A few thoughts: StewMac sells a fret saw with an adjustable depth stop, eliminates the need for the glue/dust filling after the frets are in. I cut a 1/2" piece of fretwire, file the nubs off one side of the tang and lay it against the sawblade to set the depth stop. Practice on a piece of hardwood first to make sure it's set correctly. My '59 Tele has a top-loader bridge and factory ferrules on the back (!) One time I strung it up using the top-loader and played it that way for 2 minutes before I cut the strings off and loaded it from the back. The tone was horribly different. I wouldn't advise drilling holes in your guitar, but if it was mine I wouldn't hesitate for a second if I was sure it would be my 'forever' guitar. When I got mine in '82 somebody had routed the body for a Tele bridge pickup in the neck position but removed it and put the original back in. I've often wondered what it sounded like. I've never seen it done before or since.
@latheofheaven10173 жыл бұрын
I've wondered why people can't mod the too-dark sound on that switch position, and it turns out they can. And it sounds great. I also love that super-bright bridge position sound. Slices your head off, but in a good way!
@levigarrett79313 жыл бұрын
Ridiculously cool guitar! Here is a tip you could try for removing frets sideways. Take a dremel tool with a small engraving bit and cut a tiny notch down into the fret near the end. This gives you a tiny ledge for your punch to "grip" or bite onto while knocking the fret out. Much less chance of your punch sliding off the top of the fret and puncturing the board. I always light up when I see a new Matthew Scott video. Keep it up, man! Thanks for the awesome content!

No truss rod?
@anthonyc18833 жыл бұрын
@@lllULTIMATEMASTERlll There's a truss rod. It was installed into the maple neck prior to the rosewood fretboard being glued on. Hence, no skunk stripe on the back of the neck or telltale walnut plug above the nut. Important to note there were variations over the years, but for the vast, vast majority of pre-CBS Fenders with rosewood fretboards, that's how it was done.

I also would be very interested to know. It sounded almost like Hendrix's tone on Wind Cries Mary, very strat like. Seriously, Leo Fender smashed it with that circuit, so many tones from one pickup.

I think that the capacitor in the dark circuit was changed sometime in the late 50's to let a little more treble through. Don't recall the values off hand.
