Raptors vs Lakers was a joke! Raptors coach goes off on officials

Raptors vs Lakers ended in an all time joke with the Lakers getting 19 free throws in the final 4 minutes of the 4th quarter. Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic was livid and absolutely beside himself with the officiating and I personally agree with him. The officiating this year in the NBA in my opinion has looked worse than its been in the last few years and Lebron had nothing to say about benefiting from garbage calls.

I’m glad this happened to Darko. An old school European sports coach doesn’t care about the league they coach in those guys live for the integrity of the game. Soccer coaches go off like this all the time. I love the energy this dude brought.

It was worse before because there was less tech and analytics. At this point since everything is recorded we even got the %'s for how often x or y ref covers a spread and how often x or y team wins when he officiates. If they made calls fairly, not only would Lebron be thrown out for the amount of charging fouls and even flagrants in some games where he digs his elbow into the ribs of the opponent, sometimes the chin if the defender is lower, but the amount of flops and complaining to the refs as well. If pretty much any other player in the league complained and talked to the refs the way Lebron does after every dumbass play he does to try to get bailed out, they would be ejected from the game without hesitation. The fact that he can foul hard everytime he drives in with that off hand and elbow and complains everytime because he drives into 3+ defenders like an idiot and loses the ball should be enough to see how much preferable treatment he gets. He literally throws a tantrum just because the opposing team does basic defense. The defenders could be standing still with their hands straight up, he would miss with very little contact and they get fouled, and if they don't get fouled, he holds his wrist, falls to the floor, hold his head, or flails his hands around like an idiot hoping to hit someone, like a drama queen. He does most of the contact when he has the ball. Hard contact. Contact people wouldn't get away with even when players were allowed to make some contact when Kobe was still playing towards his prime years. But no, his charging sends him to the line. It's insane. He is a dirty ass player and gets rewarded for it constantly.

Well I think it would benefit lebron a lot more than it hurts him if a robot were calling every infraction perfectly. The amount of contact bigger stronger guys have to push through to get the same calls as smaller guys is a big discrepancy, hence why guys like lebron started flopping to show the refs that very point. If the calls were perfect, I can guarantee he would nit be flopping, he'd be focusing on trying to make the shot through contact more, which would benefit him even more

I watched this game on League Pass, the Lakers got a whistle every time literally every possession the last 3 minutes it was ridiculous. Quickley got a Flagrant for his elbow hitting Reddish on a Eurostep that was obviously a basketball move and RJ got an illegal screen bc AD barely ran into him and flopped on a Scottie Barnes game tying 3. Scottie Barnes was taking way more contact on drives than any Lakers players and still never got a single foul call. And the worst part imo was it made the pace of the game slow and hard to watch. Players should win the game not the refs, and I can’t help to feel the refs won that game for the Lakers.
@B345T1N355Official

Every time the Lakers got a whistle, the Raptors actually fouled though. Did Quickley not push AD? Did Quickley not elbow Reddish in the face? Did Schroder not kick out towards DLo? Those were all correctly called fouls. The last minute or so the Raptors were intentionally fouling while the Lakers were giving up easy baskets for them. Watch the entire game before commenting this. You say you watched this game on League Pass as if this was the only Laker game you’ve watched this season. If you actually watched the entire game, you’d see that this was actually a properly called game considering the Raptors were actually fouling more. In most Lakers games, LeBron and AD get MUGGED at the rim and the refs never want to call it. It seems like the NBA knows when the Lakers play against these good teams like the Kings or Mavericks or Pelicans that if LeBron and AD attack the paint they shouldn’t give them the whistle because otherwise the other team will start fouling out. Please watch all the games before commenting this BS.
@oxiclean4972
@oxiclean4972 8 ай бұрын
@@B345T1N355Official I agree that a lot of the calls could have been fouls, but it felt like the Lakers got the benefit of the doubt every time, while Scottie would get pounded and not get any calls. Quickly did elbow Reddish in the face, and I wouldn’t have minded it being a common foul as it still would have been his 6th and take him out of the game. But the refs had to go above and beyond for the Lakers and give him a flagrant on an obvious basketball move. If you have done a eurostep at any point in your life your elbows are just going to move that way. I’m not saying the Lakers have shouldn’t have won this game, they are a better team than the Raptors overall, I just wish the refs let the players decide the game, because you can’t deny it felt like the refs favored the bigger market team, which has been a trend since 2000s now. Not trying to hate on the Lakers or anything like that since that’s probably your favorite team.

@@oxiclean4972 The reason why it was called a flagrant foul was because of the elbow to the head. Usually with contact to the head, if they’re on the floor for a long time they have to review it. Quickley did not have to hit Reddish in the head with his elbow, he could have went for the body to try and drive in. That’s why that was called a flagrant foul. Reddish had to leave the floor after that call and you can see his lip was busted from that contact. you couldn't bulldoze through people in real basketball ever. That's Lebron's legacy. Shaq started getting away with it and little by little lowering your shoulder and fouling the defender became a "skill", once Lebron began carrying the ball taking four steps through people. Shaq did it within the rules as his offensive range was pretty much limited to the restricted zone under the basket. When the league was paused during the pandemic I shuddered to think how I would pass time. I watched a lot of 90’s replays to scratch my NBA itch. When the league finally came back on I was immediately disinterested bcuz of how terrible the product was. It wasn’t the pandemic it was going back and watching the NBA’s golden era that helped me realize it. I believe a lot of fans realized this and began to tune out this era of basketball. In order to combat its ratings free fall the NBA has resorted to what is essentially rigging games in order to boost ratings and interest. They feel LeFlop needs to be in the mix for ratings to rebound. The problem is that he is such a polarizing player no one cares. It is what it is. Analytics have ruined the NBA in much the same way they did Baseball. They need to figure that out in order to fix their product. Rigging games is only going to drive fans away.

The 2 issues I have with your explanation is the play where LeBron James just drove in for a lay up with no resistance. This actually happens a lot. Angry Old Hoops points it out regularly but also adds that the defenders have to just move out of the way because if they don’t they get called for a foul. And no LeBron James doesn’t deserve more calls, he gets enough by being allowed to set moving screens which is hilarious that the game tying 3 was negated by one when I bet I can go through and point out probably 5 that the Lakers committed because they commit moving screens frequently in every game. Then add in the traveling and the consistent offensive fouls he commits that dont get called. He would foul out probably 70% of the games he plays if they actually called those fouls. And one other thing people ignore is when he shoves guys when they go up for rebounds. Just like Prince did on that layup. It looks small but when you go back and watch it slowed down he shoves him. LeBron James does that when he gets beat on rebounds and he does it A LOT. And no, the Lakers are not the only ones who get away with some of these things because the fundamentals are so bad in the league 90% of them commit traveling violations and shove dudes because they have horrible position to rebound and set moving screens. The Lakers and especially LeBron James just are the most egregious. Go watch AOH’s videos, whatever slack you give LeBron James will change. And if you go back far enough you will see he has been doing it for at least the last 7 years. So yes, it is rigged for them to win so they don’t start falling too far behind in the standings. Because they should be 3 games under .500 right now and sliding further into the trash.

There’s a big difference between one foul not called and having 19 free throws to 2 in the final quarter of a close game. Lakers were doing what the raptors were doing, but the refs only whistled the raptors. The league has a big officiating problem and they don’t care. It has been going on for most of LeBron’s career. They single-handedly gave him championships. I cannot wait for him to retire. Giannis is the same, but maybe a little more likable.

Thanks for talking about this Commissioner! I know you're a Piston fan and I grew up literally in the middle between Pistons and Raptors. The nonsense that is the referee's nepotism for "LARGE MARKET" teams has been allowed to continue has to be called out to put pressure on the league. **SIDE NOTE: Yes Detroit beat Toronto but Toronto literally had 8 players because of the trade. Keep repping brother!

i agree with everything you said about the foul discrepancy - I think Darko got it spot on in that the refs were looking to give 'star treatment' to the lakers and were not giving Scottie the same treatment even though he was doing the same thing... think I would disagree about the Lebron bulldozing not being a foul tho, because he is that strong tbh

The problem with the league is that it isn’t a sport anymore, it’s sports entertainment. The nba is no different than WWE, it wants narratives and story lines. The free throw differential always favor the team with Lebron on it. How could they win this mid season tournament and then immediately go on a losing streak? The same way they went on a winning streak to get into the playoffs in tournament. The Warriors went on a weird losing streak and ended up having to play the Lakers. It’s amazing how things like that always just seems to happen. Or else the league is rigged. ( It’s rigged to make money of this fake ass goat narrative )

Bro, the NBA is not a sporting league....it's an entertainment league. A considerable number of NBA games are rigged. The NBA does not want any lebron team to have prolonged losing streaks, which was why the Lakers/Clippers game on Sunday night was just as shady with the officiating, allowing the Lakers to snap their 4-game losing streak. Also, the refs role in tipping the scales to allow lebron's teams to have an easier path to victory is done subtly. The refs call questionable early fouls on the opposing teams best players, thus making those opposing foul-ridden players apprehensive to drive to the basket, set screens on offense, and play tough defense. And with inhibiting those opposing players due to the subtle rigging by the refs on behalf of lebron's teams, lebron's teams are thus gifted a higher probability of pulling off victories. But here's the shocking thing also --- many players throughout the league and many in the coaching staffs league-wide, also play an active purposeful role in the rigging. It is my belief that there's a high likelihood that a considerable portion (or ALL) of the players and coaching staff (and referees) in the league are in on it, and have signed strictly worded Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) in which they would incur severe financial penalties for publicly or privately disclosing the active rigging that is policy within the NBA. Again...the NBA is primarily an ENTERTAINMENT league, not a pure sports league. The NBA makes its money from TV rights ($2.5 Billion per year) and merchandising etc for a total annual revenue of over $10.58 Billion per year. But the TV rights portion of the NBA's revenue also depends on the NBA putting forth a product that brings in TV ratings for Disney (ABC/ESPN etc). But ratings have been abysmal for years. So the rigging today has been even more ramped up vs the rigging of years ago in the NBA. Remember, the current $24 Billion 10-year TV rights deal signed in 2014, expires in 2025...and a new deal has to be negotiated. The new TV rights (broadcasting rights) deal with whoever (Disney companies? NBC? Fox? CW? etc) will all depend on ratings, and do the ratings justify the amount paid to secure the broadcasting rights. And the NBA believes that having lebron constantly in the playoffs mix increases the odds of higher TV ratings. They need the ratings to secure an even more lucrative new Broadcasting Rights deal in the region of $50 Billion to $75 Billion over the next 10 years. I'll leave it right there.

But the Nuggets beat them 4-0 in the playoffs, the Nuggets were not in on it then, as I doubt the league would script lebron losing 4-0 to Denver. Jokić and Murray did not play those games as if they were scripted, they played as hard as they could

@@student99bg- Those were not close games, though. In clear blow-outs, there's not much that refs can really affect, especially after certain point differentials. Btw, I never said that the NBA rigs the games to give lebron's teams 100% wins...otherwise, his teams would go 82-0 for an entire season, and 16-0 for every post season. No....the point I was making is that the NBA rigs the games (or rather SOME of the games) to help keep certain teams or certain players in positions of maintaining relevancy and having fan respect. With regards to the Lakers/Clippers game and the Lakers/Toronto game this past week, the NBA probably did not want to see the Lakers go onto a 5-game, and then a 6-game losing streak, on the road to becoming irrelevant.

They lost their challenge on another call earlier in the game. A pretty marginal 'hand on the body' call when someone went up under the rim.
