be one that ages like whiskey. I argue that SBTH is better than Entergalactic. 90% of cudi lyrics are dark even when theyre meant to be happy lol. His persona is literally MOTM. Dark side of the moon come on. He expresses the ingenuity in the world and how his pure intentions are tested by a darker force. If youre looking for more insight of how that force behaves for him as a fan that album is a necessity.

Speedin bullet to heaven is one of my favorite rock albums. The songs were real and raw. He held nothing back, and I feel like the Beavis and butthead sketches were the comic relief of the album due to all the dark vibes and lyrics. It was so different that it's off-putting but if you listen you'll find something you like about it. Also didn't help that apple music listed it as a hip-hop album without cudis consent so a bunch of people were tricked into buying it
