I think Cole was trying to step outside of who he is as a person to be the rapper that “the internet” and hip hop fans (including myself) wanted him to be. As a kendrick stan, I agree. I dislike alot of Drake's music, but I don't just hate the guy. Plus, I got some of his music in rotation. It's not depression though haha, nice jab. It's the same way that Samsung is a more powerful phone with fewer limitations than an IPhone. So when someone tells a nerd, like me, that Iphone is better, we get defensive. At the end of the day, whatever you like is what you like. Music may be subjective, but Kendricks penmanship and creativity is on another level than Drake's and I personally think it's blasphemy to compare drake and kendrick, but they're both making music in the same time and in rap. Drake has perfected marketing and relevance in the rap world to stay on top without being the best at any hip hop core value. I don't think Drake survives the 90's and Kendrick would. This drives old heads crazy but it's the same way they call our generation weak. Either way, Drake has definitely solidified himself in rap, and I hope Kendrick drops his response soon.
