A Mega Rare Occurrence Happened Today When 375908 + 375706 + 375912 Working 2W93 07:02 Folkestone Central - Cannon Street Had Lost Their Shoegear On The Left Hand Side When Passing Sevington, They Eventually Got To Sevenoaks Where The 3rd Rail Was On The Same Side As The Missing Shoegear. Then 375828 + 375310 + 375707 Came To The Rescue And Eventually Managed To Get Moving They Were Sent To Tonbridge Where They Are Seen In This Video Working 5W93 Sevenoaks - Tonbridge ECS Where This Amazing 23 Car Train Is Seen.

Hmm, interesting. So the question is, why did they have to bring down another set of Electrostars to rescue the broken down one instead of dragging it with a loco? It's funny that this set of 375s are actually longer than a eurostar xD

With a loco it would have taken longer to get the train out of the way because the use of an adapter coupler would mean it could only travel at a maximum of 5mph. With units, they can travel at linespeed but going back to using the 11 car 375 to rescue, the 11 car was out of service and would have been sat in a depot all day so it was used instead of taking a passenger train out of service to rescue it

In theory yes, but there is no way that would travel at line speed. The line current index wouldn't permit the motors on the whole train to be working. It would trip the breakers in the sub station. Chances are that there are only 9 motors cut in on the entire formation (equivalent to a 12 car as there are 3 motors per 4 car unit) Furthermore the MITRAC on class 375 can only accommodate a 12 car train, so the rear of the train would have been coupled mechanically but not electronically so basically was being dragged. Great video though and yes mega rare. I have been driving the class 375 for 5 years and worked on the railway for 10 and the longest i have ever seen is a 16 car

The MITRAC system was fooled into believing it was a 12 car train and the broken units (ones leading into sidings) were isolated with shoes in the raised position thus leaving the rear 3 units to provide all the power and I believe it managed to gain linespeed as well and I also believe it was all coupled up normally (electrical + mechanical)

Signalling will just work normally. Although it's a longer train, it just means that if it enters a particularly short signal section, the train will cause a few danger aspect signals in its wake. If the train assisted from the front and resulted in it having to start in advance of a danger signal, the driver would request permission from the controlling signaller to pass the signal at danger on the basis of starting ahead of signal (reversing). Once passed, the driver obeys all further aspects

Not correct im afraid - That train is 470M long which is 23 chains, The centre of Waterloo East Platform to the buffer stops at Charing Cross is 61 chains. If you add an extra 18 coaches (half the WE platform and the whole of the Charing Cross Platforms) that is another 18 and a quarter chains making a total of just over 41 chains. It needs to be 20 chains longer which works out at another 20 coaches just to get each end touching the platforms

I can only find on the internet that the 357's put out 2000 HP, but i know MU's share power amongst the cars unlike a traditional locomotive with one or multiple engines or power cars at one end. How much power would this thing have put out? I mean, with that many cars it had to have had the power to pull a heavy freight train if the couplers are compatible.

Matt Brine There are five Class 375 units putting out 2,000 HP each and one shorter Class 375/3 unit in the consist closer to 1,300 HP. This comes out to 11,300 HP, roughly on par with a Eurostar set, though I doubt it could haul heavy freight if only because of the lack of tractive effort.

Matt Brine At the time only the rear 11 coaches of the train were taking power directly, the leading 12 coaches with the missing shoe gear were isolated so to confuse the computer to thinking it was a 11 car train.

Where I come from, only a few GE Evolutions (each putting out 4000 HP) can pull a long consist of tankers, containers, box cars, triple-decker car haulers, and flat beds. Most of the time I only see 1 GEVO pulling a train, sometimes even just a 3000 HP SD 40-2 (by Canadian National or CP rail)

HOBC cannot be classed as coaches muppet. HOBC+ And I quote: "Ballast cleaning system consists of an RM 900 RT ballast cleaning machine with supply of new ballast, two power wagons as traction vehicles and 44 material conveyor and hopper units, 36 of which are MFS-D for through-loading and the remaining 8 are MFS-SB with slewing unloading conveyor belt." So really doesn't give passengers an easy ride with that consist :-)
